Damn. Asterix is probably one of the most famous and most memorable comic book lines that isn't about superheroes or ducks. Always clever, always funny, always felt like your mind was richer for reading them. Some great childhood memories right there. And when they were made into animated movies, the first few at least were pretty great as well. I've never actually seen the live action movies. RIP Albert Uderzo.

Great comics, always enjoyed the art style in them, and they were a fun way to for someone to learn French (or try to) given the puns and jokes.

I have several Asterix books. Fortunately Uderzo said several years ago that more books are going to be published even after his death.

I always liked these audio books as well as the old movies. Good stuff.

And they need their five o'clock hot water.

Asterix along with Tintin was some of the first things I read - my parents have a photo of me at 3 or 4 years old where I've dressed up as a Roman legionnaire (I believe it's more common for little girls to want to play princesses).
Some of my earliest memories have to do with reading Asterix. Thanks for the stories and all the laughs.

Just watch the trailers on Youtube, you'd be in the absolute minority if they don't feel really awkward to you. Kinda like the Garfield live action movies which I've also never seen, it just looks... wrong.

I kind of remember watching one of the Depardieu movies as child and thinking it was kind of mediocre. I imagine adult me might be a fair bit more critical. Mind you, I was also doing the typical fanboy thing of criticizing it for deviating a lot from the source material; it wasn't really part of the same universe at all.

Maybe most tellingly of all, I remember nothing about it except the stupid noses they gave the live action people.

I thought the live action films were actually hysterical when I first watched them, which was admittedly long ago. The only one I've rewatched recently is Mission Cleopatra and yeah its pretty good, great comedic performances and a fun feeling to it.
I don't know if the humor will carry over well if you watch it with subtitles though.
