Okay, so I've been having a trouble with a lot lately, when I'm for instance, adding a new band to metal-archives, the band picture can't be bigger than 100K, which ends up with a really small, blurry and shitty image but at the same time, some bands has images that are way bigger than 100k, here's some of those bands:

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Metallica/125#
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Insane/3540309673#
http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Xentrix/746#

Why is that?

The system simply doesn't allow pictures over 100k...It won't let you add them lol

100k is the limit. Site-wide. No exceptions. You won't find any larger photos here.

Dunno what software you're using to resize them, but a limit of 100k allows clear/big/decent enough images. Case in point... well, many band pics on the site, like the ones you linked. :P

You aren't trying to upload images in lossless formats like bmp, right?

And although technically illegal, you can remove EXIF date from images to reduce file size as well.

EDIT: Well, illegal depending on your location, at least ...

Also, PLEASE don't use "Save as..." from Photoshop's "File" menu to output the JPEGs.

PLEASE use "Save for Web..." instead. Aside from offering you granular control over image quality (allowing you to balance it against filesize), it doesn't embed a hideous 25 KBs chunk of Photoshop-only data that's lodged inside the file if you use the "Save as..." function. :ugh:

Same with GIMP, although you have to download a plug-in first.

Download Irfanview + plugins, use the "save for web" option. It has never been a problem, though a few massive ones had to be resized to look OK.

You can also use Irfanview with the RIOT plugin to set the jpg file size when you save it.
