I used to love a band in MI called Summer Dying. I don’t know what happened to them.

Hrizg is probably the biggest name around here, though some other bands like Crystalmoors an Karonte are also absolute gems.

Danko Jones is a pretty good hard-rocker from my city. I have one shirt from him that depicts Godzilla destroying Toronto. Awesome shirt for a band that makes some awesome music.

Here in Tangier, Morocco, we have a band called Taqbir. They're not metal and 99% of our metal bands are garbage but they're punk rock music. Their EP is very solid and I highly recommend it to those who listen to punk rock.

If this question can include hometown and not just where you live currently, Pig Destroyer and Deceased are both around a 30 minute drive from the area where I grew up.

Metal bands in Boise come and go over the years, but as far as currently active ones: The two I would mention are By Fire and Sword (epic/power metal, but with a unique sound) and Ghorot (doom/death metal.) There are a few other mediocre metalcore type bands but none of them really stand out to be worth a special mention.

In the past decades, pre-2020 and earlier, we had: Midline, XeX, Uzala, Question Authority, Ripchain, Heibarger, Drawing Flies, Conscious, Brawl, Black Tooth Grin, Septic Death, Hummingbird of Death, Damarus, and a host of others I can't think of right now, and most, if not all, of these bands are in various state of defunct-itude. Septic Death, while not being strictly a metal band per se, were nonetheless one of the pioneering underground bands in terms of brutally hyperfast thrash (So I mentioned them.)

(Edit/update) A couple more sadly defunct acts I should mention are Vexengine, and the various incarnations of the Blake Green/Brittany McConnell band (Gods Angry Youth, Pussygutt, and it's final incarnation as Wolvserpent.) The last one was among the best known Boise bands among the underground, for their unique take on ambient, droning shoegaze black doom metal.

SW Ontario here, good to see a couple of folks on here from my turf already. come out to shows and say hi

If you include the GTA there's more than I could even count. Razor, Sacrifice, Tomb Mold, Adversarial, Thantifaxath...tons of super well known and well regarded stuff both old and new. I guess I'll just rail off a handful of my personal favorites:

Nachtlich - 90s style raw black metal (that actually recreates the vibe)
Gutvoid - churning, atmospheric OSDM
Last Retch - groovy ass chainsaw riffing, mega Entombed vibes
Ethereal Tomb - sludgy, doomy hardcore with Indigenous themes
Mutherload - melodeath/groove that transcends the confines of the style
Nepenthe - elegant atmospheric black/doom, lots of Agalloch/Woods of Ypres vibes
Aepoch - adventurous, narrative prog death metal
Mors Verum - nasty blackened disssodeath

Holy shit, yes. "Final Day" is such an epic, daunting song. I remember first hearing the demo back in 2001 and being blown away.

Quebec City and we have a handful of black metal bands mostly and some death metal, thrash and hardcore too.

Most well known would be : Sorcier des Glaces, Monarque, Outre-Tombe, Cantique Lépreux, Forteresse, Saccage, Riotor, Soothsayer, Get the Shot

From my silly little home tome of about 50.000 people, I'll mention these guys:

Nakkeknaekker, young guys playing death metal. Hitting a lot of major European festivals these days. They haven't released any albums yet, but I assume it's coming.

Fordærv, cool grindcore/crust trio. New album on the horizon soon.

Disrule (RIP), great Fu Manchu stoner rock.

There's also Uddød if you're into sludgy doomy stuff. Or Bloodgutter if you like Obituary-esque death metal. Or Dawn of Demise if you like Suffocation.

I also lived in Edmonton for about 10 years on and off. So A.M.SG... “anti - cosmic” black metal , buddy can actually shred which is refreshing for black metal. They keep having drummer changes, one of their drummers committed suicide, he was a friend of mine.
Revenge... I liked helmkamps vocals in the band but in my opinion that last one was actually on another level without him.
Axis of advance- pretty amazing band you can tell every member is pushing their skill level, I don’t know if you like it if you expected shred however, that they’re actually trying to and actually going into unexplored territory is the point, I’d say their debut was the best one
Dire omen was a good death metal band
Disciples of power- unfortunately the singer lost his sanity and y’know losing the guitar player that was on the debut crippled the band in my opinion the lead guitar was that good on the debut.
Rites of thy degringolade - really good band in my opinion, I found their album they released in 2018 to be their best yet aside from totality, I find the guitar better on the earlier stuff however the more stripped down approach of the last one reminded me what I liked about dispirit when they started out
Black Death cult- long songs that occasionally climax in violent” ways, phycadelic
Sect pig- well I didn’t care for them, but edmonton right
Weapon, draconian paradigm was really good, the turn from straight satanism made many say the main song writer should have stayed on the drugs.
Svoldier- anti Islamic black metal , had beers with the guy a few times, honestly I think it’s that he likes Canada more so than specifically hates Islam but anyway
Hard to pick a favorite, but it was a cool city to live in if you liked war metal” of course when I was out there was when the Noctis valkyries festival was still going on in Calagary which was like some kind of fantasy

The only band that comes to mind from Cleveland I really dig would be Ringworm and to a lesser extent Chimaira. We also have Integrity who have apparently relocated, and Mushroomhead

Edit: Oversight on my part - forgot to mention Nunslaughter. Hells headbangers is just a short skip away from where I live. There are a handful of other bands in that circle, Crucified Mortals comes to mind.

You've got Nekrofilth too! At least they started in Cleveland, I think they're located in Portland now.
