Im going right now with sure beta 58, is there any best mic out there for this?

The Shure SM7b is used alot.

It requires a preamp with a little more gain than usual though for best results.

For live, yes, this is probably your best bet, that or just a sm58. Small bedroom recording setup you can get away with the 58's too - for more grating vocals I'd probably consider a 57 over it - wouldnt use that for live though.

58's are great just from the point of view that they are so robust and will last you forever - take a huge amount of singer abuse. Don't get a second hand one though as you don't want to know how many sweaty singers with herpes will have probably been slobbering all over it.

Yeah. I should make it clear that the SM7b is used for studio recordings..

For live, a shure sm58 is your best bet.

The best mic I've ever used for metal vocals in the studio is an EV RE-20.

I bought one of those a few months back and it sounds great. I would also agree with that mic.
