I'd like to know what is the consensus regarding digital releases, and more specifically, when does it make sense to add multiple versions of one. I was under the impression that there should always be at most one digital version of a release. Maybe an exception would be if some other party released a digital version with a different tracklist, or different cover art, although I don't have any example of this.

On the other hand, it is often the case that an album is available digitally from both the band's and the label's Bandcamp pages. If it's the exact same album, released on the same date, I don't see the point of having two digital versions on this site (one "independent" and one released by the label).

I'm asking this question because I recently filed some duplicate reports in such instances (multiple digital versions with no added value), but the reports were closed without deletion of the duplicate, so I thought maybe I got it all wrong. Could someone please clarify this for me?

Here are some examples where I think the "independent" digital version should be removed :

I just saw the first of your links. Just want to add that Black Lion runs all the band pages themselves under the moniker of the bands that belong to them so that might have led to confusion. At least afaik
Means all the "ibdependent" bandcamp releases are actually hosted by the label.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but that's just the way Bandcamp pages for labels are structured. This album is indeed hosted by Black Lion, and on the band's own bandcamp page. These are undoubtedly two different pages. What I'm saying is that this should not lead to having two different versions of the digital release on MA. There should be only one.
In the case of this album, there was first a digital version added a few months ago (released by Black Lion), and then another user added a second version (the "independent" one). This second version is, in my opinion, a duplicate, and should be removed.
