Yo, guys, this looks pretty interesting:

Apparently, it's a dark fantasy FPS. Colour me interested.

I must recommend Redout. It's a polished futuristic Racer like F-Zero GX, "Star Wars - Episode 1 Racer" and Wipeout with an intricate control scheme that uses two analog sticks and needs to be mastered in order to win.
A challenging, stunning looking racing game with an x-treeeeem sense of speed and an absolute must have for fans of the aforementioned games.
Now THIS is podracing!

I'm so glad I picked up Battlefield 4. It may be the only case of FPS multiplayer where I had no problem getting gunned down from behind because of how huge the maps are and how many hiding spots exist.

You shouldn't have called it "podracing"! This post actually looks familiar, and I think I cringed both times at the podracing part. I just wasn't paying attention to racing games in general (no Burnout, my interest plummets, sadly), so it took me too long to notice this gem.

Late to the party, but I still got on-board.

Better late than never! I'm thankful to have a glut of old games to play through.

Speaking of which, Risk of Rain suddenly clicked for me. I ALMOST beat it with the Commando (or whatever, starting guy) but died on the final level. I had been playing for 45 minutes and the difficulty level was "HAHAHAHA" but I had so many upgrades and drones I felt invincible up until the moment I realized I was dead.

Super fun game. The Bandit is really fun, but the Enforcer takes a lot of nuance. Not so sure about that one. I'm curious how you unlock all these other characters. I have to give special mention to the soundtrack which is just KILLER! I left the game on pause for about 15 minutes yesterday after I died and my girl and I both sort of just did our own thing to those futuristic grooves. The game is very frantic but the music is extremely relaxing, and it forms a cool dichotomy.

Yeah, associating "good" and "star wars episode 1" is a bit of a hard sell and not good advertisement, I agree. However, this racing game was the only _excellent_ thing to result from episode 1. Assuming anyone still knows that is foolishness on my part however...

Psh, this guy going on about podracing. The best thing that EP1 gave us was Jedi Power Battles, one of the last hurrahs to the PS1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars ... er_Battles

Oh man, I thought I was the only one who remembered how awesome the Podracing game on N64 was.

Believe it, folks. Star Wars Episode 1 sucked, but man, that game was killer.

I recall quite a bit of high praise across the board for the Podracing game on the N64, but I was never a fan of it, myself. Futuristic racers like this tend to pass right by my attention most of the time, and after Nintendo basically shrugged off ever doing another F-Zero, I was kind of meh on the genre entirely. Miyamoto said he "doesn't see why anyone wants another F-Zero" and he thought the much-loved GameCube F-Zero GX was a bad game, somehow.

At any rate, correction aside, I'm loving Redout. Except for those cylindrical tunnel bits of tracks. Holy crap, I can't control the car in those at all.

Anyone played The Sexy Brutale? My brother just mailed me a copy. I was like, 'what the hell is this?' He told me not to judge it by its name, and that it was one of the best indies he played last year. I'll give it a crack!

Doki Doki Literature Club is nice. It's cute and pleasant. Sayori is best girl, and I enjoy hanging with her. It's a wonderful and cute little dating sim about writing beautiful poems and nothing else.

The mere concept of dating sim is unsettling.
I didn't found my girlfriend by answering questions, but with my snake-like gaze and unpredictable dance moves.

Furi is beyond awesome. It's unforgiving as hell, but i'm completely absorbed by the simple story and well designed bosses.
From The Hand onwards you really start to question if it's right to keep fighting :)

I recently played this the other day as well, I'm a bit of a fast reader so I had the whole thing put away in about ~2hrs but it's still sitting with me.

It's sort of like the videogame version of Audition, where it's obviously best to go in with absolutely blind but it's sort of impossible to do so. Like, you pick up Audition and immediately wonder "Huh, why is this sweet romantic drama directed by the Ichi the Killer guy and rated R or proudly advertised as unrated/uncut?", and you go grab Doki Doki Literature Club and immediately wonder "Huh, why is this cute dating sim tagged as 'psychological horror' on Steam and open with a disclaimer saying 'yo, shit goes down in this game so if you have anxiety you really shouldn't touch it with a barge pole'?" Both of them can only truly hit you blind if you have somebody else start the entire thing up for you and specifically tell you not to look into it, which just makes you suspicious anyway.

Still, the impact wasn't lessened on me. I had a vague idea that something was going to go off the rails, but it still took like ten turns further than I was expecting.
Spoiler: show
Like Audition, they both have a specific scene that just fucking smash cuts your entire universe into unending horrorworld, (Asami silently sitting and staring at a phone in a completely empty apartment in the film, the obvious one in the game) and it wasn't softened by the fact that I knew it was coming eventually in either case. For real, I was on edge for the entire span between the time Sayori started acting weird before the festival until end of the first act. That choice presented when she meets you outside your house when (in my case, Yuri) was leaving actually made me stand up and walk away from my computer going fuuuuuuck what do I do?? Then shit got real and I wound up with like a 45 minute long adrenaline rush. The three acts basically go cute > terrifying > rather clever but headspinning mindfuck. "Your name probably isn't even actually Shiki is it? You probably go by Mike or something." NOOOOOOOPE get Psycho Mantis the FUCK out of my moeshit harem you god damned demon.

But yes, I definitely recommend it. It's short, it's free, and it's very well done. But you're wrong, Sayori isn't best girl. Best girl is Monika.

Spoiler: show
Just Monika.

Nintendo reveals another pile of gimmicks: Behold the Labo.

I admire the creativity here, but dammit if I can't get past seeing just another pricey, unnecessary, Nintendo gimmick. More product from Nintendo intended to make quick cash while being shallow on the software front. I'm all too familiar with Nintendo's history with stuff like this. Another Balance Board, more Amiibo, another microphone for the N64 or GameCube. Another Super Scope or Power Pad or Wii Zapper, etc. Or Wii Music for that matter.

I get that it's for kids, which will no doubt be used to defend the shallow games spawned for this, but cardboard is not invincible, and kids are not un-destructive. And this is not cheap, retailing around $70-80.

Code Vein doesn't look very good. The idea of having to go around with an ever present AI escort doesn't elaborate on the Soulslike formula at all (you could achieve the same effect in the Soulsborne series just by summoning). Doesn't help that the AI itself doesn't seem very sharp. Plus, the art style is still a massive eye sore, and the gameplay doesn't seem interesting enough to compensate for it.

I dunno, I think I'll pass.

see i dont mind the art style i just worry there wont be enough variety(had similar concerns with the surge which were well founded concerns), summoning requires resources though however i am interested in the game but some of the designs dont look great and i have plenty of concerns about it but still interested just very cautious

I played The Last of Us Remastered and it was one of the best games I've ever played. The game's violent and intense. Other games I've been playing and enjoying but haven't beaten are: Deus Ex Mankind Divided (current focus), The Witcher 3, Tomb Raider (newest one), Uncharted 1-4, Batman Arkaham Knight, Dragon Age Inquisition, MGS5 (awesome but repetitive), and some others. I also just bought Bloodborn.

TLOU is one of the best games I ever played. Normally I play like 4 or 5 games alternating between them - 1 or 2 hours of one, 3 hours of another, 2 hours of a third, and so on - but TLOU was one of those games that left the disc tray only after I beat it. And the ending... just blew me away. Though Ellie breaking the stealth mechanics is annoying, the rest of the gameplay is neat.

Right now I'm on my second playthrough of ME Andromeda (yes, the game is good, especially after the animation fixing patches. Problem is, it's not excellent like the original trilogy), and on Chapter 12 of Wolfenstein: The New Order - which, by the way, is an awesome "old school" FPS, and just the other day I learned it takes into account all the stories of the previous games in the franchise.

I just couldn't get into The Last of Us. The gameplay segments seemed hollow "go from point A to point B to get to the next story sequence", and the constant spinning of the camera, looking at the floor for collectible things and upgrades game me motion sickness. Falling to yet another zombie story trope hampered things. I think they did that because they felt they needed to play to popular themes to sell the fucking thing. The story and characters were good, but I just couldn't get into the parts in between. It's a shame, because I really wanted to see where the story went.

Yeah TLOU did feel really scripted in that sense, and the game itself was *really* short. I got it with my PS4 and finished it the same day. I think it was about 5-6 hours all up? Of course I checked online and all the commentary was "oh it's not just about finishing the story! the fun in TLOU is setting the difficulty to hard and trying to find every last item!" - yeah, really? Guess I'll miss out on that "fun" hey.

Did y'all play on Easy or something? TLoU is a legit good game and there's many ways to play it which is nice.

Also, never thought I'd see waifu wars here. Not on my forum, folks. Nope nope nope.

SunhiLegend is a gif-making legend (originally on GAF and now on ResetEra). He's made tons of awesome ones for Bloodborne and Horizon Zero Dawn too. So much that Guerrilla Games invited him to their studio in the Netherlands to basically thank him for the awesome free publicity/trailer-like gifs he made with Horizon haha.

He posts regularly on Twitter. Check his "moments" for the gifs grouped by individual game.

I beat Dark Souls 3 the other day, and man, what a rush! I had a hell of a time with the princes, probably the second hardest boss for me in the game. The final boss was tough, but I got him in a few tries. I'm now on to NG+, and I've started a Pyromancer as well. I can already tell that's going to be a challenge, as I don't usually play a caster class.

I can already tell that's going to be a challenge, as I don't usually play a caster class.

Do you have, or have you played through the DLC's?

Not yet. I wanted to focus on the main game first, but I'll be going through the DLC on my NG+ playthrough!

Haha I see, well good luck with that! If you found The Princes and Champion Gundyr difficult, there is a quite a few challenging surprises in store for you in both Ariandel and The Dreg Heap/Ringed City - and that's not including the bosses!

Never made a dedicated pyromancy character myself, and probably never will. There is a chance I will be doing a straight up strength build with my very first DS3 character, who is already at NG+4 who I'll need to re-spec.

Too bad, man. I'm sorry to read that. Well, the story and background are very well scripted, IMO. The other dude up there said it took him like 6 hours to finish, I took 24 hours, playing on Normal, if I'm not mistaken. And I'm not one of those "collector" players, needing to leave no stone unturned looking for useless collectibles, I just go along with the level. But the stealth parts took me a VERY long time to beat, in order to be really undetected, hehe.

In any case, if you want to check the story and how it ends, try watching it on YouTube.

I got Evil Within 2 over the weekend for $20 and it's definitely worth the money I paid. I never finished the first, but the gameplay is a lot more open world this time even though I still struggle with the controls during combat.

Anyone play this?

Been playing some mid-2000s FPS this week.

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point - awesome, just like the original game. For some reason I had more fun with the combat this time, maybe because I had some experience from playing the original. There's so much impact in the combat; the aggressive AI, sliding/jumping melee attacks, a good, beefy shotgun, enemies go flying and sometimes just explode into pieces at random, grenades fuck the entire room up (usually filled with bottles/computer screens and physics objects, also sometimes affects the lighting in the room). I wish all FPS games were this juicy. The difficulty is strange; as a not particularly skilled player, I'm normally soaking bullets like a sponge but it's never a problem because of the ridiculous abundance of medkits. Always thought it was a weird decision to make the full-auto weapons unable to fire a single shot, they always fire in burst (or auto if you hold the trigger). Burst weapons are a pet peeve of mine I guess, but it becomes sort of comical when you discover that even the rocket launcher fires in bursts of threes. Looking forward to Perseus Mandate, which I've read is really just more of the same; I'm fine with that.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl - Only started playing this today and it hasn't really hooked me. It's quite dated and unpolished (playing the vanilla version) and something just feels off about almost every aspect of it, from the U.I. to the combat. Mildly disappointed that you can't map controls to mouse side buttons. I'll probably give it more time to see how it goes.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic - again, only played a little bit of this and I think I'm going to enjoy it. I was a big fan of Dishonered, and particularly the general feel of it, and this game appears to be the precursor to how the feel of Dishonhered was designed. Can't say much more because I'll need to actually play beyond the very start of it first.

With the Complete Edition fan mod (basically a comprehensive patch/bugfix), it's one of my favorite FPS's ever.

Yo, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is dope. I usually scoff at games that aim for such hard realism, but I wouldn't want this one any other way. Good shit.

Unrelated, but I started playing Guilty Gear Xrd with some friends. Not only is it a super fun and colourful fighting game, but I was surprised at just how absolutely fucking metal the soundtrack is. Seriously, it's got some seriously high octane, riffy as hell, straight up metal in there, plus some other themes that are more in the vein of super distorted hard rock, though not any less badass. Seriously, check it out:

SIX! BLACK! HEAVEN'S GUUUNS!
IT IS THE LAST MADNESS OOOOOOOF MEEEEEEMORYYYYY!

I don't even care about the Engrish. It's just too fun.

Daisuke Ishiwatari is so fucking metal he's one of only two (to my knowledge) game composers who has an MA page.

BlazBlue is an excellent series as well. It's a bit less goofy and not at all loaded with metal references like Guilty Gear is (and most of the characters are directly inspired by GG characters to the point where it's a wonder he even bothered making a separate series), but it's one of my favorites. I liken it to the split between Dark Souls and Bloodborne. BB is about timing and bursts and guard breaks, while GG is about going on the offensive so hard that it borders on suicidal.

The soundtrack is about equally as badass as well.

I'm digging the jazzy piano in that Gluttony Fang song. Mixes surprisingly well with the fucking raw guitars.

Man, this guy is awesome.

Damn, I can't believe Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is actually (supposedly) coming out next month!

The music in this clip I just watched sounds awesome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM-GclaRzKs
