Anyone else think At The Gates' The Red in the Sky is Ours is fucking amazing or am I flying solo on that one?

John_Sunlight was in my dream the other night for some odd reason. At the time, my consciousness was floating in a mote-like mode, slowly buzzing around like a fly in the middle of a plaza with a fountain and chairs sitting around randomly in the open. J_S took the form of a hipster wearing a black turtleneck or something, with obligatory Warby Parker eyeglasses, and I was circling in this insect-like form in lazy loops around his head, flying within inches of his face, which in the dream was hilarious.

I should get around to listening to At the Gates for the first time, and also Wintersun. I'm a terrible metalhead. :(

Skip out on Wintersun. You'll thank me later.

Seriously cool, unique album, though I only listen to it occasionally. Actually, you know what? I'm gonna listen to it right now. Thanks for the reminder

Thanks for the warning, though we're far from talking blind buy here ;). Strictly Toobin' a few tracks for the time being. Given my record, though, I probably won't like either. "Melodic" anything hasn't ever been my cup of tea, even if Desultory's Into Eternity hits pretty close to the mark.

@J_S: Hasn't that ever happened to you, where in the dream state you identify someone or something in a specific way even if it doesn't look anything like its real self? Like where you have a dream experience and you know you're in "your house" even though it doesn't resemble your actual home? But in this case, since I have no idea what you actually look like, I guess my brain produced its best guess. Sorry

You know, speaking of Desultory...

Imperial Crystalline Entombment - Apocalyptic Blizzard Regime (1:04) = Desultory - Twisted Emotions (2:54)
Am I the only one that noticed that?

At the Gates is tolerable. Wintersun is terrible.....Manilla Road is -is dragged away from keyboard by goons-.......AMAZING. SO GOOD.

"Tolerable" describes neither their first nor their last album appropriately. Those inbetween are rather unimportant when talking about this band.

Maybe it's the weather, but I've been nerding the fuck out to Blind Guardian for weeks now! I can now concede an argument I never thought I would: Blind Guardian > Iced Earth. I'm really looking forward to checking out how the remixes of their discography will sound.

Dude I had the exact same dream only he called me stupid rather than a fag.

Yeah, I listened to the opener of W.F.O. and that one was better than the one you linked, but I like that, too. I might have to go get myself some Overkill stuff.

At first I thought it was an oldschool metalhead dad who "trained" his son to talk about metal, to gain mileage on the interweb...but the kid seems legit =/

Anyway, good on the kid for his reviews and his taste.

Most of that nine album streak is pretty shit, but they did crap out some good songs during that time.

Just... ya know, not many.

Inadvertently created a dungeon synth logo for myself the other day. Awesome. Now all I need is some dungeon synth to go along with that.

This is very good, Atonement has huge potential. I'm seeing them tonight with Adversarial and another local band called Phobocosm (with an ex member of Neuraxis and Towards Darkness' guitarist)

Couldn't sit through even one track of Wintersun, nor two of At the Gates. :( It's hard out there for an elitist. See me cry my tears of ice.

Kinda amusing how the "Randum" thread is once again becoming a metal discussion.

So, how's the weather where you guys are? Here, we got 2 days of Autumn in early October, then snow. Then a little more Autumn, then more snow.

It was quite odd going out for a smoke and seeing a layer of shriveled up and dead leaves on top of a layer of snow.

Some cool stuff in there but you did put Noism in there, which kinda sucks. :P But there was lots of good in there, so it balanced out.

Hey guys, have any of you listened to Seventh Void? You see, they're the band that Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly formed after Type O Negative's demise, and their debut, Heaven is Gone, is pretty cool. It's got more of a stoner vibe than most of TON's material, and if I had to compare it with anything, I'd say they sound like a less emotional Alice in Chains with somewhat Chris Cornell-esque vocals (Kenny does a great job behind the mic, by the way), and tiny bits of Type O's mystique sprinkled around. Not the most original album ever, but it's good fun and a nice listen.

I listened to them a little bit when I heard about them - In theory they're enjoyable, but I just got a fairly strong "You're not Type O Negative. be gone!" feeling, unfortunately.

Maybe I'll find them to be an acquired taste.

Funny you mention that, as Kenny and company surely don't try to be a Peterless Type O Negative with Seventh Void. They have their own sound, even if, as I already mentioned, some of Type O's vibes creep in occasionally.

I absolutely admire them for not trying to do so, but it's still a bit of a change of pace to think of them outside of that frame, if you know what I mean?

I just went to see Nightwish with the kids. The new movie was attached to the gig.

I am not a fan of the band, really, but holy FUCK Floor improves the band by orders of magnitude. They actually sounded like a metal band again. The best vocalist they've ever had, no question about it. She's really got a good set of ...lungs.

The movie was a bit weird and quite surreal, and I don't really know what to think about it. I guess Tim Burton is rolling in his grave. Also, I think I kinda know one of the guys who wrote the script...
