Here are some of mine (in no particular order):
AC/DC
Led Zeppelin
Aerosmith
Van Halen
Kiss
Alice Cooper
Ted Nugent
Lynyrd Skynyrd
ZZ Top
Allman Brothers Band
Charlie Daniels Band
Johnny Cash
Willie Nelson
Waylon Jennings
David Allan Coe
George Jones
Merle Haggard (definitely more country than even rock and roll but still good in my personal opinion)

With ya'all out there, what are some of your favorite nonmetal bands/artists?

Been toiling away at my diploma paper the entire weekend and I needed something to cheer me up today, so...thanks!

As for my favourite non-metal artists: Japanese noisicians of the nineties and emo hardcore bands of the same era.

Tbh the majority of stuff I listen to these days isn't really 'metal' anymore.

I spin a lot of stoner/hard rock (which I guess can come under the banner of metal depending on who you speak to) like:

Clutch
Rival Sons
Blues Pills
Graveyard

I'm really into old-school prog/psyche to so stuff like:

Yes
Genesis
Pink Floyd
Jefferson Airplane

I also spend a lot of time listening to 90's alternative rock:

Pearl Jam
Soundgarden (have their metal moments tbf)
Oasis (I know, they just make me happy in the summer)
Stone Roses

Music is art so I find rating it against other peoples tastes kind of retarded. Like my dad hates the Stone Roses but I would never for a second think that negates his taste in music, he's just not a fan.

Aren't metal but still very good? There are countless...metal is not even close to the only good genre.

My favorites for the last year have been Jack White, Father John Misty, Muse and Depeche Mode I suppose, among a lot of others.

I will omit rock (especially stoner rock, post-rock and some prog) and punk, which are the two genres I listen to most alongside metal. The ones who really have little to do with heavy music and I really dig are, off the top my head, these:

Tom Waits
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds/ Grinderman
Tori Amos
Mark Lanegan
Laibach

I also started listening to some hip-hop recently, including Death Grips, Cage, and dälek and I do like it. Plus some Slovak and Czech bands and folk artists (Collegium Musicum, Fermata, Jaromir Nohavica, Michal Prokop & Framus 5 and others), great instrumentalists (Paco De Lucia, John Coltrane)... so much stuff to mention.

There's this singer named Emily Davis out of Texas that I really like. She has one called Sagan's Song about Carl Sagan, and that sold me on her.

Also, Melody Sheep's Symphony of Science.

Of course, there's AC/DC and Alice Cooper, the former here being my gateway into Metal.

Speaking of, here's another song about Sagan that I'm rather fond of...

When it comes to rock bands, I'll mention:

Marilyn Manson
Deathstars
Rammstein
Godhead
NIN

Yeah, I guess that when it comes to rock I pretty much only listen to industrial... :p

Speaking of industrial...

Feindflug
Combichrist
Tactical Sekt
Wumpscut
Panzer AG

I also love Martial Industrial. Here are some of my favourites:

Toroidh
Triarii
Arditi
Legionarii
Striider
Blood Axis

Ha ha, I mentioned Symphony of Science in the very next sentence. Yes, that one is great, too.
