I'm not sure why the "most underrated band in metal" thread got locked, but I wanted to point out that Nitro should be on the top of the list of those bands.

Look at what they've done:

-They've molded thrash metal together with hair metal...how cool is that?
-Their guitarist won shredder of the year
-They were one of the first bands to play blast beats
-A second point should be made to emphasize just how incredible their guitarist is (possibly the best ever)
-Their singer shattered wine glasses when they performed in front of an audience
-Their singer can sing TWO notes at the same time.
-To this day he holds the record for holding the longest scream in metal history, tied with Eric Adams of Manowar (31 seconds)
-The drummer...'nuff said.

In my eyes their album O.F.R. is an underground cult smash, yet it has gotten poor reviews among the few hundred people who have even heard of it.

No way.

And I'm not convinced that that singer's voice wasn't electronically assisted in some way.

How can they be one of the first bands to play blast beats when they formed in 1987 and didn't release anything until 1989?

Yeah, lol. Not to mention the vocals just sound downright hilarious to me (coming from a shriek fanatic), I can't take them seriously at all.

Is it even possible to sing multiple notes at once without recorded layering? Just asking, as I really don't know. I've tried (and failed) before.

Also, Nitro may very well be a good band, albeit one I haven't listened to. However, such claims as them having the greatest guitarist could be made for quite a lot of musicians; Malmsteen, for example.

The thread the OP mentioned was locked for a reason. It's probably not a good idea to create a new thread in order to continue it.

You know who Michael Angelo Batio is? Even though I can't stand Nitro, I have to respect that guys skills. No one has the sure technical ability he has.

No, I was just speaking generally. Sure, it seems he's very skilled, but then so is Azagthoth and quite a lot of guitarists. Anyway, I don't care who the best musician is. If it fits well in the music and the music is good, I'm satisfied.

Actually it is, there's a technique called throat singing that allows this, although it isn't exactly what you'd think of when you hear someone say "he can sing two notes at the same time!"

This. Unless you find a way to make your throat resonate in a way that produces a harmonic overtone like the throat singers, there's really no possible way to sing two notes at once. I have always steered clear of this band because everything about them just screams awful 80's cliche, but I'm 99.9% certain their singer cannot sing two notes simultaneously, especially with lyrics.

lol 1666, time for some Necronemesis

Only on metal archives would there be a serious thread about this band. Me and a few friends have had many laughs over this band. So terrible that its just downright hilarious. I mean seriously, fucking Nitro.

At least ten witty replies are circling in my head right now, but I can't decide so I'll just say that Nitro sucks and they were NOT blastbeat pioneers.

The fact that the drummer was mentioned as doing something revolutionary is also hilarious due to the fact that he's a terrible drummer. My friend is a pretty good drummer and he was just like dude, this guy is awful.

You've got to be fucking shitting me. Other than Sick Animation, those are the most ridiculous lyrics I've ever seen.

By the way, Sick Animation's songs are... interesting.

Bullshit. That's impossible.

You know when I saw the name "Ntiro" I could've sworn it was some obscure Ukrainian NSBM band. It just sounds a name for an NSBM band.

I think the Beastie Boys were one of the first non-jazz bands to do it. No joke. 1982 if I remember correctly. The album was called Pollywog Stew I think.

Also, if you inhale you can sing two notes at once. HIGHLY doubt he did that, but you can.

At first I thought he was joking. Either that or horrendously incorrect. After some research I found he is very much so correct. :| It appears that my idea of a blast-beat differs from the truth. So, now I'm a little confused with what, exactly, a blast-beat is? I always associated them predominately with death metal and grindcore (and other forms of extreme metal). Although, now I'm reading that they do date back to the 60s and were used mostly in jazz. Can someone give me a clear explanation, keeping in mind that I have next to no drum knowledge?

As for Nitro, never heard there music. I seen there MA page and have since then avoided them like the plague. They seem to scream 80s cliche more so than two notes at once.

No it's not impossible, Harmonic chanting is a technique that holds one note while another moves in a melodic pattern. It freaked me when I heard it done. (I don't really know if that's what it's called, but the guy that showed me called it harmonic chanting. I doubt the Nitro guy is harmonic chanting though.

I love Nitro. They're freaking crazy! If you could combine Nitro's speed and shredding with Motley Crue's riffs you'd have serious ownage.

[Edit] AND THEY COULD BE REFORMING! SICK!

I wouldn't associate that with jazz. However, I think I understand. Most bands in the heavier side of things, play blast-beats really fast. If they were used in jazz, they were the same thing, just played slower. Someone correct me if I'm wrong with that.
