Agreed. Let's talk about that third amendment instead. I personally believe we need a soldier in each house regardless of what some idiot concerned about his/her privacy thinks. We're woefully unprotected for when the blacks, queers and French decide to try an invasion.

That was pretty cool! Reminds me of the Beverastian Ruins. Though I must say I find rapey intros/outros irritating, and that those are a thing in metal is also kinda irritating.

Great holiday. I got everything on my wish list. Went to a relative's house (boring), ran 15 miles, then went to the relative's house whom I like more and had fun. Thing is I drank a beer on an empty stomach as replenishment after my run! Now I gotta sleep off this icky feeling. Ah the joys of the first world. Listened to metal all day :metal:

 If you like that, you should check out the self-titled release. Definitely some nice, rusty, filth-caked doom depravity happening on that album.

Does the outro qualify as rapey? It did seem a bit "raping the Christ child" the last time I paid attention, which...eh...I guess has a certain undeniable degree of potency to it, though I felt it was subtle enough to be cast over with a shadow of ambiguity. Then again, it could be my mental defense mechanisms kicking in to make me not imagine too much baby rape.
I guess by pure dumb luck, if nothing else, I don't tend to encounter rapey intros/outros in metal very often at all, so the impression struck me as somewhat novel.

Yeah because gun control & the 2nd amendment is way more important to discuss in the Newton School shooting thread than MENTAL HEALTH (in which I barely see ANY discussion of it while the MAJORITY of it is all about guns).

So what you are saying is that people with mental issues should be less important? And besides, you don't need a gun to kill/injure someone.

Just proof that people are brainwashed by the mainstream media with this "gun control" issue.

Yet it's okay to talk about gun control instead of the state of the mental health system in America.

And yes, I do know that the shootings that occur in this country (including the ones that were NOT mass shootings) are not caused by mental health issues. This one had an issue with mental health, and the fact that people are ignoring this issue and are ONLY going to talk about guns (that is what I only see going on in that thread last time I checked) just doesn't seem right.

What are your opinions of this, then? Mental health issues are not a problem unique to America (obviously).

Mental health care has been in a bad shape since 2003. People with mental illness are struggling to get the care that they need because they can't afford it. And when a MENTALLY-ILL person shoots a bunch of elementary school kids, what is the immediate discussion 2-3 days later? Gun control. Nothing is being said about improving mental-health care. I only saw a few articles talking about mental health and at least one YouTube video that talks about it. And it really annoys me that people would normally call someone like this a nut job/lunatic and immediately discuss the state of gun control and how the government should change how we use guns, and not even bring up ANYTHING about mental care or trying to figure out WHY someone would do this. And in three months prior, they would all forget about it and go back to talking about American idol and what the celebrities are doing and other nonsense.

I watched that video, and I do agree with some of the stuff he's saying. In Australia, some mental health programs are covered by Medicare. I go to a psychologist and I get rebates, but I'm only allowed 12 a year. Any more than that and I have to pay $140 a session - obviously a lot of money. I don't know what it's like there, but hopefully the system can improve to a point where people can be helped.

Good grief, I realised that I just polished off half a kilo of figs over Christmas. On the upside, I finally came to terms with my dislike of Pallbearer - they may be awesome at what they do, but the vocals make me want to throw something hard at something fragile. Hope everyone had a merry Christmas.

I agree that mental health services are a major societal issue, but why does it have to be an either/or debate - that is, why focus on just one issue? Surely, it must be possible to discuss, both, gun control and the state of the mental health system when it comes to incidents like this, without people who choose to focus on one of those issues claiming that debate of the other is counter-productive and that only one factor should be considered.

OK, maybe my choice of words wasn't clear enough: MOVE THE DISCUSSION ON GUNS, MASS SHOOTINGS, AND ANYTHING RELATED TO THE SCHOOL SHOOTING TO THE SCHOOL SHOOTING THREAD. Thank you.

Lamenting that there is no discussion on mental health there doesn't mean you need to start that that here, you can go there and start talking about it, Metalfuckingrules. Another word on this thread and I'll send you to the penalty box with a Metantoine wearing a punisher suit.

Figs are good for you. I imagine they were dried ones? Because half a kilo of regular figs ain't really that much. And think positive: If you hadn't had that half a kilo of figs, you might've had half a kilo of chocolate, which would've been more unhealthy and would have contained more calories. The problem with figs though is that I start to crave some salty and fatty cheese with them. A slab of blue, brie and/or camembert goes so well with them. So one ends up having half a kilo of figs with half a kilo of cheese. Or well, perhaps not, but you get the gist.

 Thanks, that really does make me feel better; chocolate would have been worse. I will try to feel virtuous as I continue gorging on fruit.

Though now I really do crave some brie... pity the figs (dried ones, indeed) are all gone now. Hmmm. Must get more. Or overcome my conviction that dates have the look and texture of cockroaches and get stuck into those. Seriously. Look at them. Cockroaches - same colour, shape, size, and that horrible light crunch that you'd think their casing would have. Ergh.

Worst thing is, they're actually good people. They just believe in loads of bullcrap (and have some seriously misled opinions because of that). Well, then again, I'm talking about a family who believe firmly in a gay agenda and that Obama is the Antichrist, so meh.....

Well, I suppose dried figs are loaded with carbohydrates, but at least it's just the sugar of the fruit, right! But yeah, better that than chocolate. I've never really drawn the comparison to cockroaches with dates though. I mean, the ones I've had have been soft without any crunch. Dates, haven't tried cockroaches.

True facts for today:

1) Implying that all breakdowns are bad is like implying that all blast beats are bad
2) Breakdowns and thrash breaks are fundamentally identical and are just two executions of the same idea in songwriting, so the oft-heralded idea that the former is awful and the latter is awesome is utterly baffling to me

12/26 is now Breakdown Awareness Day.

Breakdowns of any kind can be actually good when used properly and not to excess. That's the way I've always felt about them at least.

Breakdowns of any kind can be actually good when used properly and not to excess. That's the way I've always felt about them at least.

Same as a pinch harmonic or a falsetto wail (King Diamond excluded, of course) or a gravity blast or tapping solo or anything. Breakdowns just bear the brunt of the baseless discrimination because they're easy to do and so shitty bands use them as a crutch. Roughly half of the people with this mindset also hate ultra noodly tech death for the exact opposite reason. I pulled that statistic straight out of my ass but you all know I'm right.

Some ultra noodly tech death is alright, like first album Necrophagist and Obscura. The structureless dreck that are Brain Drill and Rings of Saturn are big no nos, though.
