I've got a question that I'm sure some of the uber-nerds on this board can help me with.

www.myspace.com/recrudescencetheband

I don't know what genre to call my own band. I just say death metal because I don't really care, but a lot of people tell me that I'm wrong. We just sort of string riffs together, and we don't care what we sound like to other people, it just sounds good to us. The recording quality is poor, but there are some videos (under the "Videos" section, oddly enough) that have better sound quality.

Personally, I take a hardcore approach to songwriting (not "hardcore," I'm talking about 80s hardcore punk), while the other guitar player really loves this new, gay "deathcore" bullshit. It's not his fault, really, he's young. Young and stupid. And gay. Our singer would fuck goregrind if he could, and our drummer loves neo-classical metal.

As much as you would probably hate to hear it, I'm thinking it sounds more along the lines of deathcore. The drums I aren't really holding a death metal rhythm, but the guitar riffs are borderline death metal. The screeching vocals don't really fit into the music either.

Yeah, I'd say this was pretty fair.

The drummer we recorded that with had just started playing metal. He's played jazz for 16 years or so, all of that was played on a 4 piece jazz kit with three cymbals. Our new drummer (who loves neo-classical) actually uses double bass, etc.

Doesn't everyone feel like they want to murder their band mates?

I guess I should mention that I'm "the" guy, in the band. I book all the shows, talk to all the promoters, drive everyone anywhere we need to go, and spend all of my money while they get to take their girlfriends out to dinner and a movie on Saturday night.

I mean, other than that, I love those guys!

Deathcore, but more emphasis on the death than the core. I like it.

At least you have people who are willing to play your music, I'm sitting here with an album worth of material but nobody to start recording or playing gigs.

Ummm, its really not that hard to find them - like 70% of all metalheads can play guitar/bass/drums/... (guess, but almost all my friends play guitar and I know a bunch of other guys who I don't really consider friends, but they play guitar anyway...).

Dying pig metal? That's what it sounds like to me. Sounds as if a small child was trapped in a washing machine while you guys were playing.

Drums are more of a brutal death metal approach - everything else from vocals to guitar to bass (I'm assuming there is one) screams deathcore.

Get a new singer and play with a more Suffocation-like approach. Then you'd be pretty good.

Well I could explain why I still didn't find anybody in this area (there's people farther away though) but that would be getting way off topic.

I see.

Anyway, I'd agree with the tag "deathcore" ... though it's somewhat different from most of the deathcore bands I heard so far.

Sounded pretty good except.... the vocals. Way, way, way, WAY too screechy for my tastes. The riffs were pretty good and cohesive. Get a bassist, and a different vokillist and record some shit with better quality. I kinda like the jazz drumming too.

It's spelt "vocalist".
