Well, according to Wikipedia: "The tripod fish is a relatively sedentary fish. It spends much of its adult life standing on the ocean bottom on its fins. The fish stands facing the prevailing current, and hunts by extending its unusually long pectoral fins into the current and waiting for the small crustaceans on which it feeds to simply bump into its fins. The fish grasps its prey in the pectoral fins and directs it toward its mouth."

Lionfish are actually really good, but the spines are really poisonous. I saw a couple swimming in the Galapagos right after I had eaten one, I was worried about Karma.

Lionfish are awesome because they're so awesome looking partially, but mostly because they're just incredibly laid back. They float about in small groups for the most part, and just... observe. If The Dude were a fish, he'd be a lionfish.

I was on a dive one time, and my friend was leading the dive and we were coming up from a cave where there was only one entrance/exit, and on our way out a group of lionfish had congregated around the top of the shaft. My friend went up alone and using his head, nudged them out of the way. They didn't care one jot! Haha.

Quote:
Photographs of this strange and ferocious looking creature have been circulating via email and online since mid 2006. The images have generated a lot of discussion. Given that our oceans do indeed harbour some strange and wonderful denizens, many have postulated that the creature might be a deep-sea fish hitherto unknown to science.

In fact, the "creature" is a sculpture by Tampa Bay artist Juan Cabana. Mr Cabana has created an entire menagerie of mermaids, sea monsters and aliens, some of which he offers for sale on eBay under the name "seamystery". This particular "Sea Monster" was the subject of an eBay auction in June 2006. The same photographs that are now circulating were included in the eBay description of the item.

 I guess some of this stuff can be faked. I would have believed it. :durr:

That is actually the decomposed carcass of a sperm whale, a fact confirmed by anatomical and DNA tests. Sources: http://www.tierramerica.net/2003/0714/iacentos.shtml, http://www.geocities.com/capedrevenger/dubiousglobsters.html

I love your description though. There is already a known species called the Giant Octopus, and there has long been speculation about the existence of a so-called Gigantic Octopus. I think that Giant Fucking Octopus would logically be the next step.

Does anybody else see a huge comparison to these things and those weird things that gave Freddy Krueger his dream power thing???

If you remember the scene in one of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies where Freddy is in the cellar and the angry parents are outside, then one of the parents throw a fire in his cellar, don't those fish look extremely similar to those weird floating things that came around Freddy?

The way it's walking along hugging that other chimp would be sweet, were it not for the knowledge that chimps are fucking savage bastards.
