A# B C D D# F G# G

What scale would that be? All I can figure out so far is that it is a diminished scale because it has eight notes..

A scale isn't diminished because of the amount of notes it contains.

1-1-2-1-2-3-... and back down a half step (what?).

That really isn't anything. It's kind of close to a superlocrian with a diminished 7th, but still not really the same.

According to All Guitar Chords this is called a "Bebop Major" (spelled 1 2 3 4 5 #5 6 7) with the root of D#. It actually contains the augmented 5th, not dimminished.

And kmiller, G would be before G# in the scale pattern.

So the scale pattern would be something like this (D# "bebop major"):

D#-F (technically E#)-G (technically Fx of F double sharp)-G#-A#-B (technically Ax or A double sharp)-C (technically B#)-D (technically Cx or C double sharp)

or, the much easier to read (Eb "bebop major"):

Eb-F-G-Ab-Bb-B-C-D

It all ends up beign the exact same thing.

Heh, people make up names for any conceivable pattern of intervals these days, I guess. Well, there you go then, the "bebop major".

"Bebop" is a fancy name for "chromatic." What you have there is a bunch of chromatic notes that mean nothing outside the context of harmony.

Uh...no. It's a major scale with an additional augmented 5th. That's the context of harmony.

Yeah looking at it and starting on the root that the OP supplied me with, that was my error. Ah well, can't get 'em all, all the time.

No one gets my sense of humor.

I appreciate the attempt! If it makes you feel any better, I didn't even put the notes in the right order! As you can see, I'm still a beginner so I don't mind digging around through various takes on the same thing in order to learn as much as I can.

If anyone is curious where I got it from, it is part of the melody from "People Seized With Life" from the Chrono Cross soundtrack. Here is a link to the song itself. I strongly, strongly suggest taking three minutes and checking it out. It's far from being metal, but it is a beautiful song. I stuck a MIDI file of it into GP5 and took a small portion of it (tabbed here) for you guys to check out.
