I am just curious, why the band ids have changed for new submitted bands.

an old one:
http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=129332
a new one:
http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=3540255455

Why do I get the feeling that this is a reference to something?

Montmirail... A guy who whined incessantly and threatened the site. The reason was that his band ID is #100369 and he hated his band ending with the number 9 for some ridiculous reason.

The thread was hysterically funny... I'll see if I can find it :D

Edit: Here we are

Shadow, you fail. It is nine that is incomplete, not ten.

Anyway, yes this change in IDs has been noted already. I don't know why it has happened.

It's apparently related to the recent downtime + loss of various threads, though I'm not completely sure of why or what the connection is (if any).

The ID field is a auto-generated number and it auto-increments every time a band is accepted. Same with albums, songs, etc. It's a fundamental part of any good database.

That thread is the funniest thing on this site. I swear I peed a little reading Montmirail's posts.

Yes, it's the table key. The reason for the jump from a six-digit number to a ten-digit number is however not as obvious.

It's pretty much the best thing ever - and a more than worthy sig.

Yeah, the auto_increment value completely screwed up during the crash the other day. Several tables were corrupted and had to be repaired. If the worst impact we had to the band data is merely a bizarre ID change, I guess we can count ourselves lucky.

Morrigan, how many tables are there in the database? My guess would be around 40 but it all depends on how much you've normalized it. I can only imagine how many V2 will have.
