Pete Slate of US cult Black/Death band Equinox, also ex-Incubus, formed the band with former Equinox drummer Stephen Spillers to create only heavy Doom/old school Death Metal. The music is crushing and heavy, taking lyrical inspirations from cult horror movies and occult themes

1. LABEL
While the next release are standing out for the end of 2010 and beginning of 2011 (ASKMOOD digital, JeFF "Torment" digipack, DWDY 3" Cd-r, WOODEN STAKE/DRUID LORD split-7"), ALTSPHERE PRODUCTION announces right now the label will receive an exclusive worldwide distribution from February 2011. Indeed, CODE 7 (PLASTIC HEAD) will be the exclusive distributor for U.K and Eire while TWILIGHT VERTRIEB will take up in exclusivity the rest of the world. ALTSPHERE will only assure a self-distribution in France.

Another release is added fro May 2011, this is the first album of SURTR (traditional doom metal - Fra) which will be called "World of doom". The cover artwork will be made by Christoph "Stripe" Schinzel (COUNT RAVEN, SODOM, ANVIL,...). More infos to come.

Germany's Voodoo Shock (strange name, that) rose from ashes of former Rise Above act Naevus. Even if you've never heard Naevus, though, they'll sound familar, with Ozzy-ish vox singing songs full of wonderful doom/stoner cliches like "electric mind" and "rainbow sky". Slow to mid tempo, melodic but ultra heavy, this is in the style of Terra Firma, Sheavy, Trouble, Spirit Caravan, y'know the sort of thing. The riffs are weighty, but Voodoo Shock's perculiarity might be their penchant for spacey mellow parts. Also they cover "Nights In White Satin"! (Aquarius Records)

Much of this album is actually more along the lines of technical death than black metal in terms of guitar tones and riff structure, but there is still plenty of the darkest of genres left. Symphonic instruments provide atmosphere to nearly every crevice of the album, and the vocals, both black and clean, are done to absolute perfection. Also, every now and then, the guitars slip back into black metal territory. The occasional melodies are also done perfection, and are inserted at exactly the right moments. Being any more detailed than that would be really quite hard to do, as I honestly can's think of any good comparisons, including their own previous material. This is truly an album I?ve never, ever heard before. (Metalstorm)

Like just about the entirety of the Grave Mistake roster, Deep Sleep play early `80s hardcore, though with more of an adolescent, scratchy vocal front and a much less abrasive coating. They're often compared to Descendents, and while I wouldn't have thought of the comparison myself, it makes sense to draw a parallel to Descendents' early work upon listening, though of course without the noticeably poppy or upbeat edge.
