Children of Bodom have received world wide recognition & fame. But do you guys really like CoB or is it just utter crap. With gayness of Alexi lurking in every song he has or the somewhat better keys which seem to be leading no where, is it really as good or is it just the same old death metal crap shit?

I like their material, Hatrbreeder and Something Wild are classics but some of their stuff like Blooddrunk isn't so wonderful.

Hatebreeder and Follow the Reaper are good, Something Wild is decent but underdeveloped and everything else is either mediocre or total shit.

I really like them. Alexi is badass

Hatebreeder is one of my favorite albums, so fucking crazy. Something Wild has pretty good tunes, but it gets boring at times, and I don't really dig Follow the Reaper as much. The rest is just bad though.

Hatebreeder is their magnum opus, and that was released almost a decade ago. The chances of Children of Bodom releasing something to that equivalency or even close is bordering never.

Blooddrunk was actually really cool but i hate AYDY. Never heard any of the other albums.

They are very talented as musicians even if I only like the first two albums...after that formula became a bit abused...

Blooddrunk is a shallow, baseless self-plagiarism of their old style, you'll probably like the first three better.

I've only heard Follow the Reaper, but I really enjoy it and their style. I mean to keep checking out Hatebreeder, but I keep putting it off.

But the thing that drives me mad is the way Alexi acts during the concerts...he's irritating because he believes to be a star and he's terribly annoying with all those "fuck" inserts in the sentences to the crowd.

From what I've been told, Alexi's normally too pissed to play properly. That's probably why.

Alcohol is no excuse. Alexi is just a terrible guitar player. Look at say Brian Robertson or 'Fast' Eddie Clarke, they both used to drink a lot before concerts and played great (they were also both in Motorhead, funny that). Alexi just isn't a good songwriter/musician but I suppose his application of make up is passable.

In my honest opinion, COB are one of the lamest, most overrated, most boring metal bands I have ever had the displeasure of hearing. Alexi is always hailed as being a guitar 'master' by COB fans but in reality he is decent at best. The only notable musician in the band IMO is the keyboardist. The other reason why I don't like them is simply because of their annoying fanbase which is riddled with posers, scene kids, ultra- fanboys, and people that really aren't metal heads in any way, shape, or form.

I used to be really into this band, but then I saw them live. Hatebreeder is still fun for a spin every now and then.

I have two of their albums: Hatebreeder and Hate Crew Deathroll. I listen to them quite a bit but I don't have any desire to pick anything else up by them.

First 3: Pretty good
4th: OK
5th & 6th: Pretty gay

Ehh. I liked them when I first got into metal..(but I also like Avenged Sevenfold and Atreyu)..Now their just kinda crap. The old albums like Hatebreeder and Follow The Reaper were okay. But the latest, Blooddrunk, is garbage.

I still listen to Something Wild and Hatebreeder.

Everything after Hatebreeder was boring.

How does that make you like it less? What does it matter that people that don't primarily listen to metal like a metal band, I would consider that a good thing.

I used to listen to Children of Bodom a lot but I've lost interest in them mostly, I still like the Hatebreeder album though. Bloodrunk is terrible

Everything up to and including Hate Crew Death Roll was great. The remaining material is lackluster. I still listen to it, but it definitely doesn't get as many plays as the vintage stuff.

I enjoyed Something Wild when it was released, but my interest faded quite quickly and i never understood the praise the band got after that. Garbage.

I think they're pretty good. The early stuff up to Hate Crew Deathroll was excellent. After reading so many negative reviews toward Are You Dead Yet and Bloodrunk, I avoided those releases like the plague. But then I finally listened to them and thought they weren't bad at all! So now I take reviews with a grain of salt unless the average score is around 20%.

I know an Alex Martin who is not you. That Alex would be able to recognize just how bad Blooddrunk is.

Follow The Reaper is really the only CoB album I can stand at all. Everything else is just boring. Even FtR has lame moments. I don't understand the mass appeal of this band.

Alexi fits right in with the gender bending Japanese J-rock crowd.

Old albums as well as new are boring. Couldn't get into them.

I used to be a fan and I still listen to some of their stuff sometimes but it just doesn't feel the same as it did a few years ago. First 3 albums are decent, albeit full of cheese. Hatecrew Deathroll or whatever is mediocre at best and the most recent two are mallcore garbage which should have been the death of this band but instead it sky rocketed them to fame with the 'kiddies'. They have some of the worst lyrics I have ever seen. And their musicianship is overrated. Alexi isn't an interesting guitarist and he is sloppy live, his vocals are shockingly bad 90% of the time, and he writes pretty much every single song. I mean the keyboardist is decent but he doesn't write a single thing!

The only thing I can really commend this band for is that they were one of the first bands that got me into music with harsher vocals.

They've had their share of okay songs every now and then (Mask of Sanity, Angel's Don't Kill), but the vast majority of their material ranges from mediocre to outright bad. It doesn't help that a lot of it sounds the same, either.

I stopped caring about them when AYDY came out. Their older stuff was far better than the shit they push out to the scenesters nowadays.

I enjoyed up through HCDR but haven't given them a chance since.

Used to really enjoy them a few years ago. However, nowadays I've gone off them significantly. Good musicians technically, but they were always so one-dimensional and irritating; there just doesn't seem to be any substance to the music.

CoB have and always will be a gateway band into more technical and aggressive music. I love the posers who mistake them for "heavy" and "brutal." It's only a matter of time before they learn...
Also, Alexi's guitar-playing ability is extremely overrated, and the lyrics are incredibly childish. They're almost as bad as Norther. "Youth Gone Wild"... Pathetic.

This about sums it up for me as well. Hatebreeder and Follow the Reaper were both really good, then it started getting worse. By the time they got to AYDY, it was pretty much unlistenable. Hatecrew's not bad.
