Both Dance of Death and A Matter... have some really good songs, but neither has enough good material to justify a 70 minute runtime.

That's probably my favorite post-2000 Maiden tune, with The Pilgrim being a close second.

I like to compare Maiden's Dance of Death to their Fear of the Dark album. When it's good, it's great, and when it's shit, it's really shit!

That's pretty harsh against Dance of Death! Fear of the Dark, I agree, there are two of Iron Maiden's greatest songs (no prizes for guessing which those are), and a slew of crud. Well I suppose "From Here to Eternity" and "Be Quiick or Be Dead" are tolerable.
Dance of Death on the other hand, really has nothing I will skip. Even "Age of Innocence", I'll put up with it because the lyrics, though written with no regard fitting them into a good tune, carry a sorrowful nostalgia that I like to wallow in sometimes. And as others have said, the best songs on the album esp. "Montsegur" totally slap.

It's a solid album with mostly songs that are good and enjoyable but falling short of great. "Face in the Sand" I remember being catchy. "Rainmaker" was cool. But not a lot of it was truly captivating I guess. I think they got better with the ones after that again, though people here don't usually agree with me. AMOLAD was my first new Maiden album when I got into them, and I liked it a lot, and then liked the next two even more.

Yet here we are, and you write coherent sentences without typos or missing punctuation... I have a feeling this is a amateur night at drinking. But good for you, carry on.

Read drunkenness goes way past just feeling dizzy. It means you can talk in languages that never existed, go to bed and forget your face on the dinner table, and perhaps, at some point if you're a milk-livered little beginner, you might exhale in Technicolor on something and not remember a thing until you make a discovery in the morning.

Or, possibly, you and your friend may forget where you left you clothes when you decide to go skinny dipping by wading through 200 meters of reeds. Then you have to locate them, naked and bleeding from the tiny cuts that cover everything from your ankles to your gonads, smelling of methane-rich bottom sludge, and wonderfully oblivious to the four-lane highway right next to you, which, thankfully, might have only a few occasional cars on it because it's mid-July and 4:30 am. This scenario is loosely based on a thing that actually happened in the early 90's; the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Worst I've been was a time when I was hanging out with my brother and cousin some time back. My cousin made me an edible peanut butter sandwich and we were playing one of those drinking games where you take a shot every time you lose. Got to the point where I was screaming gibberish and got everybody to run in circles naked around my car in the driveway. Though if I've never blacked out before, that's just a sign that I could be so much worse.

So please forgive my cheap plug, but here is some crap I've been making.

Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to make comics. I'm finally bothering to do so in what, with any luck, is not total garbage. I have a lot of steps to go in building this, such as, eventually, crafting a full website for it (I may have to hire someone to do that) that I can put ads on and maybe make a dollar a year. I haven't quite gotten that far yet. Anyway, here's the original blog: Warm Fuzzy Cynical comics from Evil Nick.

Follow there, or better yet, on Facebook, I don't really care because they don't matter. Or don't. You really don't have to. Why "better yet" on Facebook? Because I don't know if I'm going to sustain the Wordpress blog or not. I'd rather replace it with something I control completely.

Here's one, and to save space, the rest of the linked images are spoilered in order to not take up a ton and a half of space.

Maybe the real joke is that it's shot straight to #1 best seller on BC the past few days and it's actually "good" raw black metal!?

Is that unusual? Do your cousin's peanut butter sandwiches typically contain broken glass?

I've had quite a few nights where I got to a level of drunk where I have no idea how I ever made it home (walking, mind). Thank god my front door code is so deeply embedded in my muscle memory.

I suspect the word "edible" here means that that particular peanut butter sandwich contained some of the marihuana.

Anyway, not knowing how you got home, beats not knowing how you wound up locked out on your friend's balcony in another town, with only slippers, a bathrobe and a copy of Witness to Roswell. A fascinating and well-researched book, btw.

DLR has what I like to call Ozzy syndrome: A unique timbre and a whole lot of charisma that gets mistaken by the layman for actual talent.

#thedrunkestihaveeverbeen included me calling my girlfriend to ask for a ride home, only to be told that she had started drinking wine with her friends and couldn't pick me up, then I blinked and next thing I knew I was laying on a couch and yelling, screaming, drunkenly demanding that somebody better start playing Rock Band so I can sing Wonderwall right this instant god dammit.

Or potentially the time my friends and I found a piano bar in St. Louis and were ridiculously overserved, and when we left there was a hot dog stand across the street which caused me to scream "Oh fuck yes I'm gonna eat like six wieners right this second". The woman in front of me (wearing a New England Patriots hoodie) asked me to hold her purse while she looked through her wallet and I yelled "Aw sweet is there money in here?" and started rooting through it. She stood there giggling while her boyfriend shot me an intense death glare. My sense of self preservation apparently completely dies after fifteen drinks so I just told him "Chill dogg I'm not gonna steal money from a filthy Patriots fan, you losers need my charity" (which, as a Bears fan, made absolutely no sense whatsoever but hey). Luckily his girlfriend thought I was funny and prevented him from murdering me. I did indeed eat a whole bunch of wieners afterwards.

I also took my buddy's phone that night and messaged one of his Tinder matches that her eyes were the same color as my Lamborghini. She asked me when they started making brown Lamborghinis and I panicked and threw his phone back at him. Whenever a new Forza or Gran Turismo game comes out, my brother will buy a Lambo and paint it brown now because of that story.

He's one of two reasons I've never been able to get into Van Halen, the other one being that the music's fucking terrible.

The uniqueness and charisma, as well as hitting the notes on key are enough for me to not care that his voice isn't the greatest. DLR will always be one of my favorites, Van Halen and solo career alike. Always gives good vibes and gets me in the mood to party or hang out in the sun.

DLR for the performance, over-all batshit craziness and the intangible qualities that make you a rockstar. Hagar for the voice (IMO).

If Deep Purple had had a different singer from Rod Evans... uh, hmmm.

If Iron Maiden had had a different singer from Paul Mario Day, and then Dennis Wilcock, and then that other Paul guy....

Yeah, so much for that argument.

You know, I recently got finished smoking a rather not-insignificant amount of weed, and for a moment, I thought all of my metal knowledge was just gone. From my mind. Forever.

Those were some truly horrifying 4 seconds.

The skies have been clear EVERY FUCKING NIGHT for the past two months, except maybe, well, for three or so nights. Tonight, we had a lunar eclipse, and a spectacular one at that. And what do we get? Anyone?

A complete cloud cover in the 180 degree sector where the Moon is supposed to be, less than two hours before the event. FUCK! ShIT! Crap!

EVERY SINGLE TIME! Always, whenever there is an eclipse of bloody anything, a full, impenetrable cloud cover creeps in two hours before the event, whereverthefuck I may be. It happened during the late 80's or early 90's full solar eclipse, and it has happened every single time since. I've actually seen one full lunar eclipse by accident once, in the early 80's, and I wondered why the Moon looked funny... only to be told later on that I had seen the early stages of an eclipse, and had I stayed out later, it would have been cool. FUUUUUUUUUCK! I missed even that one.

Life goal: become so rich that I can order a solar or lunar eclipse whenever I feel like it.

More importantly: When is Metallica playing a gig on the moon? Probably during a lunar eclipse?

I swore that out loud today and tonight the clouds went off the sky partially so I still managed to see it a bit. Try that next time.

What upset me is that journalists call that "a blood moon"... Dude it's just rust-ish/ruddle, not "blood". Damn clickbait. Oh and "it's the longest of the century" yeah, the one that started less than 20 years ago? C'mon... Also keep in mind that the last eclipse of the same genre was back in 2011 and it lasted... 101 minutes. Almost two minutes less than today's one. And in 2000 another lasted 106 minutes... And others mistakes.
