just curious if anyone else here is into this sort of a thing. What programs do you like to use, what kind of things do you like to model, what do you use your models for, ect.

I started with google sketchup in 6th grade, and moved into wings 3d. I started taking things seriously in my freshman year of highschool and started to use Blender, and since then iv come a long way. I usually model low poly models as if intended for games, some get used, some dont, but i have done a few good renders too. Here are some of my works.

A basic low poly Male model, done recently, not uv mapped, and still rigging

My current wip, a gears of war style character, base mesh is pretty much done, head is separate and may be replaced, external parts, uv mapping, and rigging are to come

I've played around with basic AutoCad 3-D, but that's just the out of the box stuff; there are so many specialized extensions and add-ons (such as architectural desktop, Revit, etc.) that are much easier and better to use for this. It's one of those things I have always wanted to get more into. Can those objects you create be exported and brought into AutoCad .dwg files?

blender is 100% open source, and you can find a plugin for almost any format imaginable. iv found a link for that format, though it is for an older version of blender, it should still work, if you are interested.

Back when I was knee-deep in this stuff, I could never get the hang of Blender, or the more simplified Milkshape. Finally felt most comfortable with 3ds Max, modding games like Oblivion and Resident Evil 4.

I have a book about 3d studio max for reference, it seems pretty simple, though I tried gmax a while ago, and it was a little scattered for me.

I use Maya and Softimage regularly for animating, never got the hang of 3ds max. Not yet, anyway.

I had too much free time during high school so I played around in 3ds max a lot and Valve Hammer Editor (made some shitty maps for CS1.6). Since the uni I don't really use them (the relatively few spare time goes for studying, friends and metal).
