Take George Carlin's advice on how to get out of jury duty:

When the judge asks you why you think you'd make a good juror, tell him you'd be great because you can spot guilty people *be sure to snap your fingers or gesture while clicking your tongue* just like that!

I, uh, don't think George Carlin's advice should be taken realistically

I wonder how many people have actually tried that George Carlin bit; or if the judge is a fan of him.

Sad but true: I've seen several people posit Carlin routines as their rational for advancing various lines in many political discussions. When did comedy routines because a source of prefabricated political analysis for use in serious debate?

I wish I knew people here who could quote Carlin... Even in political discussion.

Thinking of adding promo copies to my collection on MA, is that cheating? :)

I don't count promos as part of my collection, personally. If you write 'promo' in the description slot then it isn't cheating

Ah jury duty. I will say as a lawyer if I can tell that someone is really unhappy being there, there is no way in hell I will pick that person to be on my jury. I would be concerned that person would make the easiest decision they could and be very difficult to sway. As a criminal defense attorney, the easiest thing a juror could decide is that the defendant is guilty. I know damn well most potential jurors come there already thinking the defendant is guilty based on being charged with a crime. It is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but that is not realistic at all.

Well, George Carlin does a good job of giving voice to the frustrations a lot of people have with the American capitalist system and associated politics. However he obviously isn't trying to make logical arguments, and people who present them as such are dumbasses.

$15? Where the fuck do you live. That's worth a dollar, tops. Even without the water damage.

It happens in watertown TN, but yeah it's mostly huge ripoffs like that, they claim since it's old that it's collectors edition or antique, but its a solid stream of bullshit. Of course I only paid 10$ for my record player (still in box) so you can still make like a bandit every now and then.

The real dumbasses are the ones who keep on electing jokes, after it's apparent their whole party shouldn't be trusted to manage a Village Fete, let alone a country ever again.

If it's a misprint or something yeah, I can understand it being that much. Usually popular albums such as that one are super cheap on cassettes.

It's like all those people on these forums who say things like: "yeah man, I have the first LP pressing of Judas Priest or Iron Maiden from 197X! It's gotta be worth a lot!" and not realize that they printed like 500k of those things....

Well, those "Vertigo swirl" pressings of 1970s Black Sabbath albums (the first 6, anyway) go for a lot of money. Besides, the metal stock market has never been governed by logic.

I'm pretty sure my copy of Drunemeton is an origional and I've seen those on ebay up to $60 once, but that's the only rarity in my collection. I'm sure my copy of Tahoma by Alda will be worth a bit in a decade or so.

I've been listening to a lot of Suffer lately as well, but I rarely go a month without a few day long binge on some era of Bad Religion. I love that band more than my children.

BH has secret children, probably hidden in his basement, they're naked and they're teached to worship Running Wild. Discussions about Shadowmaker are a no no.

Shadowmaker is better than Rogues en Vogue, and is really no worse than The Brotherhood. Come at me!

I remember hearing Codex Necro when it first came out, and thought of it as more a novelty than anything else.

BUT HOLY BALLS. THIS ALBUM. T'is quite good.

I'm debating whether or not I should get a cheap tattoo gun. Would getting a $50 one be worth it?

And yeah. Codex Necro rules. Oh and uh listening to that on certain illicit substances induces nightmares just for the record.

Aye, I think the first time I heard it I was only into really underground black metal, and anything with a production was too much for me (some perspective, I thought Legion of Doom was overproduced, as was Judas Iscariot) but now, as a fan of noise and industrial, the hellish digital effects blend perfectly with the black metal attitude.

I just heard it the other day for the first time, too. Oh man, it's really insane. And the songwriting underneath all the chaos actually seems quite dynamic and sharp. I think I'll have to give it some more listens before I really see every little thing it's doing. This kind of BM, this industrialized, modern take on it, is really becoming my favorite sort of style - though I'm still rarely in the mood and haven't started checking out bands en masse. But I like to take it slow.

Britain sends billions of pounds overseas in aid, at a time when services here are being cut. Almost daily the news features stories of people receiving inadequate care and treatment, sometimes resulting in them dying prematurely.

We are then told much of the money is lost to corruption, ending up being used to suppress the very people it's supposed to help (and provides weapons for civil wars).

Does anyone here know anything about this?

So, as I arrived at the Opera House last night for the Grave show I find out my pre-purchased ticket is no longer any good. Why? Since Morbid Angel dropped off the bill, due to not being able to make it across the border, Ticketmaster decided to make all pre-paid tickets null and worthless. I find out that I need to pay $20 to get inside since my ticket is no longer any good. The doorman told me I had to get a refund from the point of purchase... and they decided to announce all this last minute, on the day of the show. They didn't even bother offering to honour my ticket and let me in anyway. From the most sincere depths of my being, Intertia Entertainment, please get fucked in the hardest way possible. That was the last time I'll ever support your already notoriously shitty company with its backwards and underhanded business practices/ethics.
