As it stands we do hold digital only bands to a bit higher standard on things like this. The policy is mostly to keep people from slapping together some complete drivel and tossing it up on bandcamp just to get their band on the site. Yeah, it sounds a little crazy but that does happen, more than you'd think. So in this case it was decided that the length plus the rough recording were not enough at this time. Remember that rejection and blacklisting aren't permanent, once a band releases new material they can be brought up for discussion again.

not that my opinion matters too much but it really sounds like they shed their metalcore and mathcore elements. Riffs abound on this one.

We will do an assessment. Though, admittedly, since it's only the first of two parts slated for release this year, I'd be tempted to wait until the second one is released before making any substantive judgment on it. But that's just a personal point of view. We'll still discuss this among staff.

Tried to submit a band "Ezov" but got it rejected due to the fact that someone else already submitted it. However, the submission was done citing an incorrect release (goes against the "official albums only" rule?), citing bandcamp as the official demo release and not the tape release by War Productions. Thus, the cited release is missing information (such as the B-side track information etc.).

Can this "inaccurate" submission be replaced with my submission, or is it better to go in an completely revise all the information in the accepted submission?

Firstly it is not an incorrect submission, bandcamp is perfectly acceptable here so long as everything else matches our criterion. As for your other question, no, we will not delete the other submission, these things happen from time to time. Please either fill out as much information as you can (with your rank) or flag a report with the correct information and sources.

When/why was Dissimulator from Washington blacklisted?

This is only a guess, but I'm willing to bet that they were blacklisted because they weren't considered "metal" enough. I know the band's music well, and it's not the style that's generally accepted here.

I was just looking for some info on Skyharbor (India/USA) on this site, but couldn't find a band page, which surprised me, as they have two full-lengths and a couple of singles out and a new release schedules this year. I searched the forums and found just one post regarding the band itself stating that it was blacklisted in 2013. Is that still valid? If so, why?

Blacklisted for being more -core than metal. I just listened to the EP and yeah, it is basically melodic metalcore/post-hardcore with occasional metal riffing and soloing.

Oh, okay. Well, there kind of is, but even though I haven't heard their first album yet, the style will probably be not too far off. I hadn't noticed this earlier, but I just found out that bands such as Periphery, Tesseract and Mnemic don't appear to be accepted, either. (Although The HAARP Machine seems to be fine?) I'm not a sub-genre connoisseur myself, but I'd highly question that "Djent" is even a real thing. On the other hand, judging by the posts I just found on related artists, I'd recommend the mods to rethink the meaning of the word "progressive" as in artists generally considered as "Progessive Metal". Going into the future, the genre will contain more bands than just Dream Theater and Symphony X. (This is not meant as an offense, but simply as another point of view.)

Since this is not my site after all, I guess I'll just have to get my info somewhere else, then. I suppose farewell for now, the best of luck with whatever you're trying to do.

I have noticed, that the Swiss band Rated X was deleted from the site and blacklisted, presumably for being hard rock. While it is true, that the first two albums were hard rock, the third one, named Words, was actually thrash metal in the style of Metallica and similar bands. was this taken in consideration? Wasn't quite expecting that! It's still has a lot of rock vibes, but it certainly warrants another listen. It was deleted long enough ago that we can just restore it, so, it's been white listed. Go ahead and resubmit and we'll reevaluate once it's in the queue.

Was Mindrippa (Australia) rejected solely because it only had a digital release that was less than 20 minutes in length, or were there other reasons? The rejection email was quite broad.

I removed it from the blacklist and someone else submitted it. It was then deemed to be too borderline, so it was put back on the blacklist.
