Perfect thread for an important Metal discussion is locked, why?!

Totally makes the band name stand out from the other 'normal' words.

Check it out:

So I am listening to SODOM after i sodomized a chick and BROWN JENKINS sounded so killer in the car in the dark with fog rolling in.

I heard FOG recently again, they are great. Think a member is in TYPHUS now.

Speaking of SODOMIZED, those old tapes should be on CD, make them immortal.

My friends cat looks like Abbath of IMMORTAL.

So, lets all chip in and 'SHOUT' the band names!

Quote:
MiXeD cApItAlizATioN mEaNs BrUtAlitY.

Not mixed, just band names 'CAPPED' only.

Because then the bands actually stand out and doesn't blend in and also speed-readers can differentiate the name which you can't do now if only the first letter is done.

Also bands like JEEL, WASP and KA have to be capitalized.

You got about 10 or 12 people stating obvious disdain for the idea. I figured that was enough. Discussion was turning off topic to include mixed capitalization and "straight edge" capitalization.

Are you looking to get a presidential order passed to institute this as policy for all? What is your agenda? This will not work. If you wish to capitalize band names, feel free, but otherwise, it's not really going anywhere.

This is why your thread was locked.

But why can't it be up for discussion?

I have contributed a ton to this site and would like opinions (on topic).

Now that it's posted in the right section, if you'd like some more people to tell you the idea isn't feasible, that's fine. Again, there's only so far a topic like this can go.

I really don't think it's necessary to capitalize all band names, and I also don't think it helps in any way.

Well it would make a huge difference on this site.

Our old band is DEAD BEAT and we always made it caps, i hate seeing it any other way, ha.

Well, I can understand if a band has it's name in caps on purpose..etc etc..but all band named needing caps? don't think its necessary.

Just my opinion on the matter.

Makes more sense the way I have always done it (over 20 years), because browsing through this site, there are tons that are wrong.

Wouldn't be the case if 100% were in caps now, would it?

No, it should only be capitalized if the band is (Manilla Road, not manilla road or MANILLA ROAD or god forbid, MaNiLLa RoAd)

Well, I've been doing it correctly (capitalizing the first letter of the band) the past 20 years and my way makes perfect sense to me. Do you seem to have an idea that this doesn't really have legs? You're not going to get people to follow this grass roots movement especially since there isn't a "President of the Scene" to usher this in as law.

While there may be "TONS" (that's not a band...how'd that get all caps?) wrong with the site, it's not too bad for a living internet document that is populated by its users. Can you imagine if one or two rogue entities started capitalizing every band name in the archives? Now THAT (again, not a band name) would look ridiculous.

It would be done in a blanket sweep somehow, prob.

(and I edited the adjective, happy?)

Sorry D, I don't think this will really happen in any incarnation (de jure or de facto). It's just not a popular ideal by any means in any demographic.

Is AUTOPSY_666 a band, then?

In any case, I think his humongous metal collection is suffocating him, not allowing oxygen to the brain to think clearly on such topics. Sorry, dude, but this is not a good idea and will never be implemented.

Besides, Iron Maiden looks better than IRON MAIDEN. No need to scream at every band name mention. You wouldn't do it in normal conversation, so there's no reason to do it on a forum, either.

I think that's what the character in your signature was listening to, rather than Cosmic Atrophy.

Maybe he was ignoring your statement and changing the topic to how awesome he thinks LOL is. :p

I have not, although I would assume he wouldn't scream band names in regular conversation. :P

Either way, I'd love to go to his place and look at his collection. I'd probably be overwhelmed, but in a good way.

Yes, I am a picky person, more people should be.

Of course I'm strange, I'm me, not anyone else.

I wouldn't welcome such a convention. I find the style irritating when I come across it. It tends to feel like the author is more intent on NAME DROPPING than anything else.
Also, if I'm interested enough to read a piece of writing then I'm actually going to read it. I don't need band names thrust at me even on a glance-over, because if I'm not going to read it then I'm unlikely to change my mind if I notice a band I know mentioned. I'll have already decided based on what the subject matter appears to be.

I find such layout practices distasteful and I frankly don't see why band names should have a different position than other proper nouns.

True.

There's no need to change this. If The Metal Observer does it, and it looks slightly retarded there, it shows that it has been tried and it didn't work. There's no need to follow a worse example.

If you are capable of reading comprehension and deciphering context, you would notice that it was not in reference to the band.

As Corimngul has already mentioned, bands are proper nouns, and I don't see the logic in giving them special treatment just because they're band names.

It also looks retarded.

I fully agree with Corimngul. Capitalization of band names is just awful.

Yeah, if you want a band's name to stand out, take the extra seconds to make it bold or in italics. THIS is an eyesore, especially when it's done a dozen times in a medium-sized review.
