Didn't we have a tale of the perfect romance just a couple of months ago? :p

Okay, so I knew the final Queensryche albums with Geoff Tate were miserably bad, but I didn't actually take a close look at the lyrics on Dedicated to Chaos until just now.

Ol' Geoffy Boy wrote:

You've got “those” sunglasses on.

I bet you read Machiavelli in bed and I realize that I'm in way over my head ...
But I got it bad .so bad for you.
Got it bad for you! I got it bad!
Oh I'd stay up all night to see if you're the kind of girl that bites.
You're not some China Doll I'd get over soon.
You got mesmerizing advertising, want to make love to you.

Now I feel you, coming on strong.
And I could feed you if we could ever be alone.
Oh, baby, I've got it .so bad for you!
Got it bad for you! I got it bad for you!
I got it bad, bad, bad, bad dog, don't make me beg.
What you got going on with that .is more than I can take.
You've got “those” sunglasses on.
Now I feel you, coming on strong.
And I could feed you if I could ever get you home.
Oh, Honey, I've got it .so bad for you.
Got it bad for you!
I got it bad for you! I got it bad for you!

Holy actual fuck, I almost spit out my coffee at "I bet you read Machiavelli in bed."

I would really love to not be single anymore. It's been almost two years now, January will meet that mark, and i have yet to meet anyone here worth my time/someone who is gonna treat me the way i deserve to be treated. You would think being in Chicago I'd have better luck but no. I've met exactly one person who lives close enough to me that I'd be willing to do long distance and she is amazing. Sadly not the right time for it currently. Being sinlge is fun and all but I'm kinda over it and ready to be with someone again. It's pretty god damn lonely in my life right now.

Yeah I would like to not be single any more. I would also like to not find out my lady is cheating on me by seeing intimate photos of her with someone else on the facebook; and to not have her re-establish contact a few months later, pregnant with what I naively assumed to be "our" daughter, only to lower the boom on me again when the real father actually owned up to it and I realized she knew the baby wasn't mine and just needed me in case this bastard didn't come back.

tl;dr let's just say I'm taking a break from dating.

PS hang in there, maybe that long-distance amazing match of yours would be willing to remove the distance and be together :)

Damn dude. That's pretty fucking awful, sorry that happened to you.

Naahh, it isn't really about the distance there. Sure it plays a roll but there's other factors. Suffice to say now is not the time for anything to happen. Possibly sometime in the future, who knows. We remain friends and that's all that matters for now.

I've temporarily given up on dating. I find one of my bosses to be really attractive and she does kind of look at me and smile a lot, but I haven't had a chance to actually talk to her. Plus, it's best not to make things awkward in the workplace.

Because we knew each other before, we didn't bother with trying to go out and "be impressive." Conversation wasn't "safe" like first date conversation tends to be. Everything flowed very naturally. We spent most of the evening pretty much just wrapped up together on the couch. May not sound exciting on the surface, but for us, it was pretty fucking perfect.

The list of things she and I have in common is just so fucking absurd. We're both ex-military, our kids are about the same age (mine boy is 14, her daughters will be 14 next spring), we've both been married once, our spouses both left us while we were deployed (hers took her kids though), our previous two relationships were both 5 years and 2 years. These are just examples. This list just goes on and on. We both have best friends who are trans (not her ex). We both cut ourselves getting trimmed up for our date!

And she wore jeans and heels, which I have a weakness for.

Did you also wear jeans and heels? :P But hey, that's a really great story, dude! And being wrapped up together on the couch sounds plenty exciting. Good for you, mate! :D

Sorry to hear you're feeling lonely, dude. Obvious question, but are you on Tinder or anything like that? Might be the best way to meet someone. Chicago is a very big place with a lot of girls so I can't imagine you will be single for too much longer if you're actively looking. It's just coming across the right girl for you.

I've been single for a little over two years myself. Can't say I'm rushing back into it, although I do miss some aspects of partnership.

Hey, you caught it :p And there are quite a bunch of Canadians in here. Kim's Convenience is the first CBC series I've enjoyed this much since Chilly Beach.

AC/DC was one of my first rock bands ever and I remember playing their songs years and years ago before I knew much else about music at all. Damn.

The dang coyotes are back here in Ottawa. I don't even live on the outskirts, but we've already seen a couple of them sniffing around the corner. And eastern coyotes are the big nasties - much higher prevalence of some wolven ancestry than those piddly little mangy ones you get out west.

I was being treated for depression before but the meds definitely made me worse to make a long story short and I stopped. Misfire on their end but medicine isn't always perfect.

I just need to find the right med I guess.

Spoiler: show
Zodi locked my Unsolved Mysteries thread, but I'll repost here because I really do feel there is value in my theory. If nothing else, take it as an attempt to get inside the mind of George Bush, who himself cited the Book of Revelation as justification for invading Iraq and Afghanistan.

well that unsolved mysteries thread has been one of the few fairly interesting threads in this subforum, why did it get locked? just because of the village idiot contradicting himself? I'd say the influx of interesting mystery cases definitely outweighs that. in fact it had stayed surprisingly free of the tin hat foolery that usually goes hand in hand with these topics.

I consider it something of a miracle that the mysteries thread lasted so long without totally devolving into outlandish conspiracism. It was genuinely about mysteries, for the most part.

It's not crazy to think that the people who profited off 9/11 were behind it. It's just hard to accept that sometimes villains benefit from things they didn't perpetrate.

Nothingface finally clicked for me. Well, I've only owned it for a few months I guess I shouldn't say "finally". But it clicked. That probably isn't even severe enough. It didn't just click, it shot home with the resounding thud of a heavy steel bolt. I'm afraid my problem now is it won't unclick. I don't really want to listen to anything else. I don't really even want to THINK about anything else. I just want to keep hearing and analyzing and reacting to this strange, strange album.

Please send help.

Nothingface is fucking great, man. It doesn't really rock out so much as it... plonks around? Or something. I don't know. You probably get what I mean. The point is, it's a really unique beast; if you heard the previous Voivod albums leading up to it you can very easily see how they went from just a kinda weird thrash band to Nothingface's all out madness, and it's such a beautiful, seamless transition.

Man, now I gotta play some Voivod.

We are witnessing an important milestone in the great wheel of life: a Jonpo is about to become a man. He experiences new urges, and notices changes in his body. In the coming years, he will learn to appreciate strong drinks, black coffee, and pleasures of consuming another living being's flesh, barely cooked. He will emmure himself in a cocoon, emerge as a full metalhead, and change the world.

Nah. That's completely normal. We could go for a beer, though, now that the coming-of-age ritual has happened.

This modern metal music (post 2005) sound soooo empty and lifeless to me.. i simply can't connect to it no matter how much I try...I'll take my road back to this nostalgia feel and music on which I grew (90's music).. i dunno is it the artists themselves, their modern-over produced music, lack of euphoria or simply the way of the world..

Nothingface is pretty goddamn amazing. Gonna play some Voivod later while reading that Jack Vance book I bought for $2 - a good combo I think.

I dunno about this. New The Chasm and Arrayan Path are outstanding and full of vibrant, interesting ideas I haven't heard from older bands. There's tons of good stuff.

It breaks my heart that you're trying to get familiar with Vance by reading the second book in a trilogy, without reading the first. ...Aren't you a writer? Surely you wouldn't want someone trying to stumble in through the middle of one of your works and just "figure it out". He has lots of stand-alone novels, or you could probably hunt down The Anome on Amazon for like $4. The Durdane trilogy is definitely not the best starting point.
