So I'd really love to know how to produce such a sound on the synth:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lX2Zc8yOeQ at 0:52 when the synth kicks in.

The intro in these songs:

Any help with identifying the synth sound or its effect? Thanks :)

I think it shouldn't be too hard to achieve a similar sound, though it might depend on what synths you have at your disposal and how familiar you are with editing their parameters.

What I think your after is that almost 'ringing' quality to the sound. What you can do is start with a basic pad or synth string. Pitch it up quite a bit, and then set your filter to low pass. The unique character of these sounds is likely due to applying resonance- which basically boosts the harmonics of the frequency you set the filter to. Try boosting the resonance and then sweep around with your low pass filter till you find a sweet spot that sounds nice to you. It's very easy to create unpleasant tones when boosting resonance, and exactly how much and where you'll want to boost will have a lot to do with what sound you start with and the quality of your synths filter, so you'll need to do some experimenting to find something that sounds good to your ears.

Let me know if that helps at all. I can likely knock up some examples or if there are particular synthesizers you are working I might be able to give you some more specific suggestions.

Thank you! Well, I found a great VST strings synth, kind of figured 75% of the sound!
