Well, if Mayhem had continued with the Deathcrush sound, then I would've prefered them, but Burzum is more consistent.

I like both bands, but if I had to pick, life or death, I gotta go with Burzum.

No, Cryptopsy and Fairyland are two completely different bands; Mayhem and Burzum are both prominent, second-wave Black Metal.

I'll agree with what's said above. Mayhem's Deathcrush is superior, while Burzum decimates their subsequent material, DMDS included.

Only like the early Mayhem releases, lost interest after DMDS (by far their best work and a classic at that), so Burzum wins for me, the first four albums were ground breaking releases that influenced so many but never bettered, the moods, atmosphere that he created on these releases started a whole new genre imo.

A genre that sucks.

EDIT: I am referring to Depressive Black Metal, of course.

Pound for pound, I would go with Mayhem. But Burzum's debut LP along with Aske slights it. They're both essential black metal make no mistake.

Mayhem and Burzum may belong to the same genre but they sound completely different, hence they are completely different bands.

This is a stupid topic.
