This was touched upon lightly in the same-sex marriage topic, and I thought it deserved a seperate thread. So, do you approve or dissaprove of anti-hate speech laws?

I personally think that we have the constitutional right to insult people if we want to (I dont), and I also find that the hate speech laws only go one direction. A christian preacher can be arrested for calling gays immoral but if a gay calls christians hateful, will they get in trouble?

I don't think there should be any restriction on free speech. Not sure about how this law actually works, though. Exactly what types of "hate speech" can make you criminal?

I know it was stupid, but I started this thread without doing proper research.

There is no such thing as freedom of speech these days. If you say I hate fags/blacks or whatever, it's a hate crime. I don't know law to well either so I wouldn't be suprised if someone comes in and correcting me.

I do think it has gone too far. I believe people have a right to their opinions. Yesterday, racist neo-nazi group got raided by the police. I can understand if they were planning violence agaisnt other groups but if they were just saying we're nazis then nothing should be done.

I know this is a very poorly thought out response, I'm just tired.
