Not exactly metal, but certainly metal relevant! Thought you all might be interested. Here's some notes I wrote in the video description:

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY: To make it, I purchased a hi-fidelity file of “The Reckoning of Man” from the Burzum BandCamp page, and chopped it up so I could align it to a grid. Harder than you'd expect. I chose the parts I wanted to use, stitched them together, and then superimposed my own beat, synths, and sound effects. This is the first deep house track I have ever made. I am a total novice with this genre of production, but with that said, I am quite pleased with how everything came out.

NOTES ON ARRANGEMENT: For the impatient, the bass and the drop appear at 2:01. At 2:32, a tone pulse with a comb filter comes into the mix. I had to compose new notes to go over the song, but I made sure that they weren't distracting and kept the integrity of the original composition intact. At 3:02, I felt like a new idea needed to be introduced to keep the track interesting. I didn't want to use non-Burzamic ideas to achieve this, so I decided to borrow the main percussive motif from “Rundtgåing Av Den Transcendentale Egenhetens Støtte”, and I found an identical sounding synth. I had to adjust the notes to slightly to fit the chord progression, and the rhythm to fit the source synth from “The Reckoning of Man”. Regardless, I think the reference will be fairly clear to your ears.

NOTES ON INSPIRATION: My inspiration for making this was sparked unexpectedly. I was awake at the crack of dawn, and I put on "The Reckoning of Man" while looking out into the lake in the wilderness of Canada. Everything had an eerie blue hue, and fog blanketed the water. Something about the pensive, melancholic atmosphere in Varg's composition, coupled with the quietness and beauty of nature, really struck a chord within in me. For some reason, my mind wanted to hear a back beat, and that gave me an idea––What if I made a a deep house version?

NOTES ON SIGNIFICANCE: One thing that I felt lent credence to this idea is the fact the Varg, contrary to the ordinary interests of others in the original Norwegian black metal scene, listened to house/techno, and frequented clubs that played this kind of music. Listening to his third album, "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss", and his third album, "Filosofem", these extracurricular influences make themselves quite clear. I thought to myself, how neat would it be to take newer Burzum music, and sort of re-imagine/reverse-engineer into something that was integral for his original vision of black metal.

NOTES ON THE PICTURE: Walking around the dirt roads by my family's cottage, it reminded me of the Theodor Kittelsen's cover art for “Hvis Lyset Tar Oss”. I looked around for a bend in the road that matched the perspective, and snapped this photograph.
