That specific scenario, maybe not. But we know for damn sure that there are proven cases of police and entire departments inventing heinous things to get money. I figured it was their fun take on that issue. I agree it probably wasn't in line with the ultra realistic tone that the rest of the show had, but it wasn't so absurd to me that I thought it did not belong at all. We can all agree that The Wire is the best cop show ever, though.

Oh no doubt. What's sad is that it ended nearly 10 years ago and it's still basically untouched.

Last night, I watched the first episode of their (the makers of The Wiere) new one, The Deuce. I've always found the sleazy 70's interesting, and while the pilot movie set up a shitload of characters and plot points, it looks like it might be pretty good.

I watched the pilot yesterday. You're right that there's a lot of characters and plots, none really central, but that seems fine (and hardly new based on what little The Wire and Treme I've seen). It didn't feel overlong and every narrative had something to offer, a well done start with good performances all around (Gyllenhaal in particular).

I've been watching it every week, it's decent. No Wire but not bad.

the Inhumans adaptation thus far has been pretty good. It is somewhat corny how they stick to their names, but for the most part, Marvel has brought Kirby's royal family into the 21st century. Given the subject matter they are drawing from, a television show definitely makes for a better medium than the movie they kept pushing down the line.

Honestly, I thought the whole Hamsterdam plot in season 3 was way more far-fetched than the serial killer one. But I loved Bunny Colvin, so I could stomach it.

I started watching Mindhunter the other night. It's been pretty good so far, and the acting is excellent. Anyone who has an interest in true crime or psychology should check it out.

I just watched all of it a couple nights ago, it's extremely cool. The car scenes are total True Detective tributes lol.

After watching the season 8 premier of The Walking Dead, it truly feels like they aren't even trying anymore. Weak all around and I know for a fact that after seven seasons the show can do better than this.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

And I'm really hoping that my opinion will change for the better as the season goes on.

No reason to, everything isn't meant for everyone. I dislike a ton of shit people seem to love and vice-versa, there are no obligations in taste. To me the show has been mostly great during its entire run, with fluctuations of course like almost any show has. Plenty of people seem to disagree with that as well as agree with it.

Watched Walking Dead season 8 opener. It was good overall, but...it's the season opener. Also, it was the 100th episode. Their season openers are usually pretty good, just like their season finales and two mid-season episodes, and the anniversary meant they pretty much had to go for it. The test is how the next 6 episodes go.

Only particular complaint I have for this episode is that there were too many rallying-the-troops sermons.

7 episodes in, and I think I might like it even better than S1.

I watched the first two episodes last night. This is good so far. The nightmares/visions or whatever are actually creepier than anything in the first season.

House of Cards has been canceled, which I consider to be a victory for TV as the last season was terrible.

Apparently it wasn't because of the Spacey assault stuff and was already planned to end with season 6, but I guess the news about Spacey made it pertinent to reveal this now.

Finished Stranger Things 2 tonight, and it definitely lives up to the first season. Easily one of my favorite shows of all time, up there with True Detective, Twin Peaks, etc. Just a phenomenal show in all respects.

I finished watching Wanted, which is an Australian show about two women who are framed for murder by crooked cops. It was alright, I guess. There's nothing really that profound about it, but the Aussie/cultural element makes it interesting.

I watched all of Mindhunter last week. Fucking amazing show. Tonight, I think I'll start on True Detective.

The last season was indeed not very good and I think that this is the 100% right decision. They have created such a labyrinth of a story and it felt that the last one was just complicating things further and oftentimes did so in a really half-baked way. That was a clear dead end. However, if there is anything I have faith in, it is the fact that when the whole story comes to an end as things will become more resolved rather than complicated, things will improve dramatically and the whole series will go out with a huge bang.

Yeah, I barely even paid attention to the last HoC season. It gradually turned from actively watching it into background noise while I was doing something else on my computer.

I agree that it surpasses S1. Really awesome stuff. The thing I particularly love about it is that the obvious 80s movie/pop culture homage stuff notwithstanding it feels so much like its own thing. Plotting, characters, soundtrack, atmosphere, everything's top notch.

ST2: Great, binge watched the fuck out of it. Not the greatest show ever but damn it pushes all the right buttons.

Dirk Gently: Like it a lot.

Mr. Robot: Still watching with interest. Love its character.

Begun watching Outlander as I like the Scots (!) but it turns out it's a mix between the actual story (World War II nurse goes back in time in late 1700s, stuff happens) and some softcore porn, which feels more enforced than the gratuitous Game of Throne sex scenes and become really annoying after a while. Still, Scottish accents and all and we kinda stuck it out so we keep watching. Would not recommend it.

The number of plot contrivances, random character deaths, illogical decisions and unclear motives they've woven into the labyrinth of a story as you said, has made it basically unbearable. Pretty much every decision made is super cliche, contrived hack-work.

Stranger Things 2 was great, yeah. It deserves to be as popular as it is because they're just that good at creating entertainment - it's funny, dramatic, scary, a bit of everything. Super well-written characters. I was thinking it was better than the first season too, but after the last few episodes I'll go with on-par with the first season.

Spoiler: show
It ended a bit too clean and wrapped up neat for me - though honestly, I guess the first season's cliffhanger sort of necessitated this. Like a lot of sequels, this took what the first one did and expanded on it while keeping the same tropes. I just hope we get a bit more risks taken next season's finale - this one felt slightly cliche with Eleven closing the gate, everyone going to the prom, etc. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.

I hope Will Byers gets a chance to really be a character next year. He deserves to not be possessed or missing.

The two new characters, Billy and Max, were very odd and I was unsure what purpose they served. Be interesting to see how they're woven into the story next year.

ST2: Ι liked the ending, probably THE most 80s ending ever. I like how they play with all the cliches :)

Yeah I hope they flesh out Max and her jerkass brother a bit more in the next season. Right now they didn't really add to the plot much, but I still enjoyed the characters and their interactions with the rest of the cast, especially Max.

Spoiler: show
Poor Max kept getting treated like shit by everyone for no reason. Eleven needs to apologize to Max, dammit!

I don't get everyone's problem with this one.

Spoiler: show
Not the greatest episode, no - it may have been better if they split up the story and interspersed it with the other episodes. And the whole 'find your inner anger and channel that' stuff was slightly too cheesy even for this show. But I just wouldn't go so far as to call it shit. I liked the Kali character and they were clearly just setting up for more next season, so I didn't have a terribly big problem with it.

Yeah, episode 7 was good. Honestly, on first play-through I think the first episode is the weakest. Great season overall any way you look at it. Billy was the only weak spot for me.

Spoiler: show

The first part of your spoiler is how they should've done it. Instead, we get one of the most intense endings of an episode the series has done followed up by a 40-minute side quest. Worst part is that it serves as nothing but a set up for future seasons and that's my biggest issue.

Spoiler: show
Of course there were more experiments. Jane's number 11. That means 10 came prior. Now, though, it looks like we're stuck with Psychic Punk Vigilante Squad, a superhero nod in an age where superhero stories are a dime a dozen, and the set up for future installments is a personal gripe of mine after years of shit sequels upon shit sequels to every franchise worth a damn.

There was a finality to S1 that, even with further seasons announced, still felt legitimate. S2's introduction of new characters who do nothing of real note only to promise they'll mean something down the line cheapens it to me.

You thought season 1 had a finality to it? I thought it had quite a few more loose threads than this season.
