Correct, it isn't the best alternative. It is also wrong.

Those all need to be consolidated into a single entry per-constellation of releases, with the additional labels/cat#s mentioned in the notes. Warned the user.

A couple questions!

1. What if a split is released digitally with versions where the bands are in different orders? Do we add this as a different version?
Example:
https://atelblackmetal.bandcamp.com/alb ... -in-terram
https://natanas.bandcamp.com/album/adol ... y-darkness

2. What if a release is released digitally with the same name and art as a later physical release but less tracks and no indication of it having more tracks? Do we add this at all? And if so, does it go under the same release as the physical one?
Example:
http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Ks ... ros/562411
A digital version with only three tracks was released back in January. The bandcamp page was taken down but I saved it.

http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/So ... ood/434874
It's the exact same track listing as the No Colours version but it's a separate entry and listed as a 'compilation'. Wouldn't both be listed as compilations? Or full-lengths?

I would file a report but wanted to get some insight before I screw something up.

The new SepticFlesh compilation/reissue (https://www.discogs.com/Septic-Flesh-Te ... se/8001497)
Will this fall under a new album/entity? It is a combo of Temple of the Lost Race/Forgotten Path and it is named as such.
Is it another version of either of those?
Thanks

Separate entry as far as I can see. Otherwise we'd have to add two identical versions (one for each album) as we don't have a way to link to multiple parent entries yet.

Thank you, I made one for the digipak and one for the normal one (I do not have all info for the normal one but it is referred to at https://www.facebook.com/floga.records/ ... =3&theater)
I will find a scanner to make a decent scan of the front.
http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Se ... ath/574220
can someone maybe check if I did something wrong?
Thank you

Replying to antioch from the other thread:

Quote:
Who said they aren't? Anyway, in this case - and that's not because Discogs says so - the boxset warrants a new entry.

I agree the boxset warrants a new entry but I'm saying the records inside could very well be from the first pressing and that could be throwing off the limitation numbers. And with adding misinformation being a bannable offense I usally play it safe with dubious internet 'facts'. Hence, me deleting the limitation number.

Got it. I misread what you'd written there, mate. I'll send the label an e-mail.

EDIT: He said there were two boxset versions as well as represses. He'll get back to me in a couple of days with more details.

The additional notes on this one denote three identical runs/pressings of the tape. Should these runs be posted as their own versions, or is compiling them all into one main version acceptable.

" The tape was released in 3 runs of 66 copies, each run with an added letter. The first run was given the letter H, the second an E, and the third an L."

Is this referring to the cat ID? If so, that's a big enough difference along with what is assumed to be three different release dates to warrant 3 separate versions here.

Look at this one, the bandcamp/digital listing looks like an entirely different release than the M-A listing (different release date and artwork at least--unless there is truly an altogether different "bandcamp" version as opposed to another extant digital version). Anybody knows anything?

Looks like the band changed details before it became available. It was originally added months ago, and it's pretty common for bands to mess with Bandcamp upload specifics. Needs to be updated.

Deleted all of the duplicate versions he added, closed all of the other reports and asked him to simply comment there.

That isn't how things work. Bands can't just add their own "correct" album versions and then have that replace the original.

Does a tracklist and title translation warrant different version addition with zero sleeve front changes?
Case in point

Putting this here.

Many of the newly formed bands, of course, especially in the last year with the addition of the digital format on M.A., publish indipendently their demos, singles, eps and so on.. (and maybe they re-release under a label, but the original independent one should remain first)

And of course, there are thousands of albums with NO catalog ID.
If it's possible, why not take away that obviously empty part?

You see, half of the releases are like this:

Type: Single
Release date: July 23rd, 2016
Catalog ID: N/A
Version desc.: Bandcamp
Label: Independent
Format: Digital
Reviews: None yet

N/A exists for a reason, it covers all of the possibilities instead of outright saying "no cat ID."

The problem with allowing an option for albums with no ID (instead of simply not knowing it) is that regular users will completely misunderstand it, and it will result in a TON of theoretically incorrect entries. We had the same problem with people misconstruing "single-sided" and "Program repeats on both sides".

I think I just made a mistake: The Band "Dragged" brought out a tape of "We Summon" in August, so I wanted to add it to the "other versions". Song one and two are on side A - 3-5 on side B (3 is btw an instrumental). But somehow I couldn't add any songs to side B, it was still added on side A and now they are marked with an * as "bonus tracks"? So I fucked it up basically and I would like to ask one of the more firm users to fix it, because somehow I can't. Sorry. =(

You click and drag "Side B" up to where the side changes over in the tracklist. You probably marked all of side B as bonus in a futile attempt to find that option.

I know I'm not in the right thread, but I don't want to start a new one for this.

When viewing the "other versions" tab, is it at all feasible to have the labels hyperlinked internally? That'd be very convenient.

How to change the order of the versions so that the original 2016 release date is the year shown in the discography?

You sure it was available for download? The Bandcamp release is only streaming.

Shit. Didn't realize that. Quite unusual for Bandcamp to not at least have a "name your price" download, except for upcoming releases. Delete it whoever can.

However, it'd be good to have the answer to the question for the future.

Only knights and mods can change the order of the versions.

Flagged it for removal. ^ As for your question, simply report such instances, Dembo. I don't think you can execute the edit at your rank.

We can't manually change the order, but there's a button (only for mods? for mods and Knights? I'm terrible with rank privileges) that allows us to turn a child version into the parent, thus listing it first.

Probably the first time I've added a video child entry. So... I used "jewel case" to distinguish between these two versions, since jewel case isn't standard for DVDs. Same tracklist and cat number obviously, but different barcode and packaging.

These versions, all of which are marked as Feb. 2, 2010, where part of one collaborative release between 3 labels on CD, but djurassic has added a new version by each label.

Could you update the parent entry, mediocridad? And flag the other two versions for deletion.
Strange, though, cuz djurassic knows this stuff.

Is there any way to get a locked discography unlocked? I realize that's a moderator's discretion thing, and the answer is probably no, but I thought I'd ask. Helloween had a bunch of re-releases in the last two years that I'd like to add but their discography is locked. I've made a report for one of them but it's been sitting untouched for a week or so now.

I guess there were only three of them in the Noise Records rerelease campaign so far, but I got them all. Thank you.

If there are/were digital versions of certain albums but the actual date when they were made available for download is unknown (including the year), how is one supposed to deal with such situations? Flag a report?

Yes. Unknown, however, doesn't seem to be an option for me with my current rank.

If I remember correctly, unknown isn't a option itself for release dates, it is just what appears if you remove/don't add the release date for an album.

You are right. It's just not entering the release year is not allowed for below veteran users, it seems.

Report them and someone will remove the year. I'm guessing that this is about the other versions you added recently?
