Hey, I was just wondering if there was any plan to add the ability to create polls on threads. Seeing as we discuss lots of music here, it seems that having polls (e.g. for favorite ____ album or favorite metal genre, or just random crap) would fit in rather nicely. I know I've seen this on other forums, but I don't know if it would be possible to easily put on the MA forums, if indeed people would want it. Is it dependent on what kind of forum software you use, or is a feature you can just add in?

(of course if we did have polling capabilities, we could have a for/against poll... but that would be chicken or the egg I guess... )

there is a poll function, but it is disabled and only available to the moderators; for good reason.

I think that if you want to make a poll, and it is worth having, then suggest it to a mod.

As stated above, the board does indeed have poll capability (it's a pretty standard feature), but it's off-limits to most users. Been that way for quite a long time, presumably because polls tend to engender quasi-participation, and to breed like rabbits.

Yeah, I suppose I could definitely see that happening. Although, if you could make it a requirement that someone would be forced to actually submit a response, and not just enter a choice in the poll (i.e. they would have to justify/comment on whatever they chose) then it could be useful to see how the statistics stack up.

Although in all likelihood it would just degrade the quality of the forums, so I suppose it's probably better not to do it.
