I'd say this is probably the biggest heap of badassery known to humanity (aside from Bloodbath of course). I've got a Chaos Space Marine (Word Bearer) army around 1500 points and growing.

Talk about armies, rules, modelling/painting, fluff and anything else I may have forgot. Oh and if you've got a Chaos army post pictures, I'm always looking for inspiration.

I'm also running a Word Bearers army...and a pretty big Dark Angels one. Around 2500 pts each give or take.

Ah, another Warhammer thread!

Yeah, I'm a huge Warhammer nut and have been since about ten years ago. I probably prefer the original fantasy game, but I play and love both settings. My current 40K project is a Tyranid swarm, and my current fantasy one is a Vampire Counts army, but I've collected tons of different armies in my time.

I love the background fiction detailing the 40k universe. It's a brilliantly realised, dark mythology.

If only I could be bothered doing anything other than reading about it.

Yup, have a Chaos Space Marine Black Legion army, and am currently about to get started on a Tyranid one. Need to buy the new rulebook though, its been a while and I need to get back into the game!

I've never gotten into this, but I like to see some of the amazing modeling that some people are capable of. I saw some pictures of winners from some contest and they were quite amazing. I really like the designs for the marines and such, if there were novels about this stuff I would probably get into it :P

I used to play 40k some years ago, as well as Fantasy Battles. I played the Tauin 40k and had some thoughts about starting collecting Eldar as well but unfortunately I had to stop due to lack of time and most of all money.

I still love everything connected to Warhammer though and everytime I stumble across it somehow I get a desire to start again. So curse you for starting this thread! :p

Wow, I used to be into warhammer, last year. I stopped this year due to exams.

I really do think the prices are getting very high and GW really piss me off with some of the things they do, especially since one of my armies was dark eldar.

Just fantasy. Had a 2.5k point Empire Army. Started collecting when I was 11 and stopped 2 years later :( I sucked(horribly) at painting, but it was a nice hobby.

Wow, I may have to look into that. Have you ever read any of them?

There are actually shitloads of novels about both settings. Before anyone recommends them, I'd like to advise you avoid the -slayer series. They're not necessarily bad books, but they're very pulpy and they seem to miss the whole dark and gritty point of Warhammer.

The only ones I've read are the first two Space Wolf novels, both of which were great.

I used to have quite a few until the removal men lost them, ending my brief plastic figurine painting nerdy days.

Is WH a game like D&D or what? I always saw it as nerdy model-building hobby, but reading this thread sounds like I may have been mistaken.

It's actually sort of both. It's a tabeltop battle game. It has rules, but you have to collect your own army, customizing it to your own preference, assembling and painting the models for a personal touch.

I recommend the Horus Heresy series. Easily the best thing Black Library has churned out.

Dan Abnett, Graham McNeil and Ben Counter are Black Library's best writers. You'd be hard pressed to go wrong getting anything by them, but Eisenhorn, The Horus Heresy, Ultramarines Omnibus, The Grey Knights Omnibus are recommended wholeheartedly from myself.

I've read a few 40k novels and they were great. Actually, I've only heard good stuff about all of it!

I just bought the Grey Knights omnibus :) I haven't read any sci fi in a while so this should be fun.
