Hello there. I was brought into metal liking pantera and metallica a couple years ago and my tastes have evolved since then. I went through my stage of loving job for a buttcowboy and as period blood runs black. i look back on it in disgust but it was well worth it because thats how i became aquainted with real death metal bands. But i could still use some help finding great new ones. As you already read i pretty much DESPISE all deathcore bands with the exception of Glass Casket, Despised Icon(pun hehe), and Bring me the horizon...just kidding about that last one, they, bring me the whorizon inhale black cock into their british asses. And while i highly respect them, i dont like morbid angel, suffocation(only heard their newest album) or Cannibal Coprse. Here are a list of D-metal bands im into and why:

Amon Amarth- Super heavy melodic viking metal. nuff said.

Beneath The Massacre-Super fast brutal death with some good breakdowns.

Death- Chuck(RIP) had an impeccable style and they were so constantly evolving.

Decapitated- Groovy ass tech death.

Decrepit Birth- I like their new shit because it "mixes melody and brutality"

The Faceless- They have amazing melody buried under dissonant heavinesss.

Misery Index- Probably my favorite death metal band. Heavy as fuck, memorable riffs, and variety on every song.

Necrophagist- Fuck tha haters. Neo-classical tech death at its best.

Nile- Nobody sounds like these egyptian loving cocksuckers.

Pig Destroyer- Death/Grind ear rape

Sepultura- Arise is all ive hear. Basically the precursors of Decapitated.

Anyways enough of my rambling, if anyone could recommend me some solid death metal bands based on these i would surely listen to them. thanks for your time.

You should use the Death Metal help thread:

http://www.metal-archives.com/board/vie ... hp?t=44687

As for a personal suggestion, you might want to try out Hypocrisy (swe). Their first two albums are pure old-school death metal with a dark atmosphere while their subsequent albums evolved into a more atmospheric and melodic direction before returning to a more death metal stance on their lastest album, Virus.

This should have been posted in the Death Metal help thread.

Though as a suggestion I would check out Pestilence, Iniquity, and Morgoth. Pestilence reminds me a lot of Death in their evolution though they took it a step further into the cosmic realms that Death explored on the last two tracks on Human - Cosmic Sea and Vacant Planets. Iniquity's Serenadium and Grime albums are two of the catchiest slabs of destruction ever recorded - listen to Son of Cosmos and tell me that riff isn't stuck in your head forever. Morgoth is just plain fucking weird and unique.

Whoukr is an interesting concotion of breakbeat and death metal. It's very weird actually. You can't really even say it's death metal. The band has been compared with an electronic genre called breakcore due to the use of breakbeats. However, just give it a listen, very interesting.

If you can expand upon more of what you're looking for, surely. Read this thread, especially the very top sentences (and follow the other link in that top part, too).

Devourment. The fathers and the undisputed kings of Slam Death. Listen to Molesting The Decapitated. It gives Effigy of the Forgotten and None So Vile a run for its money.

Also, Incantation and Obituary are too good death metal bands with some doom influences.

Hackneyed has a fairly unique sound. Their debut was the perfect combo of brutality and melody.

- Bolt Thrower, doesn't get more unique than that.
- Violation (Ger), super heavy, brutal, and memorable
- Book of Black Earth, especially Horoskopus.

The bands in the first post are not unique at all compared to these two (except maybe for Death):
The Monolith Deathcult
Lykathea Aflame
