Basically i've been on this quest to find brutal sounding bands without the (too) brutal sounding vocals. I can do some death metal vocals, but I prefer something with more power. Or something inbetween power and death. I love bands like Nevermore, Communic, Control Denied. I also like the music of bands like Meshuggah, Gojira, Opeth... So I guess what i'm trying to say is: Can anyone refer me to some awesome brutal bands with wicked groove, progressive, some thrash, jazz fusionish...but without the full on Napalm Death, Isahn, Meshuggah vocals. (Just to clarify, I'm not hatin on any of these bands. I'm just trying to pinpoint my favorite styles and find them perfect bands for me.)

Death. They're absolutely what you just described.

And now for something way less obvious. :p

Be sure to check Adam Agius' earlier band as well, but go backwards from Tripsis so it makes more sense in your ears. Also try Obliveon, first two albums are killer.

For the record I know about Death. I found Control Denied because of Death. I'm looking for something around the vein of Control Denied; that's why I mentioned them and not Death. I do like Death, but that's not quite what i'm after right now. I've been there done that, ya know? I checked out some Atheist. Not too bad, but i'm looking for a bit less death in the vocals. I realize that my search is pretty nitpicky, but one can hope. Keep the recommendations coming, please.

If you want stuff in the vein of Control Denied you can go through the power/prog scene, there's a lot to discover. Bands like Conception for something more old school, or Anubis Gate for something more modern. Also check out Pharaoh if you haven't.

Carcariass maybe? They are tech death but are also pretty melodic.

Check out Desultor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLo9G7VKHPM. They are pretty heavy, super groovy, but generally use poweresque vocals over growls etc.

I checked out a few of the bands ya'll recommended. I like Desultor and Cynic, though i've heard some Cynic before. This, however, made me check out more than I had heard previously, and I like them. Also I've heard Anubis Gate, androdion. I actually own a few of their albums..so needless to say, me likey. I still have to check out the other ones you referred me to. I haven't had the chance just yet. I did check out Sadist and Carcariass though. Not quite what I was looking for, but i'll most likely listen to more of them to get a better feel before placing judgement. Keep the bands coming, guys. I can't ever get enough music. What a curse, eh?

All good stuff in this post. If you liked Desultor you can always try some modern power/thrash as well, with stuff like Charred Walls of the Damned or Savage Messiah. Take those with a pinch of salt though. :)

You should also try some Watchtower! Be prepared for old school production though. :p

Mithras perhaps? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDWdTcgMCSg Pretty much THE band for me to listen to when I want to listen to something fast and crushing, but aren't in the mood for Dying Fetus esque brutality.

Since you said you also like stuff inbetween power and death, how about Grailknights or Crimson Shadows? Both are power/melodic death metal. Grailknights may be a little cheesy but they are quite good. Crimson Shadows is basically a shred and double bass fest.

Maybe Shatter Messiah and newer Satan's Host. If you like Nevermore, then you might like Shatter Messiah.

So, guys, i've been able to check out a few of these bands suggested. I really like Savage Messiah and Shatter Messiah. As for Charred Walls of the Damned, I already own both their albums. Thanks though ;) . I had also heard of Watchtower before, but I still need to check out more of them. I listened to a little bit, and like you said, the production quality was quite noticable. And Grailknights i'm not too sure on. I'll listen to more, but it didn't seem to be exactly what i'm lookin for. As well with Crimson Shadows and Mithras, I need to listen to more before judging really. Thanks again, guys.

I don't know if you like grindcore or not, but Feastem uses clean yelling vocals pretty much all the time.
