Hello world, I submitted a Dark Ambient project yesterday. It belongs to Munruthel, the well-known drummer from Nokturnal Mortum. It is, in fact, his first work in the genre, and given every other one is there on the MA (as Munruthel and with other names), i don't see why this one should have been rejected. I was said this was not metal, which I kind of disagree, given this genre has always been linked to Black Metal artists (only they play it), and has a lot of both conceptual and musical connections with the genre. It doesn't have drums or distortion, but it still captures the spirit. Anyways, I do not think i need to explain this for there are hundreds of Dark Ambient projects listed on the MA, some of them very similar to Silentium. I wish you reconsider your decision, i feel this should be listed as it is his first work and it is consider as one of the first Dark Ambient influences, it's kind of a big deal for us who enjoy this kind of music.

Well, despite being sort of related to metal, dark ambient isn't metal. Because of that, dark ambient bands aren't automatically accepted. Bands which have released metal works too can be found from the site, but the others are selected only if they're considered notable enough.

Rules wrote:
  • Side-projects are a big debate. When does a band stop being one and starts being a full-time band? What's the difference between a solo career and a side-project, etc. Now, a side-project is a band started in parallel to another band. This is not the same thing as a band member leaving a band and forming a new one, or to join another band! For example, Soulfly is no more a side-project of Max Cavalera as Voivod is a side-project of Jason Newsted.
One might argue that a band can start as such but can stop being one if the main band splits-up. Or that while it's reasonable to have Wongraven or Chaostar, that a country band started by a Flotsam & Jetsam member would simply look out of place on a metal site. Our answer is that we have no choice but to go with a case by case approach. It might be a little arbitrary, but it's hard to define a rule that will apply for every case of a non-metal side-project. Yes, that might mean you'll have to ask us before submitting this guy's side-project. Usually there shouldn't be any problem, but if the side-project really has nothing to do with the heavy metal scene and/or would really look out of place here, chances are, it won't be accepted.
  • Additionally, there will be some non-metal bands featured on the site that we feel are still part of the metal scene despite not being metal themselves (usually darkwave, ambient, neo-classical and/or folk bands, examples being Mortiis, Elend, Autumn Tears, Stille Volk, etc). These bands are selected by the moderators in an admittedly arbitrary fashion, and their submission by normal users is discouraged. Please bear with us on this.

Except the band is already on the Archives. http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Munruthel/10075 I never heard the music but it appears that his later stuff is metal.

That is Munruthel, not Silentium, just as Vond is not Mortiis. Silentium is the name of the project, the album is "The ancients' wisdom"

Psyclon Nine: I know that they play Aggrotech, but ever since 'Crwn Thy Frnicatr' they have included black metal influences into their music (wikipedia actually categorises the band under black metal).

We already have electronic black metal bands such as Technophobia and Ensoph included on M.A, why not Psyclon Nine?

...

Really. Psyclon Nine...? Dude, they're as "black metal" as Hocico. And there's no gentle way to put this... Wikipedia is full of shit when it comes to genre classifications. As long as a "reliable third-party source" describes a band's music as a certain genre, the genre can technically be added. And to Wikipedia, "reliable third-party sources" can include that babbling reviewer that has no clue what he's talking about. For instance, friggin' Brain Drill were listed as "/grindcore" simply based on this. :ugh:

The only BM influences you'll hear in Psyclon Nine's music are the raspy vocal styles and *some* guitars. The bulk of their discography is entirely industrial, and even if they released one fully black metal release, that wouldn't be enough to get them on the site.

No, it's not an error. While they have some black metal influences, it wasn't enough.

Only 2 or 3 songs are ambient, the rest is black metal.

Then we'll have to disagree there. It's mostly ambient with distorted guitars, no metal riffing.

I found the band and when I tried to submit it, it appeared the blacklist message, why was this blacklisted?

It's more ambient than metal. Last time we checked, at least (December 2012).

I would label it as symphonic black metal, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRXZHeDLcMM, not more ambient than metal, listen.

We already listened to it. It varies between metal and ambient, sure, but it was eventually decided that the latter is predominant.

Releases must be available to download, streaming-only albums (i.e. Youtube) are not considered valid releases.

Will not understand why Lucifer's Friend was removed from the Archives. YES, i know that the majority of their discography wasn't metal BUT, Their 1st album, 2nd album and Mean Machine are Definitive metal. Here are some examples:

Cool Hand Killer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRoW4-zhsZk

Ride The Sky
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVpe13BwR9c

Lucifer's Friend

Easy answer to that question. An overzealous former mod decided to take it upon his own initiative (without asking anyone) to remove it and other "70s Rock" like Flower Travellin' Band, simply because of his own personal biases. Thank you for bringing this to our attention; I'm willing to look into them again with the rest of the staff.

From what I know of them, Lucifer's Friend were hard rock, but I'll take a look at the stuff you mentioned and discuss it with the staff as Derigin mentioned.

Years ago my project "Frater Ximenes is Dead" had been rejected because it was only "pure noise" due to the lack of a normal recording kit. Actually we're black metal and we released a demo and you can find a track on this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq8ORgtY2h4.
All the demo is Black Metal with some avantgarde elements and a moderator asked me to find a song for demostration. Here it is.
If you need to listen all the other tracks contact me through PM.

Hmm, I will be interested to see what happens with this development. FTB especially are a pretty important piece of metal's development and I was sad to see them go.

So I ask once again (message seems to be lost ^^)
Why ist the austrian project Uruk-Hai deleted???? Two albums are Metal....maybe the rest seems ambient, but if you look, you have many of such bands.....even from the same artist the Band *Eismond* . Just the FIRST demo ist Ambient, the following outputs are all Black Metal like, so i see no reason for it not to be add.
Hope you can explain it, thanks

As I want to add it, it came following info:

"Warning: a band called "Eismond" (Austria) has been blacklisted! Your submission will NOT go through.
If you think this is an error, please ask in this forum thread. Attempting to circumvent the blacklist is a bannable offense. Thank you."
I don´t find any good reasons for this, please explain it to me

The blacklist says it's ambient. Post samples for the releases you consider metal here if you disagree.
