I'm not all that much of a movie or TV person , however there actually are a bunch of topics out there that haven't been dealt with in the realm of cinematic production , which ( IMHO ) would make great topics . I'm also interested in reading the ideas of others on this topic , so here it goes :

Idea Number 1 : A TV show about no longer active national liberation terrorist groups . While a TV show about ( say ) Islamic terrorists could be very entertaining and informative , I think that making such a show would prove to be too controversial in light of the current political situation . Which is why I think that a show about ( say ) the Provisional IRA or ETA would work out much better . I think that a general Narcos style concept should be chosen , one that would pay close attention to historical detail and wouldn't idealize any of the factions involved in said historical period . I also think that such a show should be shot on location and utilize as many native actors as possible , preferably using their native dialect ( with subtitles provided of course ) .

Come to think of it a show about the FLNC ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_ ... of_Corsica ) could turn out to be an excellent modern historical drama . For starters much of the population of the English speaking world has never heard of this group ( making it a very original/non rehashed topic ) , not to mention that it would have a bit of not too controversial in the world at large relevance , what with the current efforts of Corsican separatism .

Idea Number 2 : A medieval drama piece concerning the Teutonic Order's campaigns in Eastern Europe . One that would feature the Battle of Grunwald Forest , among other notable events .

Idea Number 3 : A realistic TV show about outlaw bikers . One that would refrain from being as boring as Gangland Undercover or as utterly ridiculous as Sons of Anarchy . In fact the show would strive to be as unlike SOA as possible .

Personally I think that an anthology show would work best . One that would cover the antics of the Hells Angels in one season and the antics of the Bandidos in the next . Only real life characters ( such as Taco Bowman ) and real life events ( like the Shedden Massacre ) would be portrayed and nothing would be sanitized or glossed over .

Idea Number 4 : A TV show about the real life Dixie Mafia . One that would cover real life events ( such as the murder of Margaret and Vincent Sherry ) and would naturally feature real life characters as well ( like Mike Gillich ) .

I have a few more ideas , but these few will do for the time being .

Given how it seems that producers are plundering comic book series for ideas now, I would love to see someone with the balls and vision to tackle a live action TV series based on the Transmetropolitan comic series. Yes please.

I just want more shows in the vein of Mythbusters and Adam Ruins Everything, where everything you know is wrong, you've been lied to your whole life, and now we're going to try in vain to educate you.

I can't see anything like this being on a sky channel but my idea would be to have a 24/7 streaming service devoted to rock/metal, nothing like Kerrang/Scuzz where they both ended up turning into the Eminem/Paramore show, but something like a YT service similar to Banger. Minimal advertising with plenty of scope for interviews, live music sessions/lessons, documentaries, live festivals/gigs, giveaways, etc etc. Something that would be of interest to underground or lesser-known rock/metal bands aswell as the more mainstream ones.

I'd love to see horror films about stuff like the Belmez Faces or the Borley Rectory.

Co-signed. My favorite comic series by a very wide margin, with Locke & Key in second. That would also make a great show, especially if the side plots are allowed more time to be fleshed out (as even Joe Hill has said he wishes he did more with them).

For movies, give me an Exo-Squad adaptation. I don't even care if it's a lame Michael Bay flick, I want some mechs that aren't the size of skyscrapers.

The closest we'll get are Eddie Trunks radio show on youtube and simply searching youtube for stuff like that. It really blows my mind how the people at VH-1 or whoever it was cancelled That Metal Show, considering it was VH-1 Classics highest rated show(its now MTV classic, which is one of the lowest rated channels).

I'd like to see a series about Arthurian romances, that means, inspired by works such as "Le Morthe d'Arthur", the "Idylls of the King" and Chretien de Troyes... yeah I know there have been some series about Knight's Table but they had a "teeny" approach or a "historical" one where the knights were some kind of Vikings/barbarians dressed in rags and / or sheep fur or whatever...I'd like to see a show that draws on the mythical, courtly and mysterious atmosphere of those books, a serialization of Boorman's "Excalibur" in short.

I just want all Dan Simmons' sci-fi stuff to be made into mini series or whatever.... no LOTR/GoT/HBOing anything, just carbon copies of the books regardless of how many superhero movie directors say it won't go across mediums properly unless they use that sepia-style tone all over it

Dan Simmons' The Terror finally receives its own television series and the first episode is going to be airing by the end of the month. I've been waiting for this for years. The trailer looks awesome!

Add my name to the Transmetropolitan petition, probably the greatest work in that medium alongside From Hell.

I just want more Clive Barker adaptations. Seriously, the fact that there hasn't been any movies or shows based on Imajica, Weaveworld, The Thief of Always or the Damnation Game is just fucking perplexing.

1. A series adapted from any of Ursula K Guin's books.

2. An adaptation of the The Dark Tower that's dark, gritty, faithful and yet filled with heart-warming parts that are "quite cheesy even for something from the 80s".

3. More fantastical stories from under-represented communities, like the Black Panther, was. Since I mentioned the Dark Tower, I may as well throw in an idea of a dark/fantasy western (ish) story. Start off with your regular western but then add in elements of fantasy, heavily influenced by Native American culture. Maybe a story from the perspective of a shaman that heals bandits and outlaws, seeking for a second chance in life? Include stories of tribes questioning the shaman's decision to help people outside the tribe, with a rival trying to usurp their position. Have a tribe member only pretending to care for the first shaman's decision, just so that they could find the riches hidden by that outlaw. You can even have sheriffs coming over to their village, and accusing the tribe members to be masterminds of old crimes ran by that outlaw. Intertwine the drama with underrepresented mythology. Add up a lot of grey areas, then you'll have a compelling story and multiple debates on who should you root for.

Or Penn & Teller's Bullshit, which does away with the libertarian skewing they were sadly prone to. But more television like this is definitely something I want, and something I think we might need.

Also, a new horror anthology show in the vein of Tales from the Darkside and Tales from the Crypt.

Here are a few more ideas of mine :

1. A historical drama series about the Dutch Revolt . TV shows concerning obscure periods of history are few and far between and there should be more of them IMHO .

2 . A TV show about the real life Cornbread Mafia of Kentucky .

3. A TV show about the real life Johnston crime family of Pennsylvania . Now I realize that the movie " At Close Range " has already dealt with this topic , but I think a proper TV show could do it much more justice .

4 . This idea is not so original , but I think a movie should be made about an aging past his prime glam metal singer trying to make a comeback . The fellow in question would be played by Mickey Rourke and the movie itself could be a bit of a homage to " The Wrestler " .

I also think that a TV show should be made with Mickey Rourke as one of the lead characters , since he's never starred in a TV series and he's also one of the greatest actors around IMHO .

I would really love to see Diablo adapted in some way, like a mini series. A movie would be too short and, well depending on what part of the story is going to be shown, a full series would probably too much.

Diablo has always been my favourite Blizzard universe, being the most dark and all. The Warcraft movie took so much time to be finally made and released that I ended up losing interest, and I was dissapointed with it overall. And now it seems that they wanted to maybe start with Warcraft, seeing how it's the most accessible of their universes, to see how it goes, but I guess we won't be seeing any more adaptation in the near future. So it would be nice to hope for an awesome Diablo adaptation. I would probably love to see the first Diablo story adapted. The first game was definitely the darkest. The invisible creatures in the Halls of the Blind, and the bats, they used to really scare me when I was young. The story would also fit perfectly into a movie or something, with the main character, or The Wanderer, discovering clues in the labyrinth and getting the trust of Tristram's folks to talk to him, and the audience following him in his journey, maybe with some hints of the upcoming "possession" by Diablo.

Here are a few more ideas of mine , after which I'll wrap up my contributions to this thread for the foreseeable future , after alll this isn't the " Share your ideas about movies and TV shows " archives . :)

Idea Number 1 : A TV show about the War of Austrian Succession .

Idea Number 2 : A TV show about a fictional funk enthusiast called " Funky Man " . It would be a comedy show and it's theme song would consist of the lines " Funky , Funky , Funky , Funky Man " set to a disco type beat .

Idea Number 3 : A TV show about Southern redneck gangster types . It would either take place in the 1970s in a fictional Deep South county and feature longhaired counterculture type redneck gangsters or it would be an anthology series featuring fictional Southern redneck gangster types both in a present and past day setting . The show's theme song would be " Saturday Night Special " .

Idea Number 4 : In keeping with the idea of Mickey Rourke being a lead character in a TV show , I've thought up the perfect package . He'd star in a TV show featuring Willem Dafoe , Christopher Walken , and Crispin Glover as the other three main characters . Each actor would play a character based on their seminal roles ( Rourke would play a boxer , Dafoe would play a counterfeiter , Walken would play a crime boss , and Glover would play himself as usual ) and the plot would center around them trying to enter a hidden universe or something . The plot wouldn't matter as much as the tone and acting .

Anyways these are all my ideas for now and any kind of feedback is very much welcome .

I am a big-time TV ultra-rich TV executive-producer, and I am ready to drop millions on Idea #2 IMMEDIATELY.

I imagine you're joking , but if you're being serious then I'm certainly game , though I wouldn't be prepared to immediately start on such a project . This idea of mine is fairly stupid TBH , however stupid things can be funny .

As an aside a kid I went to school with came up with this character , except I think he wanted to create a comic about him or something , which gives me first dibs on the TV show idea . Of course I'd certainly give him credit for the idea , but that's neither here nor there .

Here are a few more ideas that I forgot to jot down :

1. A Near Dark prequel series . It goes without saying that it would be hard to find suitable actors for such a project , what with Paxton having passed away and Henriksen having gotten much older , but I still think it could turn out to be a very fruitful show if done properly .

2. A Boondock Saints prequel series that would feature David Della Rocco and Ron Jeremy reprising their original roles .

3 . A TV show about the Philadelphia Greek Mob .

4 . A TV show about the Velentzas crime family of New York .

By tv shows are you including animated ones? If so, then I'd like to see a more mature Ninja Turtles cartoon series one day. I'd even be willing to let the Japanese handle it and thus make an anime out of it. I think they'd be more likely to pull that off. The 2k3 cartoon was the closest to the Mirage comics of all the TMNT cartoon series so far, but still wasn't really THAT close and it was clearly aimed at kids/early teens.

I also would like to see a tv show is a similar vein to the anime/OVA Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

Ursula LeGuin- that was the "Wizard of Earthsea" trilogy if I remember right. I'd forgotten all about that series, but I remember reading it and liking it at the time. As far as fantasy Game of Thrones type stuff; I wouldn't mind seeing a "Chronicles of Prydain" or a David Eddings' "Belgariad" type TV serial or movie- I know they did make one based on the "Black Cauldron" about 20 or so years ago, but I remember it wasn't that good.

Someone mentioned a streaming music series, our cable provider does offer a "Music Choice: Metal" channel but it's just streaming music with tidbits of info about each band. I check it out sometimes. Metal or not, most of the music they play isn't too much to my liking; too much Lamb of God/Meshuggah type chug-gunah stuff, although about one out of every four or five songs is actually something good.

Speaking of which, Bring back Metalacolypse!! Best cartoon EVER!!!

I've said this before, but I'd love to see Sapphire and Steel given the same rejuvenation treatment that was administered to Doctor Who by the BBC. It would RULE.

Speaking of spinoffs , I'd love to see a Justified prequel series about Wynn Duffy . I don't like that show too much FWIW , but the character of Duffy is one of the best I've ever seen , so I'd love to see a TV show about him .

I would totally get behind a Wynn Duffy series. I also count Justified on a short list of my favorite live-action shows ever, but the character brought so much menace early on and, later, his relationship with Mikey really humanized him.

EDIT: Hell, I'd get behind any offshoot from Justified, now that I think about it. Even a parenting comedy about Raylan and Winona, or the continuing prison break schemes of Boyd, or Ava trying to stay off the grid...damn that show was incredible.

There is this particular comic book franchise from Italy that was hugely popular here on Balkans. Some of the names include: Dylan Dog, Martin Mysterie, Alan Ford, Tex Willer, Gordon Link, Lazarus Ledd and, my all time favourite - Nathan Never. Those were great comic books with superb warm and deep characters and addictive storylines, especially Nathan Never with it's gloomy postapocalyptic SF setting, paying tribute to Alien, Predator, Space Odyssey, Videodrome, Mad Max and so on...And all of those comics are perfectly fit for TV/cinema adaptation..

My wish was granted when Netflix announced that they were making a TV adaption of The Witcher.
Also I would pay good money to get a Mad Max TV series.

I would like to see original series and movies that aren't based on books, aren't spin-offs, aren't superhero manbaby crap and feature an interesting narrative without having to resort to hundreds of breasts. It would be a bonus if said series doesn't run on for 8 seasons with a lot of filler in there.

I didn't kinda expect to see a fellow Nathan Never fan here! I've "inherited" a lot of the early volumes and loved them since i was a kid

While a lot of his stories are heavily inspired by movies and sci-fi tropes i think too that the authors managed to create a really interesting world and great characters. A good adaptation would be wonderful! The world needs Fightball scenes :)

I would like to see original series and movies that aren't based on books, aren't spin-offs, aren't superhero manbaby crap and feature an interesting narrative without having to resort to hundreds of breasts. It would be a bonus if said series doesn't run on for 8 seasons with a lot of filler in there.

You'd have to be an anime fan to get that. Now and Then Here and There, Fantastic Children, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, FLCL, Haibane Renmei, Black Lagoon, Vision of Escaflowne, Psycho-Pass, Death Parade, Eureka Seven...and that's not including the veritable mountain of excellent adaptations of books, manga, video games (well, only a few of those).

I really wish they made more seasons of Is It Real? from National Geographic. I enjoy paranormal nonsense stories, but I like having the scientific and skeptical slant applied to them to explain what they actually are. So sick of the amount of television we have that's paranormal as if this shit is real. It fucking isn't.

A good call! Although, AF is not from Bonelli, and neither are Gordon Link (which was a short-lived attempt at a Dylan Dog rip-off by another company), and Lazarus is from Star Comics, which was founded by ex-Bonelli employees IIRC.

Should have put Zagor, Mr. No, Nick Raider, Ken Parker, Julia, Magico Vento, Dampyr, Mark, Blek or The Little Ranger instead. :p
(though the last three are of a bit lesser quality, as is Captain Miki).

A few years ago, I watched the film Interstate 60: Episodes from the Road. As the film revolves around the protagonist driving along this fantasy road and having various adventures in the places he visits during his trip, I thought the film would be a pretty great source for a TV show adaptation.
Too bad it's not such a well known film, and these tend not to be picked up for TV show treatment...
