I tried getting into Breaking Bad, and I just couldn't follow it from the beginning, I guess it's something you have to watch from the beginning to understand it.

Wait, you watched it from the beginning, but then discovered that you'd have to watch it from the beginning to follow the plot, because you couldn't follow the plot?

Anyway, I'll never get why anyone would want to start watching plot/story arc-based series like that from any other point than the beginning. Do you start reading a book on page 100?

Breaking Bad is the best recent series there is, by the way. That's one of the few absolutes I can always confidently proclaim to humankind.

EDIT: Ah, you meant that beginning.

Yeah i'd tend to agree there. Definitely the Best drama on TV at the moment. Sopranos and Wire are finished, but it's definitely pretty high up there with them anyways - great show. So original, excellently acted - and some quite cool editing, plot developments and characters. Hoping this season comes on strong - don't want them to have run out of steam already.

By the way Jane Margolis (Krysten Ritter) is stunningly cute in that show.

Just testing the waters on this one - any Joss Whedon fans here? I saw Dollhouse pop up earlier.

Whether it's Buffy, Angel, Firefly or any of his other shows, I just connect with his character-based stories immediately.
Dollhouse is just a great setting all-round. Soooooo many possibilities.

Firefly is amazing, of course. As is Serenity.

Dollhouse was fun as well, but not as consistently watchable for me. It felt very rushed at the end, but that's not really its fault, naturally. Great stuff though, the series had potential. One thing that I'll always recall is Enver Gjokaj's acting when portraying Topher Brink's personality. That was so good and spot-on it was downright uncanny.

I never watched Buffy or Angel, strangely.

^Hell yeah, Firefly is one of the best shows ever on television. I also think Dr. Horrible's sing-along-blog should be on broadway and/or a feature length film.

I've had Firefly on my TV drive for years, and really wanted to like it, but i just couldn't get into it at all. (Sorry Morrigan!) The episodes i watched seemed to center around stuff like a woman being high class escort - and the various courtship formalities and stuff, and another girl wishing she could have a fancy dress - i just didn't get into these stories at all - not the kind of thing that takes my interest. Definitely not dark enough for me, and perhaps not phallocentric enough ;) I will give it another try, but really i don't think it's my cup of tea. Just sayin'

I loved Firefly because it created really memorable characters and had some cool as fuck episodes - the series hits a groove around episode 6 or 7 or so that lasts for a few episodes and is just amazing TV in general. DRD, most episodes really aren't like that all the way through. A few of them, yes, but a lot of them are just really solid, creative sci-fi stuff. There's plenty of masculinity in there for a majority of the episodes.

Buffy and Angel are pretty much their own category of drama and scope. Angel especially is like a soap opera on hyper-drive; completely over the top, super-dramatic, dark and weird to the max. Really tragic and epic. Buffy is more well rounded and just a good mix of comedy, action, drama, etc. Just a good show with some unforgettable characters and stories, although the name is a little silly (but then, that's what Whedon was going for; a very campy, corny feel to the earliest material). Great stuff - Dr. Horrible too, which is just priceless. Whedon hasn't failed me yet.

As for other TV...well I'm really interested in watching Breaking Bad, as I haven't heard any bad comments at all. My expectations are very high for this!

Walter White deserves your undying love and respect. Seriously though, Breaking Bad stands on it's own for me. Nothing to really compare it to because there really is nothing like it. The farther you delve into this show and it's characters the more addictive it becomes. The lyrical imagery in the show is beautifully done. At times there is a very creepy/sinister atmoshpere about it. Lots of clever forshadowing and very sharp dialogue. The continuity of the show was kinda fucked up in the first season due to the writer's strike but everything is pretty much back on track.

Definitely forshadowing. Amazing episodic and season story arcs. While i rate this show up there with Sopranos and The Wire, Breaking Bad really is nothing like them - utterly original (as are they), but just so different. The story instantly hooks you in, leaving you wanting more! The cliffhanger at the end of season 3 still has me by the balls and i can't wait to jump into the world of the ABQ with the next season.

I prefer shows like

food shows / travel: Bizarre Foods, Man v Food, No Reservations

collector shows: American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Storage Wars,

educational shows: anything Modern Marvels on History Channel, to catch a predator specials (hilarious when they get caught!!!!)

comedy shows: Family Guy, most shows on Adult Swim, Tosh.0, etc .....

classic TV: Cheers, Taxi, Hawaii 5-0 (bad acting, but good plots), King of Queens

news: Foxnews (at times the OReilly factor when there is big news happening, but most of the time he tends to be full of himself)...can't stand MSNBC for their pro Obama stance!!!!

Man Vs. Food rules, but man - i can't watch that show unless i'm sitting down to eat - it just makes my appetite run wild. I need to visit some of these places. That show is a tribute to American gluttony and not giving a fuck. Great show, very fun. The presenter - Adam - is a bit of an unfunny dick, but at least he's more lively than the boring pasty Canadians on Food Jammers - a decent food show. Yeah i have No Reservations and his other show too - very cool show. I have this other show called Feasting on Asphalt which is pretty cool - just one season though.

History Channel and Modern Marvels are cool, but i prefer National Geographic on the whole. I'm not really into any of the other stuff you mentioned. I wouldn't mind checking out Taxi with Danny De Vito - coz i've always been a fan.

Oh - and for those of you unfamiliar with Man Vs. Food, it's definitely worth checking out:

^ A friend of mine a couple years ago mentioned MVF - so i copied all the episodes and have been following ever since. Cool show, with essentially limitless possibilities. I havent heard of Bizarre Foods - no, but i'll check with a friend of mine - see if he's got it. He's a huge food TV nerd, so it's likely he's at least heard of it.

There's been some monstrous challenges on that show. I like the first part of each episode where he goes to local places with huge and amazing - but more realistically eatable dishes. Some amazing stuffed sandwiches and Southern BBQ - shit looks amazing. A couple of the challenges i honestly reckon i'd have a chance at - not 90% of them though - shit's crazy.

I've seen a few episodes of Man Vs. Food and I do like the concept. Some of those challenges look really difficult, and I doubt I could ever complete them (as much as I'd love to try :P).

I like all the little orgasmic faces and motions he goes through when he's biting into the food for the first time. He talks about food the way most people talk about sex.

That's pretty common in those food/travel/advertisement type shows (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and No Reservations come to mind).

The episode of No Reservations in Iceland was hilarious. Well i think there was two - one behind the scenes - total clusterfuck. Bourdain hated every minute of it. That fermented shark and sheeps head. pretty shitty cuisine right there. I know some people who have tried the shark, too. Awful. I need to get the newer episodes of that show, i only have a bunch of older ones.

I don't watch a lot of t.v. anymore, some of my old favorites were Buffy, Angel, and the Simpsons. I haven't kept up with South Park in a long time. My favorite shows right now are Law & Order and their various spin-offs.

I really enjoy MvF, but if all american food looks like that I don't think I'd be able to eat there, even the non challenge meals seem to be buried under a giant mess of fake cheese and huge doses of nauseating looking sauces. Not very much respect given to the actual main ingredients. Oh well, entertaining show.

Buffy is still Joss's pinnacle. It started as a fantasy teenage show, but by season 2, it turned into one of the most deeply heartfelt and emotional shows ever. Episodes where her mom dies, or any of the principle characters die were always treated with such quality. The end of that show was as epic as TV can get. And Spike is one of the greatest vampires ever.

Angel, on the other hand, was just a powerhouse story with characters that rocked hard (READ: Fred). It's so sad that (much like most of his shows) it was cancelled before it could be finished properly. Along with the end of the Sopranos, one of my most frustrating endings.

And Dr. Horrible is so original and funny. Neil Patrick Harris is so very under-rated. It needs to be expanded upon.

If Buffy's last 2 seasons hadn't been such a step down I might agree, but as it is, all of Whedon's shows are about on a similar plane for me. Angel might just be my favorite right now, but that's because it's the most recent one I've seen. Seasons 3-4 as a story arc were just fucking insane, and season 5 was really good, too. Fuckin' Whedon, man.

hahaha, watching an hilarious show right now, seriously. I watch quite a bit of military/history documentaries and sometimes (lol) docu-tainment shows. Right now i'm watching some episodes of this show Deadliest Warrior - it's a ridiculous show on Spike TV. Basically it pits two historical warriors against each other (for example this episode is Knight vs. Pirate - LOL), and attempts a series of "scientific" tests and "proves" which one would win in a match up. Complete with plentiful cheesy re-enactment footage, and lots of human ballistics models and pig carcasses being torn to shreds (a la Mythbusters) It's completely ridiculous - so much so that it's entertaining genuinely. I have most of the episodes.

Are there any upcoming new shows you guys are looking forward to this fall season?

I'm curious to check out two new Fox shows: Terra Nova, and the animated version of Napoleon Dynamite. The trailer for Terra Nova looked like they were putting a ton of work into it, more like a movie than a television series, and it could turn out to be a pretty cool sci-fi series. I thought Napoleon Dynamite film was pretty funny and enjoyable when I first saw it (though tons of idiots repeating the lines from it for the next year turned me off of it). The trailer for the show didn't make it look great, but I'll wait and see how it turns out. At the very least, I imagine it'll be better than any of Seth MacFarlane's shows.

......another show that must be watched: Spike TV's "1000 ways to die" .... excellent dramatizations of every possible death scenario. The narrator is witty with his comments and story telling as well. The computer graphics of the death scenes are somewhat disturbing at times, but very well explained.

This new episode of South Park has gotta be the best one this season, but seriously, what the hell just happened? What a cliffhanger.

Yeah, I thought it was really well done. Definitely the end of the series coming up. Hope we see Randy at least one more time, he was always my favourite character. Best episode for a long time.

When I saw the preview, I thought it was just going to be an episode that mocked pop music with Randy as the focus, but all of the references to Matt and Trey not enjoying the show anymore completely threw me off. Looks like this will be the last season, and they're taking the show in a very different direction.

Just watched it on their site. Really depressing. But it piqued my interest...be interesting to see what happens next.

I definitely think the last couple episodes have been the best. The first few had a bit of promise, but came across rushed/din't capitalise on the current events they were parodying etc. It's fine when they lampoon one of these stories/current events or whatever - and get it right, but i think these days they may tend to attempt it because people have comne to expect it from them - they "go there" a bit too often -at the price of a good, crass story which the season 7-13 period exemplified best. Those current affairs episodes are written over a very shoert time span, and rushed through - and i think that more recently this has been to the detriment of quality. They should go back to making the majority of the episodes not based on that stuff, and flesh out the jokes and plot really well writing about non-topical stuff in my opinion. Anyway, yeah the "this music/movie is crap" concept tying was funny - but it definitely felt a bit easy and repetitive - not their smartest satire anyway - the episode didn't really go anywhere besides that joke and of course - the plot with Randy/Sharon splitting - which is a pretty big deal. In the land of South Park, we probably havent seen anything that permanent/important to continuity since Kenny officialy "died" then stopped dying and became a regular character.
