Blacklisted in late 2016 for being predominantly Rock-based. Have they released anything since?

Hope mods will check my first ever band entry for SALBAHIS (Philippines). Already submitted sample tracks and a photo evidence of their demo CD on April 29, 2018.

Yes, they did. In 2017 EP "The Beast Within Me" - here is the title track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNraO3McL4w feat. Florin Costachita .

I have noticed, that the Spanish band Khayman was rjected, presumably a longer time ago. Was their new 2018 album also reviewed? It sounds like legitimate southern metal to me, I hear clear influences of Black Label Society: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA9-IJb_oF8

The blacklist note from 2017 (by me) says punk, but hm... I don't know what exactly to call this now. Some hyperactive crossover thrashy thing, deserves re-evaluation.

Blacklist Appeal: Erdve (Lithuania), May 17, 2018

The blacklist for this band was appealed a year ago, with the reason being they were post-hardcore.

Since then, the band has removed their previous material and released a debut album on Season of Mist.

After listening to it, I can certainly say this blackened sludge metal/hardcore. They sound like Amenra and Senior Fellows had one angry, angry baby. While the hardcore influence is strong, the vast majority of riffs and grooves on this album are low/mid tempo with sludge's signature half-time snare that it shares with doom.

Definitely metal to this, but at this point I'm more inclined to say that the blacklisting still applies. Note that this is not an ironclad "no" but more me not feeling certain enough to whitelist it. I also asked the mod who did the original blacklisting and his thoughts are similar.

Seems that's really more of a single, so not enough to overturn this anyway.

I did, actually. As did the other moderator whose assessment I agreed with.

Nope, it was blacklisted in 2013. Sounds like they really changed up their sound, whitelisted.

A suggestion — the rules require that the band have an actual physical release or a qualifying digital release. Which is all well and fine and a line needs to be drawn somewhere.

But when a record label submits the band shortly before actual release, as I did today, accommodations would be appreciated. Like it or not, people are going to come here to find information about the band during the PR run-up to actual release. (At least, in the best case scenario). The purpose of the site, as we all know, is to disseminate reliable information about metal bands and an opportunity is being missed for the site to fulfill its mission.

I was listening to Parkway Drive's new album this morning, and besides that it's an awesome album (i know, not the point here) they really have dropped most of their Core influences by now, it's a Modern Metal masterpiece. Are they up for reconsideration? Would love to hear your opinions ;)

It's pretty much straight up deathcore, the kind we don't accept.

Like it or not, those are the rules. We do not accept bands until they have a valid release. Metal Archives is not a promotional tool, it is an encyclopedia of what we consider to be metal bands. It really isn't that much effort for you to wait until the album is actually released and then submit it.

Can Tanpopo Crisis (USA) be whitelisted on the basis of their most recent release, Millennium Flower? I'm guessing they were probably blacklisted due to their earlier work being either too short for a digital-only submission or inferior in quality, but here we have a solid 45 minutes of blackgaze/post-black metal.

Regarding the Czech progressive metal band CKB, when I asked about them the last time, I was told by Azmodes, that he agrees, that the band is progressive metal, but that he must ask about it on the mod forum first. About two months are gone, so is there a resolution about the band, please? I maintain my position, that the band plays acceptable progressive metal with a slight avant-garde touch. You can listen to their whole CD album on their Bandzone profile (Proměny života): http://bandzone.cz/ckb

We gave it a thorough listen, and we just don't feel that it's metal enough. A little too borderline, man.

Why is Rammstein and Kvelertak blacklisted? I am pretty sure they are metal. If they are not metal, why are Rammstein considered industrial metal and Kvelertak a combination of black metal and hardcore punk?

You'll find explanations for both by using the search function, as the first post advises.

In a nutshell, neither is considered predominantly metal; Kvelertak being more punk/rock, Rammstein more industrial.

So, I've glanced over the rules, hopefully I'm following them and after so many years I see that Between the Buried and Me are still banned. There was discussion about this after their last LP Coma Ecliptic and they've remained banned. Well, there is a new record out on Sumerian Records called Automata 1. If this isn't metal, then I guess I'm clueless as to what metal is.

Automata 1 has already been discussed among the staf and was deemed to be unacceptable. Decidedly non-metallic proggycore.
mcdetroit586 wrote:
Example, everyone calls Black Sabbath heavy metal, but by today's standards they aren't at all. At the time that they started making music, they were one of the most extreme bands in the world.

Dude... If you consider Black Sabbath NOT to be Metal "by today's standards", then you're waaaaaay off. I even suspect you're not familiar with them, besides a couple of Ozzy-era songs. There's not way in hell one could NOT call Black Sabbath a Metal band. Forget about the fact they invented it. Just blast any album from any era. Believe me, it's gonna be a Metal album.

Forgive me in advance as this may be a total f***** n00b question, but what sort of role do cover songs/albums play in determining a band's eligibility?

The only reason I bring this up is because, well other than being a huge BTBAM fan, their album, "The Anatomy of" consists of covers of Blackened, Cemetery Gates, Territory, & Kickstart my Heart (my favorite by far). If it is simply because they did not write the original material, that's totally understandable. But if that can be overlooked, I thought I would at least bring this album and these tracks in particular to your attention, in case it may have been overlooked. These are fantastic metal covers.

At the very least, those are four frekin gnarrrrly covers worth a listen. :metal:

Believe me when I say BTBAM has been approached from all angles, and no album from a band as popular as them has somehow flown under our radar.

But yes, you're right, cover songs don't count towards inclusion, it must be original metal material. It's meant to deter tribute bands and full on cover bands (like Powerglove and the bazillions of Touhou bands out of Japan) from being submitted but it has a nice side effect of closing a potential loophole for non-metal bands who do a random cover album of metal songs or something. And hell, even if that wasn't the rule, isn't half of that album non metal covers anyway? They wouldn't even pass even if that loophole was open! :p

Have a question.... and I realize that we're not supposed to be comparing bands, so I am honestly not trying to do that....
Last night I came across this band called 夢遊病者 "Sleepwalker", had honestly never heard of before, fell in love with instantly, and while I listened to the whole album I was reminded of Ploughshare, Fell Ruin and Tchornobog, ALL at the same time!!!!!

I come here to check them out, but only find that they had been blacklisted; but that this was back in June(?) I think of last year. But, the album that I had listened to last night was: https://sentientruin.bandcamp.com/album/- Any chance with this album (new release) from a few days ago, would please give them the chance to be whitelisted?

Blacklisting was for not being metal, new album warrants a listen so we'll get to it.

Trying to add a release of mine Loud Night 7" but they're blacklisted. Not sure why? Sounds plenty metal to me...
