Glad to see a new Gallows Whisper release that came out of nowhere and took me by suprise. Of course it was reviewed by none other than my fellow writer CHAIRTHROWER. Good job man! I also like that it is short but still very descriptive. I haven't listened to the demo because I want to listen to it on cassette which I ordered directly from GW's bandcamp! (50 cassetes limited edition).

It's been going on much longer than that; since the St Anger era there's been a deluge of these live releases. (The only one of them that's been reviewed is from Shanghai in 2017.)

Thanks, they're nothing great, simply written off the cuff. Too bad about Antioch normally they sound much better. Gallows Whisper is very cool and auspicious in an Angel/Acid Blade or The Night Eternal way. I'l do my best to round up Youthanasia soon, as I tend to procrastinate on classics...two of which, alongside Megadeth and Iron Maiden, have wormed their squirrely way into the rotation, as well as a few surprises down the road. Oh, I'm on a big Fallout kick, following the excellent TV series (so good it's been greenlisted for a second season), and just started an updated playthrough of its fourth instalment.

They're now the band with the most releases on M-A. Take that, Megadeth, I guess?

Yeah, that Incantation review is a complete joke. As another commentator wrote: does that guy even know what death metal is? This is like reviewing techno "music" and complaining that there are no vocals and no one's playing any actual instruments. I agree that ludicrous takes like this shouldn't make it onto this site.

So...I haven't forgotten about my commitment to Megadeth's Youthanasia, as well as Iron Maiden's Seventh Son; expect those soon! (If not during my Night Demon pilgrimage to Montreal, immediately upon my return.)

That review made me revisit the Twilight of the Gods album. What nostalgic afternoons that album gave me when I started discovering viking metal. Although I predict that a detractor will soon appear to give it less than 60-50%. There's never a shortage of someone who wanna be the centerpiece of the table

As for Megadeth's Youthanasia, I have always had a hard time with that one and haven't really warmed up to it to this day. I still consider it the beginning of a long drought for Megadeth and I will probably always despise "À Tout le Monde". Then again, I may be judging it a bit unfairly because a guy I absolutely couldn't stand and otherwise wasn't into metal at all kept raving about Youthanasia and particularly "À Tout le Monde" back in the day. It's funny how such personal impressions tend to linger.

I really like Megadeth's latest album "The Sick, the Dying and the Dead" by the way.

Thank you! I’m marathoning their discography for a Facebook group and it’s been great to have way more stuff to say than I have in a while. I’m gonna see if I can get to Black Clouds & Silver Linings, if only because I already reviewed most of the Mangini-era stuff and still largely stand by my opinions then. Might rewrite my old Systematic Chaos review though, my takes aren’t that different now compared to then but boy howdy was my writing rougher those days.

Fellow writer CHAIRTHROWER, the duty is calling for you to write a review on The 2 Freeways albums (whenever and if you can) now that they were surprisingly added recently to Encyclopedia Metallum!! They are very similar to Flight, Lynx, Tanith, Wytch Hazel and Convent Guilt!!

Also shout out to Twisted_Psychology for his ultra positive review on Metropolis II. That album is simply a masterpiece! Dance of Eternity is probably one of my favourite LaBrie Songs along with As I Am, Caught In a Web and Metropolis I. It was a fine read I must say. Although it won't change my opinion that WDADU is the best DT album! (Metropolis Pt.2 has a great plot! It should be made into a film, without a doubt!!).

Oh, wow!!! That's funny, believe it or not, I was going to ask him to do the same exact thing, except when the new Freeways came out, they weren't on the Archives yet so I didn't. You beat me to it, good job! And I'm happy to see that Freeways has been accepted on board.

You ever listen to an album you want to review, and feel like you can already write a review halfway through it? 'Cause I sure do right now. Some genres I swear are just prone to every minute sounding nigh-identical and it's just your tastes that determine if you think that's good or bad.

Still, I think there's some interesting things to discuss about this album (a blackened symphonic bdm/slam/deathcore album) so I might as well finish the whole thing before reviewing it...

Wow, this exciting Freeways inclusion calls for celebration...especially since I won't be seeing Blind Guardian or Night Demon after all, as Montreal is such a flaming shit hole that Im coming home early...Being separated by your instrument by thousands of miles must never happen. Plus I miss my beautiful hamm...on a positive note, twist hit a home run with True Bearings.

Yeah it does suck and unfortunately, my Mom is very sick, to the point where i feel guilty returning home right away but at the same time, were staying at their friends house and its in the middle of nowhere, as in, it took 3 hours each way to go downtown from here, and while on the ever musty and foul metro i suffered a massive anxiety panic attack due to major homeless drug using era flashbacks where i freaked and begged my folks for an immediate flight home. Also, and this stays between us, im no big fan of Night Demons Outsider which dominates opening act…in other words, id have rather seen them on their Darkness Remains tour - but am looking forward to writing reviews again with Youthanasia rocketing to he podium…Oh, i hope Mom gets better soon!

yeah this happened to me with Lich King's Born of the Bomb and Megadeth's System Has Failed, though I had already drafted a review for the Megadeth one a few times, so my thoughts on it were already pretty well-formed.

I get major contrarian vibes from Annable. I can kinda understand the idea of this review, but how does World Demise get 10 extra points over the debut? in what world?? He seems to have an issue with the vocals but goes back and forth on what it actually is: is it perfectly ridiculous? or is it emo arnold schwarzenegger? I like annable more than some people but I avoid his classic reviews cuz it always seems like he wants to take them down a peg. Death's Human and Megadeth's RiP are some other examples of his classic-bashing reviews, bringing up imaginary complaints like "blues metal" (whatever that is).

Thank you for the support! She is doing better thankfully; its not easy to travel at their age and Im glad i at least got to spend a few days with them.

I also realize my fondness for Night Demon more or less twisted me into travelling to a place not at all good for my mind. Thankfully, AmorgusEnjoyers excellent Blind Guardian reviews of late have taught me all theres to know about this greatly seasoned group, and am really enjoying their debut.
