Is the NFC much different though? It's an exciting season this year because there is so much parity across the league. Just when a team starts getting hot it seems like they find a way to lose. Definitely exciting for any fan of the sport.

Another historic night: Ottawa's Diontae Spencer smashed the pro football single-game record with 496 all-purpose yards; leading the Redblacks to a crazy-ass 41-36 win over Hamilton.

The win puts Ottawa atop the CFL East (pending Toronto's game next week) with a record of 8-9-1. Yeah... that's first place! However, no team has ever not won the Grey Cup after going 8-9-1. ;)

Anyone watching the Rugby League World Cup?

Apart from the Australia vs. England match, all the others have been disappointing blow-outs. Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and Fiji all dominated their opponents to where the games were over by half-time. I'm hoping the others will be of better quality.

Goddamnit, Skins. Even if you all don't win any other games, I'd settle for them beating Dallas twice.

Raiders offensive coordinator has to go. Game plans have been terrible all season, and failing to adjust and take advantage of a depleted Bills secondary has likely ended their playoff hopes.

The Arizona Cardinals have cancelled their planned workout of Colin Kaepernick. There are conflicting reports as to why the team has cancelled the workout session. One source has said the free agent quarterback failed to show up on time after he was refused service at the counter of a National Car Rental in Anthem, AZ where he was staying.
While team president Michael Bidwell claims he arrived late after attending a disabled athletes charity event funded by the Maricopa Prosthetics Clinic where he took a knee after being presented with one by Terry Fox.
In other news, the league office announced Jeff Gillooly and Shawn Eckhardt as chiefs of field security

S'pose I should pimp the Canadian Football League one last time for this year...
Last night's Grey Cup game was another all-time classic for the ages; though as a Redblacks' fan I can't say it beats last year's overtime epic that brought Ottawa's first championship in 40 years :)

Yesterday, the Calgary Stampeders were ahead of the Toronto Argonauts 24-16 with six minutes left, and looked ready to make it a two-score lead and finish it off - when the Argos forced a fumble on the 1yard line and took it all the way back. Game tied! Toronto would go ahead with an FG on their next drive, but the Stamps weren't done. In scoring position again, just 1:30 left, and the OT-forcing field goal... NEVER HAPPENED! Mitchell chucks up a pass to the end zone in double coverage and it's intercepted. :O

For fans of statistical oddity, this marks back-to-back years that the Grey Cup was won by a team with an even record or worse  In both cases, Ottawa and Toronto took down a massively favoured, far-and-away first place team from Calgary.

So what you're telling me is that Calgary is well on their way to becoming the next Buffalo, but even sadder? Beautiful!

With the Giants announcing some combination of Geno Smith and Davis Webb starting at QB this week, the Raiders (somehow) have a very plausible path to the playoffs. Their remaining games are against the tanking Giants, the suddenly terrible Cowboys and Chiefs, the Chargers, and an Eagles team that could conceivably have nothing to play for in week 16.

Hmmm that is appealing! I've never bought into the Chiefs as a division champion calibre team; and you're right that everyone else in that list is either dreadful, too far ahead to care, or have really dug into their ass-useless pills at the wrong time. As usual though, the Chargers are completely unpredictable so they might jigger things for Oakland.

Both the Chiefs and the Cowboys have some serious rising stars (Hill, Hunt, Prescott) and should be winning more, but they've both also completely lost control of their offensive lines. I don't think Smith had more than two unhurried seconds in the pocket at a time for the entire game against Buffalo. Dak's been dealing with the same. Doesn't matter how many great rushers or receivers you have if the other team completely controls your play calling. This has become a very painful season. :(

The Chargers are weird, but I fully expect them to lose to the Browns this weekend. They haven't beaten the Browns by more than 1 score since 2004, and have lost 2 of the last 3 to them!

The Chargers have been looking like the best team in the AFC West for quite a while now, not that they have had a lot of competition. If it weren't for their terrible start to the season, I think they would easily win the division.

Separately, I have Dak and Alex Smith in my two-quarterback fantasy league and its crazy to think that through week 7 they were both top 5 in fantasy points. Now, I'm considering putting Blaine Gabbert in...

Vontaze Burfict got absolutely CRUSHED. He's a dirty player without a doubt, but this is awful. https://www.clippituser.tv/c/rvmgvg

If it had been anyone else I would feel bad, but Burfict is notorious for dirty hits, constant shit-talking, taunting, showboating, etc., and sometimes you reap what you sow. Smith-Schuster is only 21 and currently the youngest player in the entire NFL, so it's not surprising that he's not mature enough to keep his cool against that kind of behavior. I won't defend that kind of hit and I won't defend the taunting afterwards, but Burfict is far from innocent and doesn't deserve anyone's sympathy.

On one hand, FSM has hometown bias in this instance.

On the other hand, I wouldn't ever advocate cheap shots or initially injuring players, but if there's ANYBODY I'm willing to turn the other way on when he gets blasted in the face, it's Burfict.

Fucking Raiders. Even after everything, they come into the game tied for the division lead. They've gotten all the help in the world, including Marcus Peters being suspended for the game, and they absolutely shit all over themselves. It's only halftime, but not for one minute have they looked like they're actually in this game.

This is about the infamous Laurent Ciman trade.

Some administrators seem to have the strategy to exploit their best human resources until they are completelty drained just to drop or exchange them as soon as they aren't considered valuable enough anymore. In most cases, those inhuman and purely bureaucratical decisions are just as despicable as they're wrong.

Remember Montreal Canadien's Patrick Roy, undoubtedly one of the best goaltenders in the history of the NHL. He might have had a difficult personality but he was respected among most teammates, adored by numerous fans and last but not least incredibly successful. Then a new manager without much experience, reputation and success came in and didn't know how to handle such a heavyweight. It came to a clash and the coach tried to humiliate the goaltender by not taking him off the ice during a game when the entire team played terribly. Patrick Roy was furious, announced his departure and went on two win two more Stanley Cups for the Colorado Avalanche. The Montreal Canadiens haven't won one single Stanley Cup since then.

Some sportsmen and other people in their everyday lives don't always have the occasion to make such a brave move so easily. They aren't financially independent, they have families, friends and houses to pay near their workplace and they don't always have the occasion to start a new career or life. The administrators in charge know about this and exploit their employees recklessly.

This leads me to the current case of Laurent Ciman. He has had an incredibly successful career, a large group of fans and followers and is still a national player for the Belgian team despite his advanced age. He didn't join Montreal Impact for the fame and money but because he needed a secure environment for his autistic daughter who could get better treatments in Canada than in Belgium. Even though Ciman made his choice for the sake of taking care of his family, he gave everything for his new team. He was elected defenseman of the year in the MLS in his first year. He brought some attention to an internationally unknown team. He supported local charity and developed a strong bond with numerous fans. Ciman was also known for being severe and demanding towards himself and his teammates. Taking leadership also means taking risks. Laurent Ciman was always a perfect example for determination, honesty and integrity in both good and bad times.

Now, a new coach has joined the team and his first noteworthy decision was to send Laurent Ciman to an expansion team in Los Angeles to get two younger and rather unknown players in return. The coach, whose name isn't even worthy to be mentioned here, justified his decision by saying that he wants to start a new era and that his decision was only influenced by recent performances. The new coach wanted to show that the management is more important than one of the team's most experienced, most faithful and most successful players. The fans reacted very negatively which surprised the coach. This proves how disconnected from reality he really is.

The worst thing is the way this transfer was made. Laurent Ciman wasn't even asked whether he agreed to the transfer or not. The decision was taken while he was in Belgium with his family, just two weeks before Christman during offseason. Apparently, this transfer had been planned over weeks but nobody told Laurent Ciman about it. This is nothing new: managers expect their players to be honest but when it comes to themselves they are rarely role models for integrity.

The worst element about this trade isn't the fact that a great player is leaving a team that desperately needs a leader after the departure of captain Patrice Bernier. The worst element is the human factor in this decision. Laurent Ciman's autistic daughter now either needs to leave the country and work with specialists from yet another foreign country and in a foreign language which could seriously harm her developed or Laurent Ciman must separate from his family to work in Los Angeles while his wife and children must stay in Canada. Let's not forget that Laurent Ciman bought a house in Montreal, was very well integrated in the local community and that the family members were even planning on becoming Canadian citizens. All those dreams and hopes are now shattered - by a coach who didn't even take the time to talk to his star player appropriately.

It's very difficult to support this team after what has just happened. True fans have to criticize and question decisions like these. It's impossible to just turn the page from one day to another and to replace one player with another one. This example stands for many things that are wrong with society these days. Power, money and influence matter but empathy doesn't, even if managers might wrongfully claim otherwise.

It's time to change things for the better - by showing your disagreement with this horrendous decision. Or by deciding to leave and start anew like Patrick Roy once did.

I'm really looking forward to the NHL Centennial weekend, featuring my Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens in an outdoor game at the football stadium! And I'm especially eager for the Sens' Alumni Game - where my childhood favourite hockey player Damian Rhodes will be back guarding a net in Ottawa :D
