Vio-Lence's Eternal Nightmare singer Sean Killian. I will never understand why most Bay Area thrash metal has excruciatingly high vocals. The riffs make up for the irritating singing though.

I can't stand the vocals on Mayhem's "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas"

I cannot understand how so many people love this album.

You might like "Out From the Dark", it's basically the best songs from Deathcrush and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas re-recorded with Morbid vocalist / De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas lyricist Per Yngve Ohlin (Dead; Yes, he is dead but his nickname was Dead). It has 5 times shittier production but it's worth checking out in my opinion.

I saw some clips of Mastodon live on youtube, and the guitarist sounded terrible. It's as if he saw some emo/hardcore band singing and thought "OK, how can I make this sound worse?"

Thanks god the Bass player also sings.

I used to hate Nile's and Vio-Lence's vocals, but now I find them one of the best vocals I have ever heard.

I loathe Hetfield's vocals.

Phil Anselmo - the main reason I'm not a major Pantera fan.

I admit I'd enjoy Death more if Chuck had a less gruff type of vocal, I'd prefer it deeper and more grunt-like.

And of course that cunt from Bullet for my Valentine.

I personally like it because of the guitars....

But I'll agree with your opinion of the vocals

I can't believe I forgot the king of vocal grossness (in the bad sense of the word) and suckability: fucking Axl Rose. I'll end the post now, to prevent the writing of countless pages defining in a clearer way how much he fucking sucks.

Hetfield - whatever Bob Rock told you, you can't sing. Stop it.
Araya - monotonous high-pitched screaming doesn't suit Slayer anymore.
Barnes and Iacono when they do shrieking-screaming.
With very few exceptions, all clean vocals in metal. Nothing worse than a heavy tune and some dude ruining it by pretending he can sing.
When all band members join in a singing-chorus.

I find King Diamond's falsetto downright laughable. Some of the funniest vocals I have ever heard in metal.

Aye, a worthy mention. I have a song of theirs (Ninja Gangbang, I think) in the Comedy section of my music collection. The song is musically acceptable, albeit lacklustre. Jig-Ai's comedic value lies in their ridiculous vocals. Their 'pig squeals' are remarkably true to life. When I listen to their music, I cannot help but imagine a muddy pen full of disoriented, agitated and possibly sexually frustrated pigs constituting what could be described as a frenzied mosh pit of confused hog flesh.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't stand mr. Vikernes aka. Count Grishnack's growling, it's abselutely dreadful.
Also I think Attila Csihar made a less than pleasing performance on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Even Maniac could do a better vocal performance than that.
I would also like to say that Cannibal Corpse got much better after Corpsegrinder came to base.

The clean vocals on Darkwoods My Betrothed - Autumn Roars Thunder. Try When Ancient Spirits Battled for a sample - not that the rest of the album is at all noteworthy.

The singer from Sentanced. People tell me he is good but the accent is so bad it literally hurts my ears. The music is better but that singing, uuhh.

He and other Finnish rally drivers like Pasi Koskinen. The latter actually sings in tune all the time, though. I mean, bad pronunciation isn't the only thing that makes Ville Laihiala's vocals rather cringesome at times. :D

I don't like pig or frog style death metal vocals. They sound simply shite, not extreme. I've sold many, many albums thanks to those animal sounds!
And one more thing: Growl shouldn't be used on a Iron Maiden cover song!!! NEVER!!! What's the f**king point?!?! :grr:

What makes me cringe is really forced, closed-throat vocals. Arch Enemy, Devin Townsend, Glen Benton. Almost all grindcore except Napalm Death. Death metal vocals can sound natural and open, which is probably why I like the old school more.

Agreed. SO much of nowadays death metal is total rendered unlistenable/redundant to me because of the vocal style. I can listen to Benton though.

All vocals used in porno-grind, gore-grind or whatever the fuck you wan't to call it. Listening to bands like Rompeprop or Last Day of Humanity seems to trigger something off in my body which makes me want to vomit :puke:

A lot of power metal vocals make me cringe. More specifically, those multi-voice harmonized choruses. Yuck. Not really metal, but Geddy Lee's vocals make me cringe. I can't stand them. I've also heard a few instances of decent death metal being ruined by hardcore vocals, but the names of the specific bands slip my mind at the moment.

Halford's performance on Painkiller is just... :ugh:

He's an amazing singer, I just don't like his voice, especially in the title track.

It's funny that you say that, because that's probably my favorite Judas Priest album in terms of Halford's vocals.... to each his own I guess....

Apparently he was having bad throat problems during that whole tour, so he could barely even do what he did there.

I agree with all those who dislike King Diamond's vocals. I know Mercyful Fate and King Diamond are great and influential, but I just can't get into them because of the vocals.

This. I don't think he sounds like a tortured cat though, but a lot of modern bands use that same annoying, emotionless and strained sounding vocal style.

I just discovered this one black metal band, Inquisition. The music is great, but the vocalist sounds like abbath 5 times the annoyance. I don't hate the way abbath sounds, but this dude is taking it too far. Sounds like a frog mumbling something out of his sleep.

I've got a few vocalists that i think are particularly pretty awful. I really think Akerdfelt's growls are pretty weak. I never really liked Opeth to begin with, but even on Katatonia's Brave Murder Day I really disliked the vocals, and I loved their debut. I also think Lord Worm is really terrible, as well as the guy who filled in for Whisper Supremacy, Disalvo i think. Disalvo obviously didn't belong in the death metal genre to begin with, but Worm just can't get it done to my ears. I've always HATED Cryptopsy though, even their early stuff.

I personally disagree on Mikael Åkerfeldt and Lord Worm (especially Mikael Åkerfeldt, I think his growls are some of the best - least week)...

I'll definately agree on Mike DiSalvo though. His vocals are, well, I can't even think of a good way to describe them really, other than not liked by me....
