I'm sure this was proposed and shot down countless times, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to why Alice Cooper is not considered metal according to the set out guidelines. For those that will say if we let Alice Cooper in, then we might as well let Led Zeppelin in etc. etc. I completely disagree. Cooper's albums from the 70s could be discarded as hard rock/shock rock/glam rock/whatever, but what about some of the latest stuff he's been putting out. It's clearly heavy enough to be considered for the archives, and I could probably find a number of bands in the archives right now that probably sound less metal than Cooper.

To be fair, I think his songs differ from time to time, and so do his albums. For instance Brutal Planet, Dragontown, and Along Came A Spider are more on the metal side, while Dirty Diamonds and The Eyes Of Alice Cooper are more rock. Still, that's no reason to exclude him from the archives, especially given his influence and lyrical content. When you have bands like Thin Lizzy and Rush in here that are clearly borderline metal, there's really not much excuse.

Could someone elaborate more on this exclusion?

If you're sure they released at least a METAL album, prove it by providing mp3's of this album... then maybe mods will accept a discussion

Otherwise I doubt it will enter M-A

Alice Cooper?

One Album that sonsists of approx 5 - 6 "pure" metal songs, and maybe a few more songs on the albums they released in the past 25 years. Other than that, the prototype of a hard rock band with a shock rock image.

Not true, they've been vetoed since day one and are even featured in the rules as an example of unacceptable classic hard rock.

Those newer albums mentioned above aren't actually metal anyway, just some lame Marilyn Manson / Rob Zombie ripoff.
