Here are all of the "help threads". Only ask for recommendations in these threads unless you are absolutely positive that your request complies with all of the guidelines demonstrated in this thread. Have fun.

Heavy/Power/Speed metal

Thrash metal

Death metal

Black metal (buggy old thread)

Black metal (current thread)

Doom/Stoner metal

Folk/Viking metal

Progressive metal

Gothic Metal

Technical Metal/Shred

Metalcore/Deathcore

Grindcore

Additionally, while not a recommendation-centered thread per se, the following thread is basically a "help" center for identifying unknown songs:

Song ID thread

PS. If any of these become locked due to inactivity, just post in here and it will be unlocked. Also, yes we are aware of the "page not found" error. Nothing to do about it, sorry.

I think these topics might also help. Granted, it's just the survey results for the top [genre] albums, but they at least show the general consensus on what the best metal albums are:
Death metal:
http://metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=31207

Thrash metal:
http://metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=31932

Doom metal:
http://metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=31717

Black metal:
http://metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=31383

Power metal:
http://metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=32135

Grindcore (though the number of votes in this survey are quite low):
http://metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=44616

Folk metal:
http://metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=45222

Heavy metal:

Perhaps the Authors of each of the Help Threads should link to the relevent Dodo-list in the OP.

There is also a Gothic Metal help thread that was probably locked due to inactivity: http://www.metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=39360. If you wouldn't mind adding that to the list, rexxz, or possibly combining it with the Stoner/Doom thread...?

The Grindcore survey votes are low but the results accurately reflect the best grind available in the archives. And the "only received one vote" section contains some jems.

So there are only nine recognized help threads. I guess the groove metal and Avant-Garde metal ones didn't get their own. I am disappinted to see that grindcore got consolidated with metalcore and deathcore. I always thought it should have had its own help thread listed as Grindcore/Goregrind. Certainly there are enough of a multitude and diversity of those bands to warrant it. And they have their own scene too.

Not really necessary. Avant-Garde is not a real genre, groove metal can go in the heavy/power/speed metal thread and grindcore is with the rest of the -core metal derivatives.

Hopefully with this new Help Thread sticky, the "looking for.." threads by alot of newbies will be cut back. At least a little bit.

Can you also add the song ID thread to the list as well, rexxz? I think this one qualifies as a metal help thread too. Here it is: http://www.metal-archives.com/board/vie ... hp?t=44082

Go to the second-last page, and your posts will be there. It's a bug in the system, and it has happened to numerous threads where an extra page has been tagged on the end.

Can we make the new industrial metal thread the help thread for this sub genre? People are starting to ask for recommendations.

I second this; it can be great for bands based in the electronic / industrial / noise / drone and even avant-garde spectrum of metal who don't seem to fit anywhere else in the other help threads.

Most of those industrial bands-if they are metal-can fall under whatever sub genre of metal they are attached to. Otherwise just start a forum for it in the Tavern.

Not really; a lot of them don't fall under a subgenre of metal. Most have a distinct industrial-based sound. Godflesh for example doesn't fall under a metal subgenre other than industrial metal. Same goes for countless other bands that many fans want to learn more about.

Mortiis would be a good example of this then.

Don't know if that was sarcasm or not but more and more I've been discovering many bands that fit only a specific mold that fit's into industrial metal. Other bands would be O.L.D., Sin (US), Spine Wrench, Pitchshifter (early days), and many others... and many fans on the MA are looking for these sorts of bands.

Some links to surveys' results seem to be not working... For example, Doom and Power Metal. I've tried to type the thread name on Google but it sends me to Heavy or Folk Metal lists...

Doom Metal = Link.

Black Metal = Link.

Power Metal = Link.

Heavy Metal = Link.

Death Metal = Link.

Folk Metal = Link.

Grindcore = Link.

I also would like an industrial/electronic metal request section here!
You guys have a section for them in your "Browse Bands By Genre" portion of the site, they deserve a spot here.
Also, there's alot of bands that are industrial or electronic based with other influences. For instance, T3CHN0PH0B1A, Samael, The Kovenant, Skrew, Sybreed ect. as well as many bands that are straight up industrial/Electronic metal.

common error when threads get long (though I havent noticed a distinct number of posts in a thread that causes this) - you are not actually missing anything, it just calculates the number of pages incorrectly

Hey guys got a really quick question...I cannot figure out how to reference certain pages, i.e. a particular band, or the reviews to a particular album, when I am sending the link to a friend. It only comes up as www.metal-archives.com/ with nothing after that. How can I find the specific page, because it doesn't show up on my website bar thingy (not quite sure of the technical term, except that what I called it is definitely wrong) :P

Please let me know that would be great. :D

When selecting the link to the band page or review (for example, from the search results list or from a writer's profile), open it in a new browser tab and copy/paste the URL from there.

The black metal help thread is a little strange: there's a Page 106 but there's nothing on it and it says "No posts exist for this page". Any solution?
