i was disappointed with the gebel barkal ep released on sub pop. om is above critique, and i am a fan of grails, but i have never honestly acknowledged emil amos' kit skills as much more than a school glue that sticks two pieces of contruction paper together, inevitably running and sliding around as elmer's glue does. and nothing at all against al, he remains virtually solid in sleepy, driving, overworld tones.

(i am not stating emil is lacking at kit, just not the right man for om.)

my problems are these: 1) not in union, but torn apart is an excessive beating of the bass drum, like some spectator obnoxiously knocking on the wall while recording, trying to tap along, 2) emil's ride-slapping is a second-rate knock-off of chris' amazing cymbal tocuhes played in 'at giza', 3) al should carry, as he has done on every single other release with om, while emil should build a quiet, solid wall below the bass; NOT fucking cadence roll and bang-around fill every other thirty seconds. al has always built the setting, 4) 'gebel barkal version' should have been recorded minus all percussion. what a distracting five minutes.

if anything else, thank you al.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Locking time.
