Thanks for the reply stinky. It's my solo project, so I do the vocals. I thought they came out good in this. It's just some grungy metal rock.

recording vocals for one draug song and wrote and recorded drums for an extremely weird death metal song I was asked to participate with. it sounds like a Lecherous Nocturne track that is more jazzy and techish in the drum department. and it's only a min long.

Wrote another song, but my E string broke so I'm going to be writing stuff on bass for a bit.

Got asked to play another show tonight as well as well as a show on april 1st. Hopefully will have a split out with material. Would like to do an EP as well.

Helping a fellow MA member with an album while still trying to get my band started. I swear I'm the only metal fan in Ohio.

Listening to the small dark ambient section I wrote for one of the songs on the one-man OBM demo. I might change one of the voices, I think.

OBM? Occult Black Metal? What the heck does that even mean?

Anyway, sent my bands second album to the pressing factory. In a bit over two weeks I will finally hold a completed album in my hands.

Occult Black Metal is typically a lyrical tag for black metal with occult themes, but I'm going to try and standardize some sort of musical definition. There's going to be Gregorian chanting, ambient sections, creepy spoken word ambience, etc. Think of Orthodox Black Metal mixed with DMDS-era Attila vocals and dissonance.

Also, fuck yeah for trochaic tetrameter.

Holy fuck I just found an ancient sketch of metal song by me, which must be like one of my earliest attempts at writing music and dozens of riffs I wrote down when I was 14. Interesting...

I think I was striving to create something original sounding back then. Some of the riffs are laughably bad but there's some good Timeghoul-esque stuff too. I'm going to sit down and just play through them, pick the best ones and then rearrange them. The sketch was for a progressive death metal song. There was a background story for it too. I think it's pretty epic. In a nutshell: mankind revolts against the will of gods, and kills them thus causing the end of the world.

Got speaking to a guy who's looking to set up an Electric Wizard/Revered Bizarre type doom band, so that should be happening soon. With that in mind, today I worked on some doomy grooves on the practice pads.

Haha, I still remember my first riff. It was generic Darkthrone dyad tremolo picking, but it was pretty emotive. Still have no idea where to use it since my main project is thrash.

My first riff was an odd, chromatic groove type thing. I've since discarded it, but I still hear bits and pieces of it in riffs I write now.

My first riff, if power chord progressions that I "made" don't count, was based on four three-note chords with variations in the bass note, all played in a relatively complex rhythm. It consisted of 8th notes and 8th note breaks. It sounded rather silly at first since I couldn't properly mute with left hand.

I'm(hopefully)going to be playing at a School show with some friends. Going to play Old-Down With The Nails, Immortal-Call of the Wintermoon, and Behemoth-Wolves Guard my Coffin. I've got over a month to get all of the songs down with the other guys. Should be a lot of fun playing live for the first time.

I'm also trying to get an electric within the next two weeks, so I can make some music of my own.

Messed around in the whole tone scale and came up with a really cool Demilich type of groove. It shifts from 4/4 to 3/4 to 4/4 then 2 bars of 3/4 so you can't really headbang to it though, haha. Other than that I'm pretty tired with songwriting as I have three songs still being developed but going absolutely nowhere.

Finishing recording over the next couple weekends, booking an east coast tour for May, coordinating a 7" EP and a split tape for said tour, doing artwork for the tape and tour shirt... then writing more jams, recording, and coordinating another EP, split 7", and tour for later in the year at least... if we can get a significant number of songs written soon then more records will be planned sooner. I think after the 4 releases this year we might do another split or 2 and then write a full length.

You should come to Rochester on your tour unless its out of your way. But I really like your stuff so I would dig it if you guys came up here.

A little piece I came up with last Wednesday. This has nothing to do with the project I'm keen on talking about. I don't feel like rushing it so until it's done you must settle for this. The title translates to

Rainy Evening in a Tobacco Smelling Bar

What you should be up to as a musician is to participate in the Metal-Archives songwriting challenge of February 2012. The genre is death metal with a twist.

I wish I had recording equipment. It really hurts everytime I see one of those competitions going on. Sibelius is designed for classical mainly and it got no metal VST's. Unless I wanted to have Shaolin play everything for me

I write music all the time though. Just finished the mid section for that one project.

I was planning on posting it on Saturday morning or Friday night, but I ended up getting hammered and crashed at my friend's place who lives an hour away from my place. Having gone to sleep at 6 am, I didn't exactly get home early.

I've started writing the song, though all I've got so far is two Gorguts-esque death metal riffs.

Sounds like I'll be loving your song. I'm going down a similar path but with more blackened elements.. i guess Deathspell Omega-ish thus far I have is a rough structure I kinda mapped out in my head.

I am now in this band.

http://www.facebook.com/sorrowseed666

It features me, Morte from Pandora's Toybox, some past members of Sorrowseed, and a couple new guys who we were friends with. We're writing our second album, which will be out sometime later this year.

So far all the new stuff we have is more influenced by the extreme side of the band than the melodic. It's still melodic, mind you, and it still has the gothic overtones, but it's rather black metally with a lot more elements common of that genre.

Do post here when the songs can be downloaded! I'd love to hear the results of this one, since I'm a sucker for basically all 'twists'.

I will indeed. There's one song we have where I'm doing 280 BPM skank beats and my right hand is pumping the eighth notes the entire time. All that time watching porn certainly helped with wrist development. :P

Not to mention that one of the new songs's main riff is in 17/8.

I find the idea of jerking off at 280 BPM to irregular time signatures slightly amusing

Sadly they aren't in the same song, but the first one I mentioned does some odd time play in it too, mainly sections in 9/4 and another 17/8 section.
