Apart from http://metal-archives.com/stats.php and https://pub.needlebase.com/actions/visu ... etal-Index the database logs what happens to the reviews each year. I've extracted some stats from that log now, so enjoy.

Totals:
17694 submissions in total
10500 approvals in total
7533 reviews were rejected or deleted in total
7154 were initial rejections (by mods)
156 reviews were later removed by mods
388 reviews were removed by the respective authors

This means that it was harder to get a review accepted in 2009 than in 2008, as the total number of submissions was somewhat lower (18092 in 2008) and the rejection number grew from 7101. This gives a rejection ratio of 0.43 compared to 0.39 in 2008 and 0.42 in 2007.

It should be noted, for these stats and the ones that follow, that the database only logs the date when something happened to the review, i.e. it was accepted, rejected or deleted. This skews the presented results somewhat when it comes to reviews that are deleted after the year of submission. Now, those deletions probably don't matter too much (there aren't that many deletions anyway), so enjoy the figures.

Album stats:

Whoo! I sure as hell did a lot last year. I count for most of those WASP reviews and the Limbonic Art rejected / accepted pile.

I'm amused that the site's busiest day was my birthday.

I am also highly amused that the Most Approved and Most Rejected lists are almost identical.

Best year for me since joining and plenty of 2010 left to surpass that, I think I'm somewhere in the early 90s right now.

I just noticed, isn't it interesting how Black Sabbath/ Heaven & Hell don't seem to get all the rejected reviews that other big name bands, even Iron Maiden and such, get. Nice for the psychological profile and literacy of the average Sabbath aficionado to be so validated.

This has nothing to do with the literacy of the average Sabbath aficionado. It's just that the average Black Sabbath and Heaven and Hell album does not has a lot of reviews, so it's easier to get a review accepted for them.

Ha, yeah, Jon I think you might be reading into something that isn't there. I, for one, consider myself one of millions of stupid people who love Sabbath's music.

:D I expect you're right, I was messing about. I'd count myself in the same illustrious demographic as ANA does!

Personally I find it quite impressive how many people just a) don't have enough self-criticism to find out their reviewing just isn't good enough compared to over 20 others, b) can't be bothered to really write something good, especially for a really large-scale album. 154 reviews not accepted altogether for Death Magnetic? Wow...
