My question concerns record/cd mixing over the many years of the artform of sound quality/mixing quality. When did the artform really start to take of with regards to hi fidelity. Was it the 1970s? 80s? Or is it not possible to actually pin point when quality of sound actually became hi fi as opposed to mid fi? Does my question even make sense? And if it is possible to know when hi fi became a reality in what decade did it become an actual reality? And if it is possible to know how much better for example how much of an improvement was there from say 1970 to 1980? Or 1980 to 1990? I know I have been rambling on more than anything but I am very curious about this.

multi-tracking, then digital recording and editing, then DAWs that enabled you to make records at home...

try googling those, if you want a detailed reply it'd take 5-6 pages :)
