If someone here or someone you know has a sine wave generator, could you please record a frequency of 19Hz for me? Thats a D#/Eb, just octaves lower than standard.

You might be able to do it yourself by downloading a free tone generator program. I know there are some out there.

19Hz is well below the range of most speakers, and just below the range of human hearing. You won't be able to hear it.

Wont be able to hear it with your ears, no. But 17-19Hz is the range of most organs' operations - you'd be able to feel it. It's sort of a subliminal thing. Makes you feel nauseous and sad and anxious and your eyes twitch subtley which causes slight hallucinations (see the case of the man who discovered this and the 'ghost' he thought he saw when it was in fact his office's A/C unit creating this frequency and making him hallucinate))). I'm just wanting to experiment what value it could have when layering it over some experimental ambient stuff.

Most speakers won't reproduce that frequency at all. Most speakers, even high end monitors, roll off pretty severely around 50-60Hz, and few subwoofers go below 30Hz.

Reaper includes a sine wave synth that can respond to MIDI notes or frequency pitch.

I have audacity :| I have never seen any 'sine wave' generator.

I was thinking that might be the case...so you're saying that it won't even be recognized, regardless that you'll not be able to hear it?

Kind of. Speakers just aren't designed to make noise at that low of a frequency. You might hear/feel it it if you had a really tricked out speaker system with some ridiculous subs, but otherwise I think it'd be a lost effort.

That said, I could be totally wrong, and you might have a great idea on your hands.

I think mattp is right though. All of the experiments into this sort of thing have used ludicrous equipment, like giant sub speakers set in concrete tubes many metres long for amplification, or (the one you mentioned) massive air-con fans in small box rooms, where the listener is effectively standing inside the amplifier itself.

The theory behind the idea appears to be sound (pun intended), but I think you need a lot of technical resources at your disposal to recreate the effects.
