I'm hoping for something along the lines of "there's no Sabbath influence in doom metal." :-D

Some jerk can't tell the difference between Gothic Rock and Gothic Metal. You know who it might be?

Hi,

I think the genre of Leprous (NOR) should be changed to prog metal (early) , progressive metal/rock (later). I think since their album Coal they blend more and more rock elements to their sound and their latest release, Malina is pure progressive rock. What's your opinion?

I'll update the tag to just read "Progressive Metal/Rock". There's not really a need for a convoluted genre tag for a shift like that. But you are right, "Malina" is basically just prog rock.

Hi mods,

Der Weg einer Freiheit https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Der_Weg_einer_Freiheit/3540275159 released their latest LP Finsterre not so long ago and this album has many post/(atmospheric) elements.
You can listen to the whole album here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLArAJlC1y558N-RTx_UuYQMgkJ_OuZFF6

I think this should be indicated in their genre.

I've listened to Finisterre quite a bit, and I agree that it incorporates post-metal elements, like long build-ups and intense climaxes, and it is indeed a very atmospheric record. In my estimation the core of the sound and the majority of the music (both on Finisterre and their discography in general) is very much just black metal, and I don't recommend that the genre be changed. I feel like it would be warranted by a much less subtle change of sound. Finisterre's style is in clear linear progression from the previous full-length album, and therefore not a style shift as such.

My two cents as a big fan of Der Weg, Finisterre, black metal and post-metal. :)

I would say what the visitor suggests is closer to what they play than metalcore, but it has a lot more groove metal to my ears than death metal.

Hexx's new album, Wrath of the Reaper, is back to the power/thrash metal style that they played on their first two albums. Their genre should probably be updated to "Power/Thrash Metal (early, later), Death Metal (mid)".

I think they should update the genre they play. Gorguts began as traditional death metal in their first 2, the classics ''Considered Dead'' and ''The Erosion Of Sanity'', and then came with the avant-garde and technical.

Genre: Death Metal (early), Technical/Avant-garde Death Metal (later).

Northern Lights is listed as neoclassical power, but I think they should be neoclassical progressive or at least neoclassical power/prog. There are a lot of unusual structures and tempo changes in most of the songs on their album. A couple of the tracks lean toward more of a power metal aesthetic, but the progressive seems stronger to me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98sqZe1QOx0 (perhaps the most proggy they get); also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YssuuSHEOB0 (even in a track like this with some power elements it stays considerably proggy)

https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Gmork/94623 are listed as simply black metal band which is wrong now. Their early stuff was partly atmospheric black metal but since at least 2013 full-length they are obviously playing a mix of melodic black and melodic death metal with inspiration from bands like Dissection etc. Their new stuff:
https://adventofgmork.bandcamp.com/albu ... ls-erotica
https://adventofgmork.bandcamp.com/album/ave-nihil
Atmospheric BM:
https://adventofgmork.bandcamp.com/albu ... -part-only
They also created a different project to make experiments with atmospheric BM called "La Mer Est Morte" and stated that they are going to keep the style of their latest albums with Gmork: https://vk.com/wall-454642_1752

I also don't think that melodic death metal is a convenient tag for the newest releases of Stielas Storhett:
https://vk.com/wall-26140698_223075
https://vk.com/wall-26140698_163150
At least, melodic death/black or even post-black metal

Barón Rojo is Hard Rock/Heavy Metal.

Overall, the 100% pure heavy metal songs from their discography are mostly few and correspond to the following ones:

Larga Vida Al Rock & Roll (1981): metal songs: Larga vida al rock and roll
(1988): no metal songs. (glam/hard rock)
Obstinato (1989): metal songs: Vampiros y banqueros, Tren fantasma (both heavy/speed metal songs)
Desafío (1992): metal songs: Te espero en el infierno, Alí Babá, El enemigo a abatir,
Arma Secreta (1997): metal songs: Bajo Tierra, Todo me da igual, Fugitivo, Comunicación
20+ (2001): metal songs: Sigue, Quémame con tu piel
Perversiones (2003): cover album.
Ultimasmentes (2006): couldn't find the full album. (available songs: 1, 2, 3)
Tommy Barón: a rock opera cover album.

The rest are either bluesy hard rock, ballads or hybrid heavy/rock songs. In conclusion, they are mainly a hard rock band with metal moments.

I think Black/Gothic Metal would work better for Darkstyle than just Gothic Metal.

Instead of "Alternative heavy/groove metal", the band Of the Earth should be labeled as "Stoner/Groove Metal":

The genre for both Mind Over Four and Peace and Silence currently say "Heavy Metal"
Alternative/Progressive Metal would probably fit both bands better, maybe just Alternative/Grunge for Peace and Silence:

Crimsonfire (https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Crimsonfire/3077) should be listed as Progressive/Power Metal and not just power metal. While songs like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdhOwEMNvNA are indeed fairly straight power, they also have a number of proggy bits and cite a strong Dream Theater influence on their website. Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjBNUAP8ovg; there are several others.

Wind Rose is currently listed as "Progressive/Power Metal", while I'm not that familiar with their other 2 albums, their latest album, Stonehymn, sounds pretty folk metal to me. I'd suggest changing their genre to "Progressive/Power/Folk Metal".

Here's their myspace, but I can't manage to make them play on my divice

Danava listed as Psychedelic/Stoner rock/Metal. In my humble opinion, they sound more like a classical Heavy Metal/Psychedelic Rock band to me. I don't think every band with a retro sound should be classified under the "Stoner" tag.

Hi mods,

I've recently listened to the new album of Inverted Serenity, and I think the genre field could be updated with the 'progressvive' tag. You can check their latest release below:
As Spectres Wither

Waiting for your comments about it.

Daniel Lioneye

The latter part of the genre, Melodic Black/Gothic Metal, seems completely outlandish. The third album is modern Finnish hard rock or melodic metal, like a heavier Suburban Tribe, or contemporary Amorphis without the folk or prog elements. I haven't heard Vol. II, so it could be different, but I think a thorough re-evaluation of the genre would be in order.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... VgATdcTEhs

Edit: One of the songs halfway into the album has some Gorgoroth-style trill riffs and distorted vocals. That's probably black metal influence, but it's extremely an cut-and-dried, mainstream-safe variety.

I feel like Ishtar (Korea) should have "Symphonic" added to their genre, as it's a common style throughout their discography. Not to mention, they're heavily influenced by Nightwish, seeing as they incorporate operatic vocals, list them as a "recommended if you like" band on CDBaby and were an opening act for Tarja's solo project.

I think the listing for As Divine Grace is kind of misleading. First of all, their early stuff was never pure death metal. It was romantic, melodic sounding death/doom like My Dying Bride or Paradise Lost. As for their later work, it's incredibly gothic sounding. When I think of "doom rock", I think of Witchcraft or Bloody Ceremony. Their first full-length, Lumo, is pretty standard gothic/doom, whereas Supremature is almost pure gothic rock/shoegaze.

I think it'd be better if their genre were changed to "Doom/Death Metal (early), Gothic/Doom Metal/Rock (later)". The latter is sort of a broad way to cover both Lumo and Supremature.

First EP (doom/death metal):

Lumo (gothic/doom metal):

Supremature (gothic rock):

Regarding the musical genre, Bride's last heavy metal album was Silence Is Madness from 1989. So, in case you hadn't noticed, the report queue is more than a little bloated lately. In an effort to kill off some of the fat, I'm cross-posting several of the Wrong Genre reports with valid evidence to this thread, since A) Knights can't work them anyway, and B) this is a more visible spot to get them worked on. The "Eritis Sicut Deus" demo and the "Plurima Mortis Imago" album are very experimental and avant-garde sounding records. "Diabolicaons" is also somewhat experimental (in some songs), but mostly very straightforward Black/Death Metal. Their new album "The I" is epic/atmospheric.

I suggest to use "Experimental Black/Death Metal" to unify all of the above, because the band literally makes each new album a musical experiment which mixes various styles and elements.

In addition to my reports to remove the material released as Sturmflagge, I don't really think the current field accurately encapsulate all of Edelweiss's discography.

RAC describes "Der Kampf geht weiter" most accurately along with elements of Thrash Metal, Groove Metal, Hardcore and Heavy Metal.

The most unequivocally Metal album is "Absolution" with its mix of Death Metal, Thrash Metal and Hardcore.

"Auf dem..." and "Evangelium" are where things get weird. Both are along the lines of Hardcore Punk, Black Metal, Groove Metal, Industrial Metal and Electronica at times. The instrumentation on "Evangelium" is particularly jarring with these crescendoing synths and keyboards. I don't know if the guy was trying to be Avant-Garde, but sheesh, he didn't stick to one genre on the later albums.

I didn't bother posting the intros/outros on "Evangelium" since they're ultimately irrelevant to the basis of the album's sound.

Temisto: https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Temisto/3540408237

Listed as simply "death metal" but there are a lot of jangly, galloping arpeggio riffs that are definitely closer to Ved Buens Ende than to any sort of death metal. I would call it "Black/Death Metal" or perhaps "Progressive Black/Death Metal".

Listen to their only release here: https://temisto.bandcamp.com/releases

Regarding the band Meta-Stasis (https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Me ... 3540257095)

While they're still a death metal band, their new album specifically draws heavy influences from nu-metal. Sounds like if Slipknot were a death metal band. A tag change to something like "Death Metal, Nu-Metal (later)" would be suitable.

I'm going to take the opportunity to crosspost my report for Сокира Перуна (or "Sokyra Peruna").

Spoiler: show
Despite the lyrical content, "Pagan Metal" doesn't fit as a genre descriptor. I reckon "Pagan Metal" requires an integration of elaborate folksy instrumentation with Metal riffs, which this band lacks almost entirely. The Metal albums are Metal, and the Folk albums are Folk.

Their first three albums were RAC entirely, so if nothing else, the genre field should be updated to reflect that.

The only folk and rock together can be heard on their RAC albums and "...І мертвим, і живим, і ненародженим (...To fallen, alive and unborn...)". "To Fallen..." is almost entirely Folk with only occasional segments of Metal.

"Слово" is a Folk album, full stop.

"For All We Have and Are" marks the beginning of their turn towards Heavy Metal much like their Czech contemporaries Excalibur. That album features epic Heavy Metal with sporadic synthy crescendoes. "XV" would continue those themes with keyboards instead of synths

"Invictus" and the last two albums are almost borderline mallcore-esque Groove Metal with all those phat chugz going on. Some Hardcore/Metalcore going on, too. There's still enough Metal going on to merit inclusion, but Pagan Metal, it ain't. Not even remotely.
