Can anybody give me any thoughts on this syncobation? Does it metal?

You mean "syncopation"? Google it to find out what it means. Yes, it metals, at least sometimes.

It's hard to hear in that example but syncopation is a rithim form which doesn't coincide with the beat. Roughly said. They are therefore sort of unexpected and add up dynamism (or drives you mad if you abuse of it - progr. metal is absolutely not my favourite style, btw). It's used a lot in jazz. If you hear whatever jazz or similar music, focus for instance on the piano, clap the beat and you will hear that the notes don't fall together with it.
In metal I believe that the point is often to be hard and heavy, and then you hit very hard the beat, with the whole weight of drums, guitars and base. If you syncopate, it looses "weight" (and gains "swing" XDDD).

If you don't see it yet, just search for it in youtube. With that and my explanation you surely will hear it.
