honestly, it takes 3 or 2 seconds to read a name. How much quicker (and more importantly, why??) do you need it do be?

When you are scrolling down a page, it can be easier to track a specific post you are looking for rather than looking at every one closely and carefully. If you see their particular profile pic, you can check the post to see if it was the one you were looking for.

I remember looking through that thread as well. That was fun to look through. The mods here are really scrict about having serious discussion rather than just-for-fun-and-laughs kind of things.

It's unnecessary, and normally ends up being an eyesore. The clean/minimalist look is one of the site's defining aesthetic features. If it's an important feature for you, there's nothing to stop you from finding a site better suited to your needs. There are many to choose from.

Same goes for the "Random pics" thread. If you want to giggle and shit like a lobotomized 6 year old, fine, that's your business. Again, many other sites will doubtlessly better suit your specific needs, and we encourage you to shop around for one.
