I could probably help you out there. I don't have a huge range though.

I could provide guitar.

Hey everyone, I may have to dip from this challenge. No matter what I do, my direct in records everything with audio scratches, and It wont stop.

I can help you with mixing, drum programming and guitar (but no technical stuff).

Dudes, I'm really sorry but I also can't join this challenge. The time isn't exactly perfect for me now, I have a really busy period at my study at the moment, and because I know myself I'm afraid this challenge is going to swallow all my time in the upcoming month if I join. So, maybe the next challenge!

Well, whatever happens, I loved this challenge. I got doom metal, a genre i've never tried before, and now i've discovered a joy of playing riffs really slowly. Gonna release this song along with a bunch of others i've just written on a split cd next month, yay!

I have a Creative Sounblaster Gamer Zs from like 2005. And also, my direct in is a gold plated UBS-to-1/4 jack from the headphone jack in the amp into the pc

Why don't you buy a $100 external firewire or usb soundcard? These things are getting more and more affordable and this is a lot easier to use than most pci cards. Especially like yours, which is a gamer sound card. Just a thought....

There should be a button on the tracks that looks like a speaker. It should say Record Monitoring: OFF, change that.

Cool, I've gotten thrash, something which I'm used to making. Hope this turns out well.

how far can we go experimenting with the genre? or should we keep it traditional?

Well I guess it's no huge deal my PC's being a twat, seing as one of my guards got called into his drill weekend (he's in the neational guard) early and left me covering his shifts , ,menaing I know starting at 11 pm, get o work 24 hours straight. So yeah, I think I'm officially out of this challenge.

That sucks, G_A. What did you get, black metal?

Menschenfeindlic wrote:

Nothing has been said about that, so I guess you're free to experiment as long as it sounds like something off the genre?

triggerhappy wrote:

Why not.

To make up for my attrocities, I volunteer to host said next challenge. I know it's bit early for that, but i'll step up to the plate.

To kingnuuuuur: ok, thanks. Was thinking it had to have lyrics, judging from the OP.

I joined as a collaborator a couple days ago. I haven't recorded on my computer before but I have a USB mic so all I really need to do is figure out and download a decent recording program, which shouldn't be a problem. I would like plenty of notice, though, which is why I wanted to join early; I'm generally pretty busy over the summer.

Anyway, I sing clean and I have a pretty decent range. I actually am naturally a baritone but I'm more used to singing in a tenor range because I've been singing metal primarily for a while now. I'm confident, though, that I can cover vocal duties for most of the material that would be likely to come up in doom, traditional, thrash, or power metal. Just don't expect Daniel Heiman's or Rob Halford's vocal range...

Anyway, if you want to get an idea of what my voice sounds like, check out my band, Mortal Mess. Send me a PM if you're interested in having me do vocals for you.

Trying PMing GeoCO3. It's probably not too late as I got accepted one day after the deadline (I think; not too sure about timezones and all).

How's everybody progressing so far? I'm doing the finishing touches to the lyrics hopefully tonight. They're... a bit weird.

I have the lyrics ready, programmed some synths and drums, and got the guitar recorded although it has a a few really shitty things I need to correct not because of my playing but sometimes these blips happen in the recording and I don't know what it's coming from.

Still need to figure out how I'm going to do the vocals.

I wrote the song, but I don't exactly what guitar tone it should be in for when I'm doing it. I'm not exactly used to writing the genre I got.

I got black metal and have this far recorded drums and guitar... Will do bass and shit today.
I did not put any effort into the song, it was written at complete random and all stuff recorded done in about 20-30 minutes in total. But hey, I want it to sound like old Mayhem so it totally works...

I've finished recording my song. It's sloppy as hell (partially due to me being unable to sync the drum and guitar tracks perfectly) but it'll do, I guess.

Having a hard time deciding what's best for the song. I've come up with many good riffs, but they sway between hardcore, stoner/doom and post-metal. One thing's for certain though, the tone is HUGE. It alone puts my last submission to shame.

The main reason I haven't done it is because the guitar I normally record stuff for my main grind band... I have to replace the strings. That way when I do this, I'll just take off my vocals and let the singer of that band sing on it for a release.

It would, but then it'll stray too far from the original genre. I think I figured out a solution though.
